I've inherited a school that has had a lot of DNS issues due to an old server not bring demoted correctly and the roles not being transferred. We want to remove Active Directory & DNS etc and rebuild it so its all correct but the concern is that the server runs SIMS. What would be the effect on SIMS / FMS if we removed all roles from the server and dcpromod it, then rebuilt it? Would SIMS remain intact as its just a database? Thanks for your help. Matt

Is that expensive tech? What stops other places using it such as cinemas? rather than those cheesy kevin bacon clips.
-
They could use that kind of tech in Cinemas & Hospitals surely?

Reminds me of Top Gear strapping an iPad to their creations as "Navigation"!

I don't think so, Jet2 look to still be in business. Also they're a Leeds based airline, I flew from Gatwick to Sharm. Thats really going to bug me now! Matt

The flight to Egypt? Was a company called er... JetBlu or Blu something like that. I remember they went bust shortly after my flight home. Very Very budget! I do remember headphones were nearly £5! A can of Coke was just as much! Matt

Thanks Dos_Box, I couldn't see there being an issue with it but I remember trying to watch a film on my iPhone (Anything was better than Marley & Me) on my way to Egypt a while ago they told me off! Matt

I have managed to get some time off and am jetting to Tenerife in June but I was wondering what the current laws if any are about using an iPad on the flight? Just watching films that sort of stuff. Obviously i'd put it in 'Flight Mode' but does that satisfy airlines? Matt

I need the software that came with the Edgestore NAS400 by Edge10. From their website it looks like they only deal in monitors, which confuses me! Does anyone have it? Or can you find it? Many thanks, Matt.

Simple Helpdesk with LDAP/AD Integration and Single sign on...
fairm010 replied to davida50000's topic in Windows
You need to ensure your domain appears in the Domains section under Admin. Make sure it has any affixes such as .local. then that domain name MUST match the domain name you give here. I am happy to show you the working settings from our working 'desk when I am on site on Monday. Matt -
Use group policy! User > Admin Temp > Start Menu & Taskbar > Remove default programs link from start menu. Although by the sounds of it, it has nothing to do with the desktop it does remove all "Public" profile start menu / desktop icons. Matt

As i type this the advert for the helpdesk i'm suggesting has just popped up! We use ManageEngine Servicedesk Plus and it has never failed us. Free for up to 5 techs too! Matt -
Just noticed is says its synced with atomwides USO database that is linked with our SIMS here. You may be able to use it with the plain SIMS -> AD im unsure.

Anything against the use of personal equipment in schools.
fairm010 replied to fairm010's topic in General Chat
Chazzy: Yes the whole school is SMART interactive. The tricky chappy had bought a smart notebook license for his personal machine for home use before I joined the school, so I cant play that card. Phil: Personally I don't have a problem with him using his personal equipment, in fact I encourage it, as I don't have to support it! However the issue is there is a perfectly good machine in his room that has access to all curriculum software, all network shares, all the printers and has the full SMART suite on it. He stores ALL his school + personal data on a USB HDD that I know he never backs up (and that he frequently loses), even though its made clear if he backs up to his network drive its backed up nightly off-site. When he is not in his classroom and a supply teacher comes in expecting to be able to play a DVD within 2 minutes of walking in the room like the rest of the school can, they spend 20 minutes plugging back in VGA, Patch Lead & SMART Board USB. I am convinced I have seen a certain file sharing program on his desktop that is lurking there. + the 1000 VGA leads I have replaced with broken pins because hes half heartedly shoving the VGA into the port upside down. I welcome BYOD and using personal hardware but not when it starts affecting other teachers lessons and my time spent replacing VGA leads and emergency call outs to re plug in everything just because he hasn't. Rant over!
