Its different at each of the three sites, but in general each site has only ever had a router/access point installed as and when they have been needed, I have only been there a year, and inherited this awful unmanaged system.

Good morning guys, Just had a exciting meeting about improving our schools ICT infrastructurefor all three sites, however its going to take roughly a year to have everything in place. So in the mean time I have to resolve the issue that we have 32 ipads at each of the sites that when connected the wi-fi kill the wireless network! Am I correct in thinking that I would be able to say attach a wireless router to the iPad trolley and have that go with whatever class is using the iPads? I have heard of people doing this with ubiquiti hardware, how hard and expensive would a exercise like this be, and does anyone have any experience in doing so. I know it would be, but I dont want to have to take the iPads off the wi-fi, and make staff and pupils wait till our whole new system is put in place next year. Thanks in advance guys.

Good Morning Guys, I have just started working at a new school that has a Machine running NetVu Observer to a TV that is above the workstations in reception. Now I have been getting reports from the members of staff that the program is crashing up to 3 times a hour and the members of staff are needing to log back on, and in the mean time people are left standing around outside the school unable to come in. I have noticed that the version of NetVu Observer they are running is a beta version, so I was thinking it may be full of bugs and hence the constant crashing issue, has anyone else encountered this problem using NetVu Observer and how did you overcome it? Thanks.

Wow cheers for the rapid support guys. We are having a new networked Konica MFP installed during the Easter holidays, I havent been given any instructions from Konica requesting a IP to be reserved, I was just trying to plan ahead. I have emailed them asking if they require anything, but still waiting back from them. Sorry if this thread is frustrating for other users, just this a scenario, I havent encountered in my short time as a ICT Technician in a school Thanks again.

Good Morning guys, May be a simple one to you guys out there, but we all got to learn somewhere. Over the course of the Easter holidays we are going to be having a new Konica printer installed here at our school. The printer is to be networked, so am i correct in thinking that we will need to reserve a static IP for the device so that i am continuously chasing the IP address around for the device. We are running a Windows Server 2003 R2 here. If possible would someone be able to explain the process about making the reservation, or am I better waiting till the device is here so that we can setup the MAC address etc for the machine? Thanks in advance guys.

Good morning, I was wondering if people on here could help me out. I am relatively new to Windows Server 2003, and was wondering if people could advise some good reads to get myself up to speed on Windows Server 2003. IE, group policy work, Profiles, Assigning IP's that kinda thing. The school where I work have a windows server 2003 in place which is running well, but I have just got access to work on it directly (previously ran by Local Council). Also if possible very quickly could someone explain how to assign a specific IP to a device, got a couple of access points that I wanted to get installed to a couple of areas that are suffering majorly without Wi-Fi. Thank you in advance and I know this is the kind of question where knowledge is learned over time with experience, however I need to make sure I am heading in the right direction. Many thanks.

Hi everyone, we are about to go through the process of changing over to a academy, I was just wondering what implications that would have on all the current licenses we currently have in place. Once we have became will these licenses still be in place, or will i need to contact each provider and ask them to provide a new license with the academy name on instead of the school name? If anyone has gone through this process, could you please explain what was needed from you regarding this process. Many thanks, Simon

Apologies for not including all the information, they are windows 7 machines, that have basically came in, with a SHED load of un-needed samsung programmes etc.

Good Morning, I have recently just taken delivery of 63 laptops into our school and am looking for the best (open source if possible) solution to mirror one machine that has been setup. Any help is massively appriciated. Many thanks

Good Morning people, Had a teacher come to me this morning with MORE pen drive problems, basically they have been working on files this weekend then they have came to open them this morning and the files now look like this: From what I have read looks like a trojan has got a hold of it and ruined, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and been able to rescue anything from it? Cheers

The main use of the machine is that we are transferring from a school to academy so every member of staff is going to need a new card, (around 150) then whenever we have new starters coming they will need new cards, and potentially miss placed or lost cards every so often

Good Morning, I have been asked to look into purchasing a ID Card printing machine, so that I can personally just produce all of our staff ID cards for all members of staff and not have to use a outside source anymore. Could I please ask for recommendations on what machines people are using, how much they cost and maintenance charges on said machines. Many thanks, Simon

Transition from Authority provided services to All in house.
Sigo19 replied to Sigo19's topic in How do you do....it?
We are located in Sunderland, North East of England. We are a Primary School, but with quite a lot of ICT equipment. We have around 350 pupils and about 40 staff with logins. -
Good Morning, Been asked this morning to think about moving all of our Authority provided services to so that it is all in controlled in house. To give you a brief run down, I started here at my school in Easter, and the school had no IT tech but a guy coming out from the local authority to firefight once a week. I have brought the school up to a much better standard than before and been asked about the potential move, so that everything will be in my control. Currently our local authority control our server, server space, logins, if we get new machines they need to be added to their domain, they provide the internet connection and so on. This potential move is a exciting one I think as it will give me FULL control of everything rather than needing to go asking for permission for new machines to be added. I know to move away and do it all in house will be a MASSIVE task but I was wondering how many people on here have made the move themselves and what the best approach would be to go about doing it. Maybe some advice on companies you guys used to help, basically im just after as much info as possible on it. Thanks, sigo19
