I've done a similar thing using a DMX recorder hidden in a rack, the users don't need to touch this, then a simple little controller that a 2 year old could operate. Worked quite well, used a decent lighting desk to program the lights how then record the lighting state on the DMX recorder. Once done remove the decent lighting desk and connect the basic one for playback purposes. With 1 fader the user could set the moving lights doing their things, LEDs changing colour etc, on another fader could have something totally different. I used an Elation DR512 DMX recorder and one of these little controllers: Stairville DDC-6 DMX Controller - Thomann UK

I'll have to check ours and try another Kanex adapter. They're not cheap adapters!!

I have a work provided phone. Evenings and weekends I put it on silent and ignore it, I'm not paid to be on call. It is useful to be able to check emails in the morning before coming in to work, delete the rubbish and be aware of what needs doing first thing. The number is on the staff phone list - currently it's not abused and I hope it will stay that way!

We've got some flickering on the projectors (Epson) using Apple TVs with the Kanex VGA adapters, I put it down to our setup - we're using a Lindy VGA/audio switcher to switch between the PC and Apple TV (with Kanex adapter).

We access ours externally via remote.school.sch.uk, there's an A record on the domain name to point that to an external IP. Our Smoothwall box forwards requests to that external IP to one of the two terminal servers.

We were looking at the Magenta HD-One HDMI/cat5e kit. It's not the cheapest but it works over a single piece of cat5e. It also carries RS232 which is a bonus! HD-One LX | Magenta Research

I installed Server 2008 R2 on an ML350 G4 (similar era I think). I used the latest version of the HP SmartStart CD with support for the ML350 from the HP site. It installed all the relevant drivers and configured the RAID fine.

When I had a CC4 network and a Vanilla admin network with SIMS on there was a trust between the domains to allow SIMS to run. No extra drive mappings were needed on the CC4 machines to allow it to run.

Same as the others. Boarding school here... easier to operate as a normal day than sort out activities etc for the boarders.

Normal school day here also. I'll get a day off in lieu though.

Hi all I've got a couple of Microsoft Roundtable video conferencing phones for sale. They were designed for Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 but I believe they work with Lync and possibly some other systems? They're in a very good condition, still boxed, only used once or twice. I linked to a 6x RJ45 faceplate on eBay in my post for £10.

My previous school had a double gang cat5 faceplate with 6 modules in it. This was the first and the last socket like that I've seen!! Have you asked Stone Computers for a quote for their USFF model? Both their SFF and USFF desktops can be mounted behind a monitor and have a 5 year on site warranty as standard which makes their prices even more attractive!

We use basic DNS round-robin for our 2003 terminal servers, it's basic but it works. I had a look at using Session Directory but we couldn't as one of our terminal servers is running 2003 Standard. I'm guessing you are using Enterprise as you've got 16GB of RAM in the server?

£600 sounds pretty reasonable. We paid more than 3 times that for ours to be installed by RM.

We are using the PaperCut TCP/IP port and it doesn't have any SNMP settings.

Hi all Does anybody know of a way to disable the printing balloon notifications that you get when a document is sent to print? We can't disable the balloon notifications as we need them for PaperCut notifications! http://i.techrepublic.com.com/blogs/141x.jpg I've found various discussions online about how to disable them locally on a computer but no method of doing it on the print server.
