I used a rackmount Synology NAS as my primary storage for VMs at a budget constrained school. It did very well for what it cost. Never had any issues with it.

It might just be permissions. You can view permissions at the bottom of the info window. Click the folder to highlight, then command and I.

I had this with Hyper-V when testing EFI bootloaders. In the end I had to use VMWare Workstation for the client, which worked perfectly first time. It was even booting to WDS which was hosted on a Hyper-V server. Mental.

They changed it slightly last year I believe so that you have to request them. If you ring support on 0800 9179016, option 4 then 1 I believe and ask them to add them in for you they usually do it there and then.

Nope, ended up just using LDAP in the end. It's a small number of users that are going to use it anyway so I decided that it wasn't worth the headache for integrated authentication.

Hi all, Currently having a play with smoothwall express. Got advproxy installed and its working great with the URL filter, SARG etc. I got LDAP working, but for this you must authenticate every session. I've been trying to get Windows authentication working along with Windows integrated authentication. I've the domain formatted as domain.local PDC as dc1.domain.local which using the IP tools is resolved and pings When prompted to authenticate i've tried: domain\user user@domain [email protected] So far none work, and when using integrated authentication is will take a while to process then give an access denied page. Any ideas? Is there anything I need to do within AD for this to work, because i'd expect it to allow me to input a username in the settings but there is nowhere for this. Thanks

Good point. That might be an idea. I checked for quality options, nothing obvious within the settings.

We have to use loopback because some rooms have 2 printers, and we have to set a default. Computer settings dont have a shared print option to update the default. http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Media/0000492/00006.png So we use a loopback, and do the default update in the user section of the same policy.

Yeh, i'd guessed that it was the nature of the job, but I wondered if it was down to the driver or the printer itself. The old printer was never that slow. I just wondered if the size of the job was excessive for what was actually being printed. I will investigate some more, but its a little disappointing that we've gone from a quick printer that was 10 years older that was physically broken, to a new printer that is awfully slow to process print jobs.

I use a print server. Deploy with Print Management console, per user and per machine sometimes. Then I use a GPO at the container level of the machines where it needs to be default. Set the default printer through computer preferences through the shared option, then use group policy loopback within the user settings of the same GPO. So then it deploys the printer via Printer Connections in windows settings to the relevant people or computers, then sets defaults using loopback set to merge. Works seamlessly here with papercut. Just the actual local printers that we dont bother monitoring, although again is easy to install the software.

Hi all, When sending pictures of A4 size, or powerpoint slides, the job is rendering over 100mb up to 300mb in size and taking about 4-5 minutes to print each page. Is this about a right size for the print job? The printer in question is a Kyocera FS-C5150DN. Drivers are from their website and seem to work fine apart from big colour jobs. It takes a pause between each page too, rather than shipping the whole thing through at once like usual. It has an advertised 21ppm which isnt the case at the minute. Is it a driver issue, is it not compressing the job properly? I'm out of ideas now. I've contacted their support, but though i'd ask here in the meantime. One job was so big the other day it caused a memory overflow and just printed half the job. Strange to say the least, never had this issue before with any other printers. Thanks

Hi all, Got some iPads on sight and using a Mac with Apple Configurator to configure some profiles, apps, and supervise them. They're then enrolled in Profile Manager with OS X Server for some extra settings and profiles to manage wirelessly. We've come up a bit stuck. When you want to transfer photos and videos the device appears empty. iTunes reports that it can not talk to a supervised device, and other 3rd party tools like iTools also don't work. I've though about dropbox for staff, but this is only viable for photos really, not videos and on class sets of devices where pupils use them, this isnt going to work. They cant each have a dropbox account and remember to sign in and out. Anyone got any ideas or advice? Thanks

Got a new one now, set up some file paths, one is just %userdir% and I get an access denied error. Logged on as "auser" lets call him I got an: Access to the path '\\hhs-sr-fs\staffhome\Work\auser' is denied. auser has the relevant permissions to access the file within windows, what should I look at next?

YAY! Sorted. After a bit more googling, it turns out despite the error message, what you actually need to do is give IIS_IUSRS write permissions to c:\windows\temp Strange error, that doesnt help at all. Thanks for your help so far.
