Proxy Settings ? Is the IP Address the right one for your network ?

Thats the error I'm getting, I do like the program and have tried to do everything I can to fix it. It appears when I click any of the machine groups on the left hand side.

I use that to deploy VNC but if I try to do anything else with it it throws errors at me and closes.

Does anyone know of a Console whereby I can search a machine name and bring up a VNC Console ?? I used to have a Novell network where I used to work, and if I got a call that needed remote support it was fine because the member of staff would tell me which building they were in, department, and which room from there I could pinpoint which machine he/she was at. It was just handy, I could even search Username and find the machine they were logged into all in the same console then just hit the VNC button and that was it we were in. I have yet find anything like this for Windows, admittedly this was all done in Novells ConsoleOne, Just wondered if anyone knew of anything similar for Windows. TIA.

Yeah I've had issues with Sophos, It was eating resources to the point where if you did a speedtest on a machine that was on a gig connection you'd get 6 meg. That was with the Internet Security running.

I've got an MSI I roll out, and then I have a group policy to create the short-cuts on the start menu, as we have Re-directed menu's. Have done the same thing for the Desktop Icons.

Rolled out a new version of Google Chrome today as ours was way out dated, so I actually had a new MSI of chrome so I thought I'll remove Chrome and just roll out the new one via GPO. Hardly anyone noticed as the majority here use IE (UUrrrgghhhhh) but some weird things happened, hyperlinks stopped working to the point of if someone got an email and it had a link in it... It would say disabled by your Administrator. Another one was, One of our sales guys was working away in Excel and he put an email address in the spreadsheet as a clickable link, nothing wrong with that. It had the customers name and address etc so it was easy to find the customer fair do's. Funny thing was though, again if you clicked the link a box popped up saying something along the lines of "this action has been disabled by your Administrator", I trawled through Group Policy and could find nothing. The only thing that had changed was chrome. I manually installed Chrome back on that machine and viola all the links work again. How Bizarre!! One to watch for folks - If you use Chrome that is.

Unplug everything.... And I mean everything, plug in each device one by one, and test connections so plug in your server and plug in say 10 machines and see if you get any drop outs, if you do unplug everything until you can nail it down to a device, one device on a flat network can break everything. Reboot your switch also before you plug anything back in. If you do get drops it may indicate a certain device or cable. If you still get drop outs and you've done this with every device they I would say it's your infrastructure cabling rather than a config problem. Also is spanning-tree enabled on your switch ? and are you using VLANs ?

Are you using VLANS ? You could separate all of your servers, pc's, phones into VLANs and see if that improves, segregate your broadcast domains because if your not using VLANs your entire switch is a broadcast domain and it could be slowing your network. Especially if you have a broadcast storm. Sounds to me actually like you *might* have a switch loop somewhere, watch out for the port LED's on your switch flashing really fast or more than usual, especially if they all do it at the same time. I believe (I could be wrong) if you go to get licensing now for 2008 you will get 2012 keys anyway that will downgrade so you could go to 2012. 2008R2 is going to be long supported yet anyway, Personally I'd stick with 2012 as I haven't tested 2012.

It might be that you have a dodgy cable somewhere or an iffy nic, however I noticed network transfers here at my place to be slow - but nothing else is. So what I did was downloaded Supercopier (Official website) and this seems to be a lot faster than the standard file copy in Windows, I think Windows tries to copy the whole folder at once whereas Supercopier does it in incremental files and it's a bit faster. I think the slowness issue here is the cabling we have in the walls, even though it's CAT6 we have alot of long runs from the main switch to the wall sockets, and we also have quite a busy network at times.

It'll take them so long to find the IP's because no doubt in the routing table there will be hundreds of thousands of IP's and thats not there own thats everyone else's too from BGP peers. It'll probs be a Juniper MX series router too so thats a lot of IP's it can hold in it's tables, so tracing an IP isnt as easy as you think it would be if your trailing hundreds of thousands of IP's. Once they find a 'suspect' IP they need to find the source, it may not be an IP directly connected to them it could be from one of the upstream providers/peers, this means they need to contact those peers to resolve it at there end and block it on there firewalls / routers locally. It's a painful process.

I use Skeep Console, just click deploy, type in a machine name and viola you have VNC deployed to that machine. In the settings menu is where you setup your password etc. I've literally just done this on 200+ machines!

Looks like it's made by Symantec so could be expensive, at least MDT you can use for free.

I think they need better DOS mitigation, depending on what type of DOS attack it is usually you get back up and running in a day, if need be pull the plug / reboot everything and find the source.

Or you could setup pfsense with squid and dansguardian port over your configs and then setup OpenVPN, you can have as many VPN's on there as the system will cope with. You get a nice Web GUI that way.
