At least is nothing rude . I was looking for a more appropriate message but when I heard the hello one it reminded me of the smiley popup advert which is quite annoying. The kids like it here but if anyone wants to supply me with a more appropriate sound file I will change it.

He does but the batteries have gone . Seriously, it’s not the caretakers job to turn projectors off and if a projector is still on when he locks up at 5:30 that’s 2 hours of unneeded use in 1 day alone. Multiply that by a school year and the figures add up.

Isn’t this the old problem of using a .jpg image for the desktop? I’ve had this myself when changing the desktops for a seasonal Christmas backdrop and converting the image to .bmp solved the problem.

Thanks, that was spot on.

I’ve been trying to use conditional formatting on an Excel spreadsheet and I need help! The spreadsheet has 5 columns. Surname, Forename, Reg, DOB, Permission and I want to highlight the rows depending on the value in the permission cell. So if the permission cell = YES I want the whole row to be highlighted green and if the permission cell is NO I want the whole row to be highlighted red. Using conditional formatting I can get the permission cells to change colour but not the whole rows.

I’m assuming this workshop is just for Leicestershire county schools?

Thanks for that. I think I'll just disable it for now and remove it completely later on.

The idea for his little program came about because the caretaker was finding projectors left on when he was locking up. It displays a large message on the screen, toggles the background colour every 10 seconds and announces an audio message after a minute and every minute after that until the message is clicked. I thought about using Net Send but it seemed a bit tame and I needed something that wouldn’t be ignored. We’ve had it running for 2 weeks and it definitely makes a difference. Run it at the end of the day and perhaps at lunch using the AT command to schedule it to run on the remote machine. AT \\machinename 15:15 /INTERACTIVE /EVERY:m,t,w,th,f "\\server\share\Projector.exe" Projector.zip

Several weeks have past since migrating FMS to SQL. Now I want to uninstall SQLAnywhere but there’s nothing in add/remove programs to accomplish this. How do I go about it?

I’ve got an XP machine which is refusing to print purchase orders to a HP 2600n printer, however it will print to a HP 3600n in the next room. I’ve installed the latest drivers for the 2600n but it still won’t print from the XP machine. Printing orders from the 2000 server or a Vista machine to the 2600n works fine.

I use rdp for server access and ssl explorer for file access. I've still got version 1.0.0_RC17 here if you can't find it.

Thanks for all the recommendations. It all started because our LEA sent round a document about data security and we should be using Imation USB drives to encrypt the data stored on them. The only Imation drive I can find that does encryption is Imation - USB Pivot Plus Flash Drive but our usual supplier Misco doesn’t sell them so that’s why I’m looking for a replacement. I contacted the IT support services at the LEA who were listed in the document but they were unable to help but gave me the name of someone in a different department. So I contacted this other person but they were unable to help either, but they did give me the name of a different department who might be able to help. I’m still waiting to hear from the last department. The words “pen” and “pusher” spring to mind.

School Policies, AUP, Internet, Laptop Etc......
Jobos replied to Kyle's topic in School ICT Policies
I'm after a policy to cover staff that use student data at home i.e. reports and any other confidential information. -
The HT has gone security mad and wants all the teachers to start using USB flash drives that have password AND encryption to transport their data on. I know there’s been a similar thread on this subject recently but I don’t want to use software encryption as it will be my head on the block if a teacher looses their reports even if it’s through their own stupidity. So I’m after recommendations for USB flash drives that use encryption built in to the device.

Thanks I should have known that…

I’ve written an application in Visual Basic 2005 that displays a message on the desktop and scheduled this to run at the end of the day. When I right click on the scheduled task and choose run it works fine but when set to run at a certain time the scheduled task window says it’s running but I can’t see it. What am I doing wrong?

I’m setting up the demo version of Paper Cut and was wondering if anyone has got the actual cost of printing a page of A4 colour photos for the HP 3800?

Like many we run our own exchange server with the office staff having access to a shared admin@ mailbox. The head has own mailbox but any emails that arrive at the admin@ address can be forwarded to other people easily. The admin email is a magnet for spam but at least with a shared mailbox it doesn’t have to be sorted by just one person.

I've installed papercut in demo mode and although it's only doing auditing at the moment I'm already impressed with the logging and charts.

Just got a quote for PCounter for our primary school and it came in at £495. Now I see PaperCut NG is charging £225 for primary schools so unless I’m missing something PaperCut wins.

We’ve been thinking of running an after school video club. Being a primary school it would just be a few minutes of filming to practice editing and putting a music track to it. It would be shown back to the club and maybe in assembly if it’s any good. At no time would it leave the school. How would we stand with copyright on this?

Does ActivPrimary now work with Vista? I did an install of ActivPrimary last year and it ended with all sorts of errors. Are they now compatible?

Cheers... whoever said it was going to be easy
