  1. Checked there too. Relevent option was Wake-up capabilities, with the choice of magic packet, pattern match or both. I've tried all 3. None work. Might be worth mentioned, while they were still XP CC3 they booted fine with magic packet. As soon as XP came off, they dont work. Also another room with identical machines has PCI-E network cards, wake on PCI is enabled, magic packeting the MACs of the PCI-E cards also dont work.
  2. Do drivers have any effect once they are powered down? Is it not then down to the motherboard/BIOS? They are marvell yukon cards if that helps.
  3. Yeh checked all of the above again this morning. Its got wake on pci enabled, and all the check boxes above checked. Still wont wake from S5. :-\ I never thought of that, ill talk to our business manager and get some risk assessments sorted.
  4. Any more suggestions before I set fire to them?
  5. Thanks for the replies guys. Got 2 test Windows 7 machines and 1 Windows XP test machine. All 3 have the wake on PCI enabled and always have, and all have the option enabled in the device properties in device manager. Any more suggestions?
  6. Hi guys, Got a question. We have a room of RM ones. In the BIOS they have wake from ring and PCI. No wake on LAN option. So sending a magic packet does not work as you would expect. It will wake from standby and hibernate fine with Vanilla Windows 7 installed (because I assume windows takes care of this). However when CC3 XP is installed, it will wake from soft shutdown when tasked in RMMC. How do they do it?! Thanks
  7. I only have licenses for 3 2003 servers though :-\ which is a shame. I did wonder if it counted 7 machines towards the server count of 5. Now that I know it can include 7 towards the counts for the servers I can just roll out KMS when we have a full classroom of 7 PCs, for now I will just use MAK on everything. Then it will activate the 7 PCs and the servers? There would be 32-34 7 PCs and 3 2008 servers. Sound right? Thanks Firefox, that was massively helpfull.
  8. Oh, but the KMS keys work in a pyramid, meaning a 2008 KMS HOST key can activate a Windows 7 client, or a 2008 client. So the host HAS to be activated with a KMS key. It's never worked for me with a MAK'd 2008 host.
  9. Hi guys, I have 3 Server 2008 servers activated with MAK (threshold for KMS is 5) I need one to act as a KMS host for 7 and office, but it will only allow me to install keys to a server that is activated via KMS. Obviously, im 2 short so I cant do this. Suggestions? In my previous place we ran the host on an old 2003 box, but I want to avoid this if I can. Thanks
  10. Ok found it, now what can I do with it? I opened it and searched for the server path for the home folder and it found nothing. I'm assuming I cant just delete it. I hate RM with a passion right now.
  11. Thanks, where is the user.dat stored? I cant seem to find it.
  12. Hey guys, Im currently progressively moving from CC3. Got a 2008 R2 file server, tried to move a test users home folder and profile folder to a network share on the new server. Permissions are set, and then changed in the user object in AD. Vanishes from RM Management Console (Which I expect and dont really care about) but when the user logs in to a CC3 machine, the N: (home drive) is mapped but still points to the CC3 server share. Any ideas? Thanks
  13. Thanks for your input. Interesting points.
  14. Hi guys, Sorry if this is in the wrong section. We currently have a CC3 network and are looking to move to a Vanilla solution using VMWare to virtualise the new DC(s) and other servers. My question is this, what companies offer support aimed at education for Vanilla solutions using VMWare? We looked at RM but they only offer Vanilla support, not with VMWare, even though they supply VMWare solutions (what?!). I am the only technical person here with knowledge of 2008 servers and vmware, so if I am off ill, or when I eventually leave, there is no one here to support. Obviously, we have this in place with the RM network at the minute and management are keen to continue this kind of service. Do you have any experience of companies that offer this kind of service, that are specifically aimed at education. Thanks
  15. I did when a load of year 9's looked at me while I did it. Not so good.
  16. Read the whole post, it got me too :-\ lol
  17. 35-40 per FTE for EES for Desktop with Ent CALS, with about 50 per license for 2008 R2 at the minute. Got quotes from millgate, misco, novatech, capita and PCS. All coming in around the same really.
  18. Do you have a link to a diary on the likes of PNG Club? Myself, I drive a MK3 Astra, which like Ben is heavily modified. It's a few steps off being a fully road ILLEGAL track car. But for now, it can still get an MOT.
  19. Core 2 Duo @ 2.2GHz 1 GB ram 80 GB hard drive Old RM One At my old place I had a HP power house with i7 and lots of RAM. I used it to host a VM to migrate exchange. Was a beast. Now I struggle to open my start menu without going in to a rage.
  20. Crazy. I've got no real time frame to work to, all I know is that instant results are wanted as soon as numbers are agree'd. So it could be as soon as Feb that things need to be setup and ready to image workstations.
  21. 28 weeks to put the network in place?
  22. Planning a new network and getting prices together for it. On a major budget. As above
  23. Good luck Just read through this thread.
  24. That's weird, it always worked for me. The only thing I can suggest is leave it out of the image, sysprep them to change the SID (or by any other method), add to the domain and then use the Sophos console to deploy the client afterwards.
  25. Depends who's asking
