ok fair enough so I could just not allowed too, thanks guys. What about the OEM licenses ? they actually say 7 Pro OA - which at the moment these keys are wasted because that OS is not on the box.... Could I use that Key on a VM or does it live and die with the box it's attached too ?

I've had Samba4 for a while, it's works just like it does on Windows for AD, GPO's wok fine. You have to administer Samba4 via your local machine with Admin tools.

Technically I'm not using a Windows server if I do it this way, It'll be a Linux Desktop, standard user, remote desktop into win 7. Would it work ?

Hi all, I have an action pack license, I'm wanting to move all my machines to Linux and we have a mixture of Linux and Windows guys here. However, I was wondering whether I could spin up a VM with Windows 7 using my Action Pack license for the guys who are using Linux but need/want to use MS office. I want to thin client all of my machines, it'd be a Linux operating system. Some of the office staff will not use and like Linux so I want to have a remote desktop to A win 7 image with Office installed. Would this be possible and legal ?

We have moved over to a fully 100% oVirt infrastructure running on Fedora, We have the servers connected via Juniper switches to Netgear 6TB SAN, to add the Netgear to oVirt is easy, you just add it as a storage/ISO domain and away you go. I'm loving oVirt, more so than any other Virtualization software I've come across. I can safely say goodbye to VMWare and Xen. You can add VM's and create the Hard Disks on the external storage or on the domain in which you created and that domain could be on another server / storage.

I'm trying to mount NFS shares under Windows 7..... Everywhere I'm reading you cannot mount an NFS share under Win 7 Pro. I'm running Windows 7 Pro (unfortunately for me). So far I can see that Ultimate and Enterprise will only do it. So is this true.... or Is there a way I can do this under Pro ??? Ta in Advance everyone! Chris.

ok try 8.8.8.8 as your DNS. And check your routers DNS on your internet connection side.

Looks like you've got DHCP on, but none of your LAN or WIFE interfaces have an Ip Address - set one statically on your interface which your PC is connected, and assign one on your PC if DHCP doesnt give you one.

Do the PC's get an IP ? If not could ou try and set one static see if you get a connection that way... which port on the router have you got your PC's plugged into ?

Hey guys, Im actually looking at pulling down my Novell server with iFolder on it as its getting buggy now with Windows clients not being able to connect by using the client. Ideally, I'd like to keep all of my servers on the same Linux family - Redhat. Most of my servers are either Fedora or CentOS. Will nofolder run under CentOS ??? Thanks - hope to hear from you soon. If I'm honest I'd rather stick with iFolder simply because I come from a Novell background and have worked with Novell for many years. Even networks that I've migrated off of Netware I have managed to make them stick to Novell iFolder. NoFolder looks good, but I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for, what I'm after is something like Alfresco. Document Management | Open Source Collaboration Software | Alfresco

not a Smoothie user here but have implemented it in our PFSense/Juniper based network... We use PacketFence PacketFence: Open Source NAC (Network Access Control) Works a charm!

We have x2 EX 2200 with 48 ports on each serving a network with 100 nodes. Yes the Layer 3 switch will do the vlan routing for you, thats how we have it at a remote site. VC is upto 10 Juniper EX4500 switches, its basically an extra cable you buy with the switches. Depending on sites, usually anything with 200 or less nodes we use EX2200 series switches. So for 80 users, 2 EX2200's (POE if needed) will be perfect.

Hi folks, Im wondering if someone can point me in the right direction, I've been trying to set something up regarding LDAP/Samba 4 for the past week and nothing seems to work. What I'm trying to achieve is build another authentication method for servers in the Data Center, I already have an existing AD setup for the main offices, but I want this to be separate from the Data Center. I went down the OpenLDAP route on CentOS 6.3 using PHPLdapAdmin and it seemed to work but non of my servers would join to the directory, I used the authentication setup on Centos and configured the LDAP server settings but still couldn't use an LDAP account to login. I need to keep the LDAP & AD separate as I dont want users in the AD to be able to login to servers, and vice versa. All my servers are either CentOS or Fedora 18. I've even been trying Samba 4 and used Samba_Internal for DNS on the Samba 4 server, I can get CentOS nslookup successfully with the right hostnames etc but no joy when joining CentOS to the Samba 4 domain. has anyone got CentOS to join an LDAP domain ?

Well if you want VC, go Juniper. I've come across alot of switch configs in my time and use to run a network with over 100 Nortel switches in a college, but by far and away the EX series switches are the best Ive come across and are pretty cheap aswell. They are easy to configure via Web Config or CLI, and are built like brick houses!!! We have the EX 4200's. ATM here we arnt using VC admittedly because there's no need but we do elsewhere. If your using VLANs and want imaging, if DHCP is on another server just use the next-server option, it'll work and your clients (even on a different IP Range) should get an address providing your firewalling is setup correctly. I have VLANS setup as below. VLAN 50 - Servers VLAN 80 - Clients VLAN 99 - Guests VLAN 101 - Phones / VOIP VLAN 102 - WIFI VLAN 166 - LAB Network VLAN 77 - Environmental My imaging servers (Fog, ZEN, WDS) are all on the servers VLAN, but in my pfsense router I have the next-server option set to the IP of my imaging server, all of my clients when I reboot and boot to Network get the correct range and start imaging, I can even boot into Linux or GParted if need be using PXE. All of our network security is on the servers VLAN also, Firewalling, Proxying, AV etc and everything on the other VLANS goes through fine. So if IP Helper shouldn't make a difference in this case.

Switch Failure ? Virtual Chassis ? VERY rare!!! Its rare you'd get a switch failure on VC, We use Juniper kit all over the UK now and have yet to see a drop out or a failure, we use EX series Switches in VC. If it was to happen the switches would fail over on the next switch so if we had Switch A,B,C,D and D or C failed, all the traffic would fail over to A or B, providing you have your links connected up correctly and configurations are correct of course, with no latency. Even if a switch member within a Virtual Chassis configuration fails, the Virtual Chassis will continue to operate.
