You can use WSB, but you would need to use UNC paths. The user account you use for the scheduled task would need to have permissions to the share (which should be fine even if not on the domain) and bear in mind that it can only hold one backup per set. To get round this, I use folders named Week 1, 2 etc and have the task run every 4 weeks

Sadly jut one of those roaming profile annoyances. We don't have to reset them that often, but it does need doing from time to time as all sorts starts misbehaving including folder redirection in our case

Sounds like logon limits to me then. Heck the event log on the rdp server which would report the log off event too.

I just replied to your other post with tips on the logging off issue. I've got some bits on my blog on thin client using thin PC. I used have users log on from the Ctrl alt del screen, but have moved to a desktop shortcut in a restricted shell...no start menu, etc. See the link in my signature below

Check in Remote Desktop Configuration that you don't have session or logon limits enabled. I do use them, but set them at 6hrs to make sure everyone is off in the evenings.

One I've found is make sure you tick the box for on "data access" for copy to distribution share (on 2012)....

Yep, used to it here to. Pain it is, gpo's to nerf profiles from machines, but every now and then one thing stuffs the odd one

Just to jump onto this thread late...I'm running a terminal services farm for part of my estate, somewhere around 80/90 machines in curriculum and another 50 ish in admin locations. Works generally well, and bar some issues with some wyse units I would say its ok. We have a mix of wyse and windows thin PC units. For your traditional graphics intensive areas, eg ICT, Art, Design, Music - physical machine is still the way... with over 300 machines lurking around the site. On the other bits of the thread...I'm also a great advocate of Salamander; as well as being a Sharepoint, Exchange and Lync integrated user

At install time, as part of the deployment, you can specify to download the source files to local before install, download when needed, or run from remote source

We've got that fancy three compartment stuff...but new guidelines mean we've got those coloured fillets around sockets to highlight them. On a plus, the compartments have plenty of scope to expand in future and there's lots of it around the rooms.

Some of you may have read from my previous Microsoft School Blog posts that I run a HyperV Clustered network. This consists of 3 HyperV Hosts, running Server 2008 R2 (considering when to upgrade to 2012)... with the VHD server data files located on a SAN. This allows me to use the Failover Clustering feature to manage the resilience of the network. This week; I came across an odd problem. I was getting ready to do some maintenance across the system - and running a backup across the Hosts of each of the VMs located on them. As part of this process I wanted to move the owner of a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) disk first. Cluster Shared Volumes are the bit of power that allows you to seemlessly present the same pool of storage with all the VHDs on to all the servers simulataneously. This make the live migration work - yes, thats the feature in VMware land called VMotion - that you pay for! So, anyway - I digress... I go into Failover Manager find the CSV resource and select migrate to other node…. Only to be presented with Operation has failed. The action ‘Move to node <nodename>’ did not complete Error code: 0×80071398. The operation failed because either the specified cluster node is not the owner of the group, or the node is not a possible owner of the group What the!! Ive had enough problems with this cluster/SAN/CSV’s in the past - and its usually the DHCP virtual server cluster that refuse to connect their iSCSI disks... So.. lets have a look at the “Possible Owners list” - and sure enough this server was missing a few command laster and were are back in business. To tell who are the possible owners run: Cluster res <resource name> /listowners To to add a server to the list Cluster res <resource name> /addowner :<servername> Job done... oh, but remember, Server 2008 R2 needs you to run these commands from an elevated command prompt.

Run away! Don't go there. Its probably cheaper to look at the Lea option...
