  1. Hi All, I have this really weird thing happening and I can't quite figure it out. I have had a look around to see if anyone else gets this issue and can't seem to find anything on this site nor on any other forums after doing a standard google search. I have a Belkin F5D8055 N+ Wireless Adapter connected to my machine by it's docking station thing. This is connected into the back of the PC. Weirdly, when I first turn on the PC, the connection doesn't load, and it doesn't automatically connect to the preferred wireless connection. Not until windows has fully loaded, I have the desktop background that I can unplug and re-plug the USB adapter into it's cradle/dock and then it picks up the preferred wireless connection. I have reloaded the different drivers for it, have tried different ports but to no avail. So this is kind of my last hope before I give up and cry haha. If anyone has any suggestions i'll be more than happy to try them and let you know the outcome (hopefully fix it as it's starting to bug me) PC Configuration: Win 7 Prof 64-Bit. Look forward to the floods of replies haha or just a few will do. Cheers all, enough geeking for the night. Clocking out 00:53 - Over and out!
  2. I don't know why they allow FB it's the schools choice. It's a managed service they'll whine if we don't let them have access to it. They say "we're grown adults, we shouldn't be told what to and what not to have" and no they don't seem to have these issues at home just seems to be in school.
  3. didn't think about this but the people who's accounts it is aren't likely to have swearing on them.
  4. Hi mate yeah we are behind the proxy.
  5. Hi all, Now this is a really annoying and unusual one. There are 2 members of staff at the school where i'm at who are having difficulties with FB. When they're logged into thw windows under their account and go onto facebook, login to facebook under their account after 5 seconds it comes up with an error "IE cannot display the webpage". Yet when i log into my fb account under the users windows account, it allows me on, and i can browse etc and do the normal facebook stuff, and the same happens when i logon to windows under my account (admin) it works for me on facebook but not for the user. Also sometimes it'll work like they'll be able to see the initial homepage but then when they go to click on a photo or anything it just comes up with the IE error. Does anyone have any clue what to do? I have recreated profiles, deleted browsing history/passwords etc etc and cannot think what to do now?
  6. Hi Fellow Edugeekers (been a while) I am asking your expert advise as i am having an issue with this magicinfo software. I am not an expert in this software and to be honest i hate it, but i have a user who wants to be able to put sound to the magic info screens. The screens themselves have sound enabled and the magicinfo software has the desired music file in it's library, but how do you get the music to play and publish it to the screen. She also wants to use a powerpoint so i tried putting the music in over the powerpoint (on the ppt presentation) and it works in powerpoint but it wont publish as it errors, so my next step was to try to put it in over the top of a standard ppt file without the music on it, and haver it playing over the top but i can't seem to do this. Is there a simple way of getting both the video/ppt and the sound playing at the same time or is it even possible? Please let me know any help would eb appreciated. Samsung are useless and can't help really. Many thanks Ben
  7. Yeah i checked the jumpers on the back of the dvd drives and they're all set to choose or can be either or. The Bios recognises it just nothing through windows. The dell on the same hdd had win 7 ultimate installed on it before hand, but it wasn't working prop (was installed by someone previous to me) so i thought i'd re-install it. Since then i've not been able to get it to boot and as far as I know the CD/DVD drives aren't being recognised by windows and haven't been for a while. Is there not a way for me to install windows on the hdd from the dell machine on the loan machine? Regards
  8. The donor pc is a windows xp - hp pavilion a1000. I plugged the hdd from the other machine into this computer and installed win 7 on it no worries. It boots and loads fine, yet as i said when i go to install it back into the other machine it just fails. No errors no bsod, just loops. Unfort I don't have my mem stick with me which is big enough to carry win 7 installation on it. I shall try the sysprepping idea (not used it so relatively new to it) and see if that helps! Thanks. Ben
  9. Hi fellow geekers (been a while) I am really starting to get frustrated with this and cannot figure out why. I have this pc which doesn't recognise the DVD drives within windows but recognises them being in the bios and when trying to boot it wont boot to them either. (thats one issue) So to get around this i had another computer which i plugged the HDD in and installed win 7 32-bit and this ran fine and works fine on the test machine, yet when i plug it into the other machine and try to boot to it, it fails to boot and does a boot loop? This is really confusing me... any ideas anyone? The computer is a dell dimension 5000 it's not designed to have win 7 on it, but it has ran with windows 7 on it and has been fine, now i've come to do a new install it doesn't work? Any help would be great. Ben
  10. Hi Fellow EduGeekers Hmm this may be a bit of an easy question but for some reason i can't remember how it's done nor can i see anywhere on the internet where i can gain this information from. I don't want to use an internet based password generator, i wan't to be able to run a scirpt which will generate me some passwords, say like 100 passwords and save it into a text file. I want the password sequence to be: Letter, number, letter, number, 3 lettered word For Example: a4z6map Is there a script which can be run to generate these? Cause i need this amount as i am on a team of 4 different people and we all use these passwords and sometimes use the same one which isn't good. If anyone can help that'd be great =]
  11. I've got an old '89 GSXF 600. Absolute wagon of a bike. It is a little bit on the heavy side as i only weigh about 10.5 stone and about 6ft but it's not too bad. IT handles nicely especially as it's got new forks and straight barks on there now =]. IF i was going to get another bike now, i think i'd go for a BMW which one i don't know. But i do like the K1200 touring bikes and also like the G series off road/enduro type bikes. For 3000 queen heads you can get a pretty tidy bike. But the ER-6 is definately a good choice. They're light, easy to handle. As Avalon said above, they don't hang around when you give it some, they'll give you in return what you ask for. In the meantime i'll stick with my streetfightered GSXF =] Good to know fellow edugeekers have motorbikes as well! Sadly i can't ride mine though due to loosing it through speeding multiple times =[ 9 points in the first 2 years doesn't go down well with the DVLA =[
  12. In my old place we used to name them after a few old cars and stuff. We had : Escort Cortina Jag And a random one wich i loved THOR It was like the main file server that every stored there data on and was like a massive giant spec of a server so i decided to name it Thor =]
  13. Well actually the stick i have in there originally has 16 chip's on it, and the new module has 18 chips on it. It's got one extra in the middle on both sides. I have ran MEM check and it is still running but all i can see it RED. The Sticks appear to have errors all over them. Even the old RAM appears to be a little messed up. I'll run the mem check on the old stick of RAM on it's own and the new stick of RAM on it's own to check but it appears as i've got a duff memory module! GRRRRRRR
  14. To access the bios, i had to press ESC. Then ctrl + f1...? What a bloody weird combination.
  15. Oh yes so i did... sorry haha! Not with it... blame it on being Friday. One problem is i can't actually run MEMtest on it at the moment, because i can't access the boot menu to change the boot sequence because i can't access the BIOS? F2 and or Del doesn't work. Nor does F8 or any of the other silly or weird commands some boards like to use?
  16. No the RAM is exactly the same (not the same make) but it's same frequency etc. PC2700, DDR 333MZ.
  17. But i'm guessing, if the motherboard can only deal with 1GB if i'm trying to input 1 GB stick along with the 512 stick in there already it's going to have a whine isn't it?
  18. Yeah tried that initially as i thought it's an old piece of kit maybe the slot has become blocked or it's just not being seen by the mobo but no the original memory module works fine in there.
  19. Hmm i have just done a check on the computer which it's being installed into. It's pretty old computer but it reckons or says the maximum memory that the mobo can deal with is 1GB? Presario S5500UK Memory - Upgrade Compaq S5500UK Presario Computer Memory Also i can't for some unknown reason access the BIOS? F2/Del/F8 doesn't work?
  20. Yeah the stick works in another computer?
  21. No, it doesn't. Does the same thing as i said. If i have the new stick of RAM and boot in safe mode it'll work but if i try to boot normally after a few seconds it just restarts?
  22. Good morning fellow geeks...! :mad:I am starting to get a little miffed about this so before the computer goes out the window i thought i'd ask some fellow geeks who are more superior than I. I have bought this new stick of RAM. 1GB Pc2700 184PIN stick of RAM. I have plonked it into the computer along with the measly 512mb stick it had in there already of the same spec. When i turn the computer on, it registers the new RAM and says i have 1.5gb of RAM installed. So it goes through the process of loading windows etc etc, then when it comes to actually loading the desktop it just doesn't load. IT occasionally comes up with the desktop but then it just turns off after about 5 seconds and then does the whole process all over again. If i start the computer in SAFE mode the computer works fine. But if i try and do it in Last known good configuration then it does the same thing and doesn't bl***y work. IF i take out the new stick of RAM and keep the original old stick in there it works fine. So what is the problem? Does it mean that the stick of RAM is faulty or not? Cause i can see the RAM and it registers with the MOBO and BIOS to say that there is a new stick of RAM installed. So any help would be good? Thanks fellow edugeekers Ben
  23. Right, Thanks to all those people who helped me. This morning i just had a brain wave and noticed that my Nvidia Control Panel had an adjust option, a bit like you get on monitors by pressing the buttons underneath you can change the vertical and horizontal positioning of the screen. So she's all good now, only problem is i'll probably have to keep changing it when i or if i change back to DVI. Thanks again fellow edugeekers =]
  24. Hmm well it's a Toshiba 40XV551D?
  25. Yeah i guess so, it did pick up a few things in windows xp. It had a lot of digitally assigned printers and printer options. But none of them were ever much use, it was all old kit that has long been dead and buried.
