  1. imo there is no educational need for Facebook.
  2. Moviemaker? simple interface with timeline drag and drop for your sounds and transitions/text
  3. i like this alot, shame it doesnt have an SATA port on it, be ideal for homebrewing NAS enclosures without all the hideous bloat which is seeping into the market imo.
  4. most xp rooms have the auto update turned off via the mms.cfg file in the flash dir. which is handy to stop pupils clicking on upgrade and borking the install. upgrades done over the holidays, and we usually make sure we are in a "major" revision rather than updating for each slight version change. Some websites flash detection can force the most up to date version to install which can be a pain, interesting that WSUS can be used so going to give that a go. in one of the feeder schools i use GPO to roll out updates can be a little iffy if certain machines arent on and the update hasnt got enough time to get to the machine.
  5. and i believe sends info to spiceworks themselves?
  6. nightly backups of user data to another server (just a simple xcopy script) other server related data is on another box. Exchange database is backed up to another server again but then duplicated on a weekly basis onto a tape (DAT72 based system symantec backup) small NAS boxs are cheap enough to buy and give piece of mind.
  7. smoothwall worth a look
  8. mechanical storage still has its place, i dont see SSD's becoming large enough for a resonable cost in the short term to completely dominate the market.
  9. I use a Coolermaster Hyper cooler on my AM3 board with a Phenom X2 550 idle temps are low 20's. comes with a retention bracket for intel sockets which supports 1366 mobo needs to come out mind. nice and quiet as well even under heavy load it is BIG
  10. a campus wide roll out of 10Gbe wouldnt get further than "pie in the sky" let alone approved as in most cases its not required (for example we had a fibre break and we used a temp wireless bridge without complaints) more a case of the core of the network needs updating and looking at various options open to use.
  11. this an option with a superscope DHCP setup to combine different ranges across sites etc. if you are using MS server. Using superscopes: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
  12. Copper between building wouldnt have used as we already have fibre between all blocks however some is a mix of old and new which would need looking at to see if it is 10GB capable. judging by some of the prices of kit i have a feeling that a gradual upgrade across the site is more likely.
  13. thanks for you responses people much appreciated.
  14. Hi all, looking for some feedback and information. school im working in is looking to upgrade the network backbone from the 1GB/100MB switching to a 10GBe Backbone, having used HP procurve for pretty much the last ten years were are going to be sticking with HP. Having had a look at HP site there are 2 versions (copper and fibre) anyone have experience of either type. any feedback on those who have made the transition would be greatly received. any issues with connecting other blocks which are linked with 1GB fibre connections etc thanks
  15. had one Windows 7 Machine which when Querying KMS licensing on the machine i was testing KMS registration on it was pointing to the W7 machine and DNS was also pointing at it as well. This W7 machine was just a standard install which we had been running some tests on at the time. I thought it was a bit odd
  16. also if you are KMSing office that will require 10 activations requests (and they have to be unique) once it hits that number the software will activate. just setup KMS where i am and the windows 7 activation prompt will actually say it has registered but there is not enough activations but will still function as it is away its attached to a license server. One thing to be aware of is that other Win 7 Machines isntalled with a KMS code can publish themselves as KMS Host's which was REALLY confusing as it doesnt stop doing this until the DNS entry is modified to reflect the correct host
  17. ours is around 500MB. from memory the database can get massive if it is logging every change in the system (including imports) so if there is a problem you can revert back to before the change. instead of this i just do a simple backup each night. i believe MLS do document this when setting the Database up
  18. is it possible to adjust how SLG displays the Attitude levels and working levels. what im after doing is getting it to say Attitude level and then the subject rather than ALTECH02 which doesnt really mean a great deal unless your familar with the data/setting of your child. thanks
  19. blown one of the channels by "over driving it"? could be worth changing the laptop just in case the sound output on that has been damage?
  20. yes i would
  21. indeed although some updates can impact on running services in unexpected ways, auto updates on a server as AngryTech suggested arent ideal
  22. on XP you can enable a "no auto restart with users logged in" in GPedit. you can set the reprompt option from here as well but under xp at least you cant do this from GPedit (using standard templates anyway)
  23. ok my count appears to be increasing just need to install it one more time to get up to the file and test the registration
  24. Do the partial license keys need to match on both the client and KMS host for the activation request to increase and in the case of office 2010 actually reach the min of 5 requests and then activate?
  25. used to have a barton 3200, iirc i thiunk i still have it kicking about. very good bit of kit and design, with a single mided focus which i think is somewhat lacking. in fairness my work rig is a Athlon 64 and still does the job
