  2. Ever so slightly off topic, but related to Salamander. Says it can import staff and student timetables into the outlook calendar from your MIS. Is this aspect "live" so when cover is added before school at 8am, it'll appear in the outlook calendar, also if any changes are made to cover throughout the day it'll update? Currently staff use the timeline in SIMS and the cover manager emails out to all staff a cover list - but adding to outlook would be much slicker.
  3. Its not a lease? You buy the 5 year licence as a one off cost along with the AP and then just get another 5 years free. No yearly payments or subscriptions. Don't anticipate changing my wireless every few years, due to scale and cost. If after 6 years we decide to ditch it for newer technology (if there is new technology in 6 years) we haven't lost out but gained a years usage at no cost.
  4. Cheers @Arthur, and cheers @DJ-1701 - fired off an email, will keep trying to phone just in case on the off chance someone answers the phone and knows what they are doing. Also like @ChrisH suggestion of having stress toys on standby
  5. Sorry to bump an old thread. But has anyone managed to get their KMS sorted lately via the phone? Seem to be constantly going round and round in circles, with no one knowing what they are doing on the other end of the phone, very frustrating, been trying since Monday. Are you able to email similar to the way you can email [email protected] for your MAK to be increased?
  6. Offer is only valid until the end of July. We placed an order to expand our Meraki system and got the 10 year agreement for the price of 5. They offered us 10 year licences on the APs we were buying, or the option to even out all the licences to existing and new kit which would have been 7 year licence per AP. Another WiFi manufacturer has a similar offer on but cant remember which one it is - want to say HP but cant find the material on it now. Apparently this is why Meraki have done the offer to counteract the other company.
  7. Tried the Hills Components ones and also some Sanako ones (Headsets - Sanako). Both have the ear pad issue unfortunately, but that's the only "vandalism" or "wear and tear" we came across with the sanako ones - they are however close to £100 a piece.
  8. We admit students in order to generate the UPN, my understanding is that Parent Pay relies on that number, and that number can only be generated once the pupil is admitted? Once admitted we import into PP as a pre admission and give the parents the details.
  9. We do this in order to generate accounts for parentpay so parents can buy bus tickets, uniform and lunches before their son/daughter starts in September. It works.... but as Phil mentioned it can get a little messy if students who were due to start in September, in actual fact don't.
  10. £79.99 at game! Taking the mick there!
  11. Can you pre order anywhere?
  12. We allowed parents to give consent to biometric data being taken via email as long as the email was sent/received from the on record email address for that parent. This is then stored as a linked document in SIMS for future reference. We also have a few UDF's within the pupil record in SIMS (tick boxes), which are used to identify if the parent has consented, not consented, or the student has objected. We took advice from ICO at the time, and this process was deemed acceptable.
  13. I use mine to pay for what can be considered big purchases over the course of the interest free period. Car insurance and football season ticket are good examples. To pay monthly with the car insurance or football club is generally x amount plus a tiny bit of interest for doing so. Where as with a credit card I pay in one lump at 0% interest on the credit card and pay off a set amount each month until paid off in full over the 0% interest period. Improves credit score, and its a cheaper way of paying off car insurance if you cant usually afford the one lump payment.
  14. We get the exact same error message as @ass17 gets too. @Stuajnht any chance you could PM me details of things to try and get it up and running? Thank you
  15. Another +1 for HIKvision We have 10 cameras recording using the free software they come with. Save a months worth of footage to a 6TB NAS. Quality of the footage is very good although they were a bit of a pain to get working in the first instance.
  16. We use them, however its for point to point wireless and a virtual firewall. Changed from leased line as bearer was only capable of 100MB and wireless is capable of more, that was the sole reason. Will be looking towards a 1GB bearer in the future though. They have just gone through a re-brand, they are now M247 https://m247.com/
  17. Gone through a similar process recently and we are increasing to 150mb now with the option to scale up if and when required. Works out more cost effective than going 1GB straight away as that level of bandwidth isn't required straight away. Currently we average around 60MB on a daily basis so plenty of room for growth now and in the future.
  18. This thread has been very valuable with all the information added to it over the course of the weekend. Did all I could over the weekend, and in early today just as a precaution.
  19. We've had this type of setup for a while now. 2monitors and a projector connected via a Lenovo M700 tiny which has 1x VGA out and 2x display ports which mirror each other via windows 10 settings, no requirement for additional cables or splitters. Teachers were a little wary of it at first but as time went on the feel it's a positive step as now they can show a PowerPoint on the projector and have sims open privately on the other screen. Some interactive screens don't like the setup though and simply don't work nor some old legacy software which once opened won't change screen to display on the projector - in particular some old maths software. But teachers aren't bothered which I think shows the interactive nature of screen has never really been used.
  20. We have several hundred of of the M700 tinys, not got any all in one versions though. Tinys are a great little machines. They are mounted onto the back of both normal and interactive monitors. Some with dual screen, some with triple screen output. Didn't need monitors everywhere so we bought the mounting bracket for about £20 and re used monitors which are already 22" which saved us a fair bit of money. Had around 2 fail over the course of about 18 months or so but Lenovo engineer was out the next day, replaced SSD no questions asked and all working fine again.
  21. @minimoo I think we are both looking at this from different angles. Every school is different and this is possibly why not all things get implemented via this voting system Capita have in place. What one school deems important, others may not and even then Capita may deem it not possible. All I want is a quicker way to update SIMS via Solus, I appreciate that is has come on leaps and bounds since the days of SOLUS 2 etc but there is still room for improvement, whether that be performance related or function / feature related. While it may only take 4 minutes to send out the update command to your 500 odd stations, that's not the length of time for the update to complete? Once the command is received the stations need to update, do all your stations update within that 4 minutes or is this the 30minutes you mention further up the threa? I'd have to go through the logs from the last rollout but it can take a good hour or so for all 400 stations to update and be in a working state. Maybe I have some configurations wrong somewhere if all your 500 are ready to go and work within a matter of minutes?
  22. Number one - Would be a nice feature, but wouldn't hold my breath for it being developed. Number two - We don't deploy all workstation patches or database patches, just the ones that effect us so number two isn't really a problem. As all patches are included within the main Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter releases anyway that follow on from the patch isn't that what your trying to achieve? Number three - as mentioned above already possible. Most important thing to us that we've asked to be developed is to be able to set priorities on stations. This will allow solus update machines with the highest priority first instead of what is generally a round robin attempt. Some staff work all year round, for their machines to update in the middle or at the end of a list of stations in excess of 400 is poor and unproductive. (if this is possible some other way i'm all ears).
  23. Nothing specific on RM site with that event message. Are the recovery settings setup on the stations? If you go to services -> RM Service Host ->Properties -> recovery -> first, second and subsequent failures set to restart the service? Could see if that helps. Is the Blob Manager starting? That's a dependency for RM service host. Other than that, probably best logging a call with RM.
  24. What happens if you rebuild the effected stations? Do you get an error message within Event Logs or in the RM logs which gives details on service hosts failure to start?
