  1. All our SIMS support comes from our LA with instructions to run the upgrades during office hours in case of problems.
  2. It happened to me and it’s very annoying when you only have one server that runs everything and it restarts in the middle of lessons... but that's SIMS for you
  3. See here http://schools.becta.org.uk/upload-dir/downloads/data_encryption.pdf
  4. I've used this Yawcam - Yet Another Webcam Software in the past with good results
  5. Anyone?
  6. This webcam’s no good… I’m not getting anything done
  7. I don’t know which VLE is the best but there should be a vote for the worst VLE.
  8. Yes I see the interface has had an overhaul and looks all the better for it. Now all I need is an idiot’s guide to setting up ISA, as all the sites I’ve found so far talk about it as if you’re an expert.
  9. Is the school paying for your hotel?
  10. After testing TC I find that there can only be one password in use at a time. When the hard drive is encrypted a backup of the header is made which will allow the original password to be reinstated if a user has subsequently change it. So in a nutshell, regardless of what the current password is the HD can be ‘unlocked’ as long as you have the original password and the backup CD that was made at the time the HD was encrypted. After a practice run on a spare laptop TC seems straight forward to use and we plan to encrypt all staff laptops before the report session starts this year.
  11. Is there a way to set Exchange 2003 mail management to delete the contents of a users junk mail folder? It’s a simple matter on the other outlook folders using mail manager but I see no option for the junk mail folder.
  12. @Box_i: Yes I’ve read that but it didn’t help, thanks anyway. In the end I had to remove the server from the domain before ISA would install. Talk about being a pain, and to cap it ISA 2006 looks completely different to the 2000 version I know well so now I need to waste more time learning how to configure the thing
  13. I’m getting the following error when installing ISA 2006 on a win 2003 server. "Setup failed while creating the services configuration." Then after ckicking ok I get this error "Setup failed while restoring the services configuration" Any ideas
  14. How are schools choosing passwords when encrypting laptop hd’s? Is it all laptops use the same password or do you let the laptop owner choose their own password?
  15. A patch is on the way. Microsoft issues emergency patch warning for IE ? The Register

    Installing SQL

    Thanks.
  17. I'm installing SQL 2005 ready for SIMS and have got to the components screen. Now am not sure what other components apart from the SQL server database services I need to install
  18. All sorted. It wasn’t as difficult as the KB article looked.
  19. Situation: Server 2000 DC with Exchange 2000 on same box. Right, given the info above how do I add a server 2003 R2 to this domain? My plan is to add the new server to the domain, transfer the roles, Exchange etc, then remove the original 2000 box from the domain. I’ve ran adprep /forestprep on the 2000 box and it throws an error saying the schema has not been changed and refers me to microsoft knowledgebase 325379 How to upgrade Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows Server 2003. From reading the article I appear to be in scenario 2 but I only want to upgrade the schema and not upgrade the old box to 2003. What is this the best way to proceed now?
  20. I’ve changed the raid and made a 40GB system partition. This server is replacing a win2000 box and will be the only server acting as jack of all trades. Now I need to decide on the partition sizes for the other drives and what is installed where. I’ve got 505GB unallocated space to play with. So far my list includes: ISA cache only mode SQL 2005 Exchange 2003 Sims CA anti-virus WSUS Users data (currently 50GB) Any thoughts?
  21. We call our vbs scripts directly from the login bat without using wscript.
  22. Any error messages
  23. I don't remember seeing a CD for the raid. Could I use the options at boot-up?
  24. Thanks for the reply guys. It looks to me like the spare HD is being used. Apart from removing the drive is there anyway to configure RAID to keep it as a spare? The server is using a Perc 6 controller.
  25. The problem is definitely with Rising Stars not setting correct permissions when creating the said registry key. I tried regini but gave up as I found it didn’t work as required. The best way apart from Rising Stars programming correctly is to use group policy to set permissions on the required registry key.
