All I see is alot of questions and no answers from government like some one said maybe they had bad advice it's well and good having open systems but if it can't do what you need you have to 1 rely on someone coding it or 2 find somthing else which could be costly

I dunno I just think they are not thinking about the bigger picture. Or maybe they are I don't know and I don't know the figures but I would expect alot of school are going to be rethinking about their future about weather to keep windows or not I just think they are pushing schools into a corner and they are and they know they are just think it's unfair.

What do they expect schools to do if they havent got the funds, or the expertise to move to an whole infrastructure to more affordable route for their licence requirements. surely they have to take this into consideration. I mean primary schools have like next to no money. And relying on bigger schools to help them. Very unfair ms

just out of curiosity how many schools use the ISP for their main gateway(router). or do you have your own router which acts as a gateway for the school? and then to pass that traffic onto the ISP router / firewall. internal lan > |ISP router / Firewall> | internet or Internal Lan > | internal router > | ISP router / Firewall > | internet

It is a shame that companies have to go low in order to keep in business. their is nothing wrong a healthy competition and people who are the decision makers like my self should be given the choice and not to have the hand forced. Surely if LGfl have thought that their services are the most competitive in price and that their services are excellent then people would stay with them and by doing what they have done (if proven right)about the blocking emails then I wouldn't be surprised if they lose alot of customers because of this.

Hi yes our department makes money off this by providing this service and the money goes back into my budget not alot but a trickle But I'm looking for either some sort of a sponsorship or some sort of Web portfolio of a company who provides lumps to non profit school I.E us

As im sure all NM are aware ICT Support / Services funding is a massive problem for schools as we only get a cut of the pie and a small piece at that, now im trying to do some investigation around how i can boost my budget with other sources of income, now unfortunately I know most of you are going to say outsource our ICT Services etc. or something along the lines, however that’s all well and good but my only problem is that smt most likely don’t like that idea. However we have slooowly started tapping into photo printing and the odd repair. Not much I know we had a person at my school that has now left she was in the process of applying for a grant to help replenish our outdated laptops etc. in the school, and this person and a wealth of experience in this type of thing and she knew what she was looking for, however i dont and was hoping someone could give me guidance to locate and find an organisation that is willing to part with their money to help me improve our schools problem i.e. we have close to 500 laptops plus networking gear. As there is no way I think the laptops / PCs could go for another 3 year bearing in mind that when the last lot of laptops where brought (pre me) they brought a lot and I have been trying to keep them going for a few extra years than what is worth, and replace them as an when I have had money but as you are aware there is “always something” and the budget goes down the pan further. oh dear sorry to hear so what is the actual problem? have you made the transfer of the data or have you already done that ?

I hope you manage to sort your problem as we are looking into this sort of thing for exchange 2007 and mo e to either exchange 2010 or 2013 but haven't quite made my mind up on the best possible way without loosing data lol

In 2008r2 and 2012 you really have a pdc (primary domain controller) however if you have a server that contains all the fmso roles you could called that the "primary" as you can now seize roles and transfer roles when dcs fail over (never been in that situation don't want to either ) when you add the new dc you can just add the dc and not the DNS but as long as you point the server to the primary DNS which hosts your .local zone you should be ok and then add the DNS at a later date if you are going off site wouldn't a read only dc be better for you ?

Well it depends becuase does the server you are replacing contains the fmso roles if not don't worry too much also what server is running DNS you should still be able to delegate permission to the server afterwards I think it should still let you continue.

Is this all one domain because you mentioned child domain so to me your telling me your trying to upgrade or add a secondary domain controller to the child domain or have I got that wrong sorry if I have that wrong also how have you setup the DNS settings on the new server

@Sagima how do you find it does it work ok? When you say the DPM server is backup by another DPM server I presume that includes the database for that DPM server plus protection groups etc I've been meaning to look into something like this for our DPM server but not had the chance in terms of protecting the DPM server was it easy enough to do and how big are the backups ?

We use dpm2012 for file and sql stuff but then we have veeam for our vms and well worth every penny

Myself and SLT, plus on a development level in regards to making custom web parts which you can do and I know some schools have done but I don't have the skill set and I don't really want to but if you do go down this road then good luck but like I said to use SLG you need sims as that's how it pulls the information into SLG
