default profile on LTSB out of the crate is 1.46MB as i am looking at a build atm , this is a bare install from the CD however

all the temp directories been cleared usually hidden deep in the profile

Just added the windows 10 KMS code to our 2008R2 host (with patch) and works well. using the Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10 key. As a standard windows 2012r2 doesnt do it.

have you connected as "root" ir a user which has permissions to edit the file?

interesting but not quite what i am after. there is a 3rd party utility that can do it but i dont like using those for something which should not be this much aggro...

Anyone replaced the default logon screen successfully?, Windows 7 is pretty straight forward but 10 appears to be rather different. attempted to replace img0.jpg in the windows\web folder (after changing some permissions) appears to be ignoring it :/ found some hints for changing it at the point of deployment but we do like to change the image occasionally. thanks

@AButters id agree with this. once you do the initial replication the amount of data that would need to be replicated for a small junior school isnt going to be huge

if there was a need for an app from the store we could use a none LTSB for that area if required. i think as a start point LTSB is ideal, apart from one specific app (which is more designed for tablets) nothing we use requires the Store App, if this were to change we would have to look at a none ltsb solution.

a server which is running as just a dc in a small environment can be very cheap if you wanted one alongside a more beefy machine for running everything else

we install after an image is applied due to reasons above

advancedinstaller would be my choice as you can point and click it at an already installed application to create an MSi package and or edit existing. they used to have a free version but not sure if that is still the case.

i had the same issue with CS6 the transform had the serial key but i would still need to license it using ptrk exe. i run the following on the machines after deployment. adobe_prtk.exe --tool=Serialize --leid=DesignWebSuitePremium-CS6-Win-GM --serial="serial_key" [email protected] --eulaaccept --eulasuppress

does specifying the locale make a difference at all?

you need to add the serial number to what you have as an option or point to a prov.xml file which contains it i would suggest

@Geoff this was exactly my thinking, unless of course if there is an application which can only be installed using the windows store / metro only. but from a pure desktop deployment binning some of the bloat is a good idea.

so LTSB is taking a leaf out of linux books with Long Term Support models id be leaning towards LTSB myself

drive mappings are handled via script rather then gpo preferences if that makes a difference

Zombiethread alert! @ITGURU how are you pushing the network share at the user? looking as this exact thing now, if i publish an explorer shortcut with a UNC as the opening path the files appear, but in the explorer window no mapped drives are appearing (if the user logs into the RDP server mapped drives appear) are you just publishing \\servername\sharenamepath$ in the explorer shortcut as i am doing.. am missing something in how remoteapp functions

I used the links that @AJWhite1970. also found a selection of resources on petenetlive.com which although for sccm 2007 were useful as well. I have / had it running on a test box and was impressed with some of the features, especially the software inventory (very handy for querying if packages rolled out by AD actually made it to the machine) with getting the client installed the account which your are using to install it with needs local admin rights, i had an issue where i was waiting for it to push the client out but my test machine wasnt in the correct OU which SCCM was monitoring:rolleyes: it is a beast of an application / service it does have a built in log reader (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\tools) which is will give you an idea of what it is grumbling about.

current cpu is a phenom II X4. i had a feeling that the HD6870 is still better than an APU (however an non APU FM2 might be a solution) so its likely i wouldnt really notice much difference in CPU tasks . @ICTDirect_Dave that would be pushing things a little past my budget, however that would blow my current box into the weeds and then some. and very likely that if i decide to wait i will perhaps go down this type of route.

I have a rather oldish AM3 973 2.8Ghz x4 based system (16GB RAM HD6870 SSD etc) which is use for playing a couple of blizzard titles & video & recently upgraded to 8.1 ent so i can use hyper-v on it (hence quite alot of RAM) however driver support is getting a little flakey, so thinking of changing it. budget is rather limited so was thinking along the lines of an AMD FM2+ quad core system which i assume should give me better performance? would the newer APU's be better than the HD6800 card i have installed like to have more cores than relying on hyper-threading but i imagine things have moved on quite a bit in terms of performance (be a long time since i purchased any new hardware for myself )

i expect cost is an issue or not having a large enough current workload to justify a SAN.
