Anything against the use of personal equipment in schools.
fairm010 replied to fairm010's topic in General Chat
Thanks guys, this is the stuff im looking for. Its already been made plainly clear to them that their laptop will NOT be supported as a school computer. I like the idea of blocking his MAC, i'll look into that. -

You try doing that here! -
We have a teacher who likes to use his personal laptop in school on the interactive whiteboard etc. We (Head of IT & Myself) would like this to stop, as we cant be sure of the personal content on the laptop. I am well aware if it should be in our AUP etc but iv'e just taken over this school and don't want to go poking in areas that i shouldn't yet and it is just a small primary so no BYOD or anything like that here. Are there any government / Ofsted guidelines against the use of personal equipment in schools? Matt

Stupid question but in a n00b with WDS. I understand all that injection driver business, seems straightforward enough however: Do i inject into the Windows 7 image im installing or the Boot image that you initaially boot into? -

Thanks guys. We are due to upgrade to 2012 in Easter but they want the PC's imaged this week! I'll give this a go! Thanks again Matt -
I need to image a group of PC's that must have an unsupported network card. (The weirdest thing being i managed to succesfully use the boot image to "Capture" but the "Install" doesnt like the NIC.) I have read the easiest way is to inject the driver into the offline boot image using DISM but i cant find any decent guides anywhere. Can anyone help? (On another note, we have just received "The Call"!)

Anyone want to explain my water heater to me?
fairm010 replied to Little-Miss's topic in General Chat
About the water running, I had that on my place when I moved in. Turned out the pressure release valve was set too low, so it was releasing all the pressure along with the water! Matt -
.exe and .swf were the first done! Now to get .xls past SLT for those pesky excel embedded games! Matt

They're on a different drive on a different server, but that whole drive is backed up with no exclusions. Its only a primary on this site so not too major. Matt

Staff here are only allowed to save "Documents" in their my docs folder. Any media must be saved to a seperate media drive that is backed up elsewhere. I just wanted all the carp filtered out of this backup!

I had no idea where to put this! Can somebody provide me with a list of file extension exclusions they use with their backups? I've done the normal ones *.wmv, *.MOV etc but I wondered what others exclude. Matt

I cut my SIM not long ago as I couldn't wait for a new one. I had a MicroSIM to work from and found it very easy! Matt

Yes, it has a built in backup facility that we backup to our SAN in another building.

We have a Buffalo Linkstation 2TB here and never had fault with it, although i've seen complaints on here that their rubbish. It has sat in a comms cabinet for 3 years now and never had to touch it. Cheap too! Buffalo LinkStation Live 2TB NAS (LS-X2.0TL-EU) - www.misco.co.uk

We bought a dedicated NAS to hold all media (videos, images, music) . Works very well as a mapped drive called mediaonly. Also create a rule to prevent them saving media into their home drive.

MalwareBytes Anti Malware
fairm010 replied to fairm010's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It's actually really good! We only have it on teachers laptops so that they're covered when they go home and go on numerous websites they shouldn't on school hardware. Had no conficts with Sophos at all but it does tend to pick things up that Sophos doesn't. Matt -

We are using MBAM here but it will not update since our proxy was replaced. Does anyone have the details of their update servers so I can whitelist them? Matt

No loss really. It was boring wondering around that place with nobody else on ever. Besides it was stuck on 1.3! Would be good to round up a few people and all get on there.

I'd be up for this, I can be on any time after 5! I've notices the server is offline now, is that right?

Thanks James, I'll try over the weekend. I tried MDT before and just couldn't get the hang of it. Maybe I'll try one day when I can lock myself in the office! Thanks again.
