I thought that by using vbs you could query the AD to find out when the password was last changed.

Thinking back they failed a laptop because the battery clip was broken and the battery was being held in place by gaffer tape. I confess that it was me who made the ‘repair’ as I didn’t think that it be subject to any tests

So items that aren’t mains voltage would include the ZIP drive, small switches, access points and laptops (the power adaptor and leads should be tested)

So even a ZIP drive that runs at 5v needs testing? I can't see how they would connect it to the machine and why has no one ever tested it before.

The site manager was telling me he has found a new company that do PAT testing and got the price down to £1 per item which is a large drop from the £1.16 he paid last year. They came in last week and I’ve found items which have never been tested before. I understand anything with a plug on needs testing but these guys have tested to a whole new level. What I mean is the wireless access points have been tested... not just the power supply but the access point itself. I’ve found small 4 port switches tested and they have even tested a 750MB ZIP drive, again not just the power supplies but the devices itself. Moving on to laptops, there’s 3 test stickers used. The power lead, the power adapter and the laptop itself. I’m getting a feeling that these guys are making up for offering a low price by testing anything and everything!

Yes all the drives are IDE as the machine is around 4 years old.

Can anybody recommend a replacement for a Sanyo PLC-XU41. The projector was fitted by Promethean and is in a cage. I don’t want to have to move the cage so I want the new projector to be an easy fit if there is such a thing.

Seriously, the last strike I can remember was in the summer holidays. There were only me and the cleaners in school. It was a real farce.

Thanks. I reseated the ram but it made no difference. Lucky I had a new stick of ram spare so that’s now installed and so far I haven’t been able to recreate the problem which is a good sign. I’ll know more on Wednesday when I’m back in school.

I’ve got an XP machine that for 50% of the time will not boot past POST. When it happens the machine will just sit there with the power light on and no video output. Ctrl + Alt + Del has no effect neither does pressing the reset button on the case. When in this state the only way to boot is to power down the machine then power back up. I’ve changed the power supply and reset the BIOS. Any ideas what else to try?

I’ve installed the java file and restarted IIS but I can’t see any extra buttons in OWA. According the readme I should be using premium client access mode but we have only ever used one mode here and I can’t tell which one that is.

If there’s a GP to install the compatibility pack that would be a great help otherwise it will mean a visit to each machine to run it by hand. A job for the holidays I think

I need recommendations for a B&W laser printer which will be used for printing OMR sheets and other SIMS documents and is to replace a HP 1200 which has just died. I would like the printer to have a small footprint as it will need to fit on the desk.

Would I need to know about Linux to use FOG and are you running FOG on a separate box or would it be ok on a DC?

Interesting to read you need permission to use pupils photos on display boards in school. In the 3 schools I’ve worked at none of them did this but maybe Hampshire is on the ball or just covering themselves.

I’m taking pictures of the school fete tomorrow and wondered what the position is regarding taking pictures at such an event. I’m assuming as the public can walk in I’m given carte blanche to photograph anyone and everything which I will do as long as they don’t object. I intend to put the best ones on the school website and I hope I wont have to track down people to get their permission like the pupil pictures taken in school.

I'm putting it off till I've got time in the summer holidays and then I will be using WSUS.
