Another upgrade to the Outlook app (on iOS yesterday), now on version 4.7.0 and log files are back to normal sizes. Not getting as many errors in the logs, so hoping devices are updating to the latest version and that's resolving the issue. Made no other changes to the exchange server but since 4.6.0 release last week log files have been steadily reducing in size day on day!

Just looking on iOS store now and there is an updated version of the outlook app released yesterday (4.6.0), fixes performances issues - installing that and will check logs to see if it reduces the number of requests.

How have your users taken to not being able to use the Outlook app on their devices? What are you asking them to use instead? Dont particularly want to disable the functionality as we have 400 devices using Outlook app at the moment.

I've got same issue, gone from around 800MB a day to well over 10GB a day! Got NTFS compression setup on the folders and it doesn't help at all for me i'm sorry to say. Got the logs set to clear out daily, but its still puzzling and troubling. Sundays Log was 9GBs, today it already at 19GBs and its only 11am No server changes have been made, but...... around the time the logs started to increase in size (around the 25th September I noticed they started to get steadily larger) saw the release of iOS13!!! Could be utter pure coincidence but had issues with latest versions of iOS and Exchange in the past, so its not impossible i suppose. As more devices have upgraded it could see the size of the logs increase hence why the increase has been steady?

DVI HDMI Displayport and VGA - time for a new headache
Max_Power replied to mikemcsharry's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
What the problem you having withe current adaptors? Could it be that you need an active adaptor, and perhaps you have a passive one or vice versa? Bought some of these recently and they've worked fine for multiple outputs on a single machine in classrooms (2 monitors and projector). https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-VGA-Adapter-Active-Black/dp/B003V4TV8O -
Had similar issues with Exchange / Outlook 2016 and to resolve had to give the person wanting to see the calendar Owner permissions first, then straight after change the level of permissions to what ever is required e.g. publishing editor. Cant find the MS article about it now but that is what I circulated to the IT team here for future reference. So first off give the user owner rights; Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity username:\Calendar -User username -AccessRights Owner Once they have been granted owner access to the calendar you can then change the level of permissions required. Set-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity username:\Calendar -User username -AccessRights PublishingEditor

Whats the purpose for moving to a new domain, in making a new domain you may give yourself needless headaches and exchange will only be one of them. Migrated Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016 couple of years ago, it wasn't too bad, mailboxes moved over quite easily and quickly, but that was on the same domain. Nice GUI to migrate across, took about 2 days to migrate 1.75TB of data in mailboxes, and separated them into multiple databases.

Browsing the website this morning and iSAMs are listed. https://www.bettshow.com/bett-suppliers-list/isams-independent-ltd

We use the 3M Privacy Screens when computers are used in examinations, sadly we didn't find a cheaper alternative at the time, but that was best part of 4/5 years ago.

We make Edge, IE, Chrome and Firefox available on all workstations across site. The user can use which ever they feel most comfortable with, but also if there is an older site that doesn't work in Edge, chances are it'll work with one of the other browsers and vice versa.

Looking at using multiple delivery groups, with some device licences in one delivery group which are designated to specific devices on site, and then use the concurrent licences for other areas. When Citrix was implemented we maintained our PCs, we didnt throw them away, they just became the highly powered thin clients that never needed to be replaced, so in theory some could go back to thick clients again not ideal and a pain in the backside, but the licencing model is so expensive now without campus. Also yes we use Photoshop and some staff use Illustrator - have 4GB allocated to VMs.
-
Cheers for replying @mjk and @m122794 I guess that confirms the fears of massive cost hikes. The campus agreement was financially viable as an alternative to replacing PC's year on year, but now it suddenly becomes questionable. Not managed to get a straight answer regarding the other proposed solution outlined above. But I have found details about mixing licence types between user / device licence and concurrent licences on the same site, just buy crunching numbers to see if I can buy a mixed economy.

Been notified that Citrix Campus is end of life - nothing new, knew it was coming. But a replacement doesn't seem to really be on the cards, I've been told I can purchase Cloud version of XenDesktop (XenDesktop Services) which can be treated as “a sort of replacement” for Campus licenses to quote the email from Citrix Vendor. Just wondered what licencing model people are moving to instead or if they have already moved to the above? The "sort of replacement" doesn't fill me with much confidence. Max

MIS Migration - How many years data to retain
Max_Power replied to techie17's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
SIMS is a perpetual licence so could you not just keep the historical data there as an “archive” for data as and when / if required? Wouldn’t qualify for updates or maintenance but would that be needed if it’s purely acting as an archive? -
Best way to get to Canning Town from Euston? If DLR is broke? Euston - London Bridge on Northern Line then London Bridge to Canning on Jubliee? Then Bus from Canning to Excel? Says on web that issue on DLR is before Canning Town between Bank and Poplar?

I have a large number of JPEGs in a shared area, all the JPEGs file names are listed in column A of a spreadsheet. I want to be able to change the name of all the JEPGs to the contents of column B. Tried via macros in Excel and a couple of scripts i found on the web, but cant get them to work correctly if at all. Anyone ever done something similar with a piece of software (free if possible) or some other method? Cheers

All staff and students communicate via their own school email account. Students are restricted to sending to 20 addresses at a time, and only prefects and head boy / girl are allowed to email the all student and all year group distribution lists.

Is it possible to do an in place upgrade from SQL 2017 Standard to SQL 2017 Enterprise? I know it’s possible in previous releases but I can’t find any documentation about it on Microsoft or elsewhere. The only information I can find is it’s possible to upgrade from developer to enterprise.

Sorry to BUMP this thread, but what is the general census on this? Do people have Fire Suppression within the server rooms, or like @Katy mentions, the simple hand held fire extinguishers? Found systems such as these https://www.safelincs.co.uk/redetec-fm200-automatic-fire-suppression-unit/?fGB=true but wondered if other people have anything?
-
Feel sorry for the staff. They have been very good to us over the years but the hardware market is so competitive, there isn't much profit to be had in it these days so its not surprising they've gone bump and there "solutions services" they started to develop to move the business forward never really lived up to competitors who have done it for years.

Hold a valid site licence for CS5.5 which was bought quite a while back now, (not to jinx it) but it is still working perfectly fine on Windows 10 Education and has been for a couple of years, deployed via SCCM. Cant justify the cost for the latest version of CC when it's based on a per seat basis per year. We understand the risk of a MS update bombing it and in which case we'd be forced to look at alternatives. Some staff / students are already using paint.net as an alternative to Photoshop - completely understand its not got all the "bells and whistles" Photoshop has, but it would seem not everyone uses the wide range of tools within it, thus said both are installed in the various suites around site because some people do use the tools within. Never used Premier Pro though and its not part of Creative Suite.

Asked SIMS for the DBDiag script and they said it doesnt exist, and what i want isnt possible but I should put it forward for a change request as other schools may find it useful. Do you have a copy of the script @matt40k ? Is that output you have @Banjo via the script mentioned?
-
Quite possibly just my own sense of humour, but found the below photo quite entertaining. SIMS independent tweeting about their stand at an independent school conference with an accompanying photograph that shows a member of staff from a competitor (ISAMS) in it. Not only that but shes having their pick and mix. Sorry its been a slow day

I'm wondering if there is a way in which you can extract a full list of all the reports that people have generated within SIMS over the years that all users can see? If you go to reports - run report - focus you have a full list of all the reports made under the various topics e.g. Students, or contacts etc. Secondly is there a way to extract a list of all the reports individuals have generated for themselves only that only they can see? Cheers
