I have no idea of the ins and outs just what I've been told from the director that this is what they going to be doing or at least going to be in there development design from my understanding they have had to jump through a lot of hoops to get this far.

I think sims is an OK product I don't think it's great but I think there is a lot that capita could with sims around safe guarding as (proactively real time almost) We have started using safeguard as I mentioned earlier in the thread, it's integration into the school has been really good we have admins that can see everything (pastoral dept) and then you have teachers that can only raise a concern. When all start are registered they can see there own training in line with ofsted and so you have your FGM, mental health, self harm etc all self pace or obviously the school can say they want it done by xyz But what I'm trying to get at is t this product is amazing they have also got the green light for the early year ( I think it's called) where by if a child goes to the doctors and they are being mistreated or concerns it automatically filters through to the school , and other leas and authoritys and this is being implemented now they have got the go ahead from Gov / NHS to put this in place which they are rolling out so this is going to be one of the next big upgrades for them now I don't know about other systems but what's more it's almost live it pulls ready only data from sims so it will pull over attendance, cp plans , alsorts but it's also most life I really do recommend people check this out because I think it's going to be a game changer soon

we have HP procurve switches and i'm having an argument with our site manager, about our switches around the school and the fact he wants to put timers on them, and im trying to argue my case on the fact that switches are not designed to be kept turning on and off so does anyone have any info that backs this up if you have been in this kind of position

HP Procurve 10GB Network Backbone Switching
kevin_lane replied to SHimmer45's topic in Wired Networks
I see a lot of different opinions which is good but personally for me personally I'm moving over to 10GB 1 because our increase in computing devices is increasing 2 when it comes to rolling our new equipment and it needs imaging on top plus on top of that if you need to roll out additional software over the network. 2 scanning of the network is becoming more popular these days and monitoring of switches and servers 3 (for us anyway) staff profiles are becoming bigger and is like same as fire fighting 3 it also future proofs the school 4 when you have 300 kids logging on its quicker Every one has there own opinion and if you have the budget do it you know your own network and can only decided where it's going to go. -
I would like to confirm and after long discussions and a few passing weeks between the that MLS.net has now taken the move to integrate AD Azure into MLS.net / Reading Cloud, this can be accessed from your library management > settings > Directory Services > Azure AD you will need your Tenanet ID, Client ID , Domain (e.g someschool.sch.uk) and should start working straight away however i left mine for the hour. like always any problems create a support ticket. i am not affiliated in anyway with MLS or their support, i was just a very upset and peed off person and i went out of my to track down and explained my problem to this person and that they needed to sort it, i'm not saying it was me that got this sorted but was supposedly coming. anyway happy authenticating kev

Whilst I love the fact of ad sync I have came across a problem whereby a staff user account was synchronised however for whatever reason it's used an exchange alias instead of his logon and which alias is wrong anyway and used the wrong alias and put them together for his office 365 login and I can't delete the account because it's synced
-
I think also ad azure ad sync came out last June 2015 I think maybe even before.

Do you have any evidence of them telling you this as I'm in talks with there MD and Software development Manager and I will put this towards them

from MLS - The ADFS on Azure is something that we are already looking but will require several weeks of development and testing before we can send it out to any staged released area that we could move you to. so i either wait or open ports

i agree i really think its a shamble that they can't use something like azure or ADFS or something, i really don't think they have thought about this part and like you i don't know what to do.

i would like to know if any other schools are using the hosted version of microlib, and how you manage the logins etc, when i uploaded our DB to them my concern was that because our AD was linked in when a user changes there password, how are they going to honor that new password within the new hosted microlib, when speaking to the support staff whom have been very helpful i must say and patient with me because of i have given them some stick on what they think is acceptable and what isn't e.g librarians are given access to reset pupils passwords within the cloud system, but what they fail to understand when you have 15 or more kids wanting or return books and take books out along with general queries, you cant expect a librarian to reset passwords as-well at least i don't think they should anyway - mls have mentioned that some schools use a front facing server i'm guessing has to be a domain controller (to be confirmed) which has an SSL certificated installed and to accept incoming and out going communication to and from MLS, and also using a feature called AD live link i don't really want to have to have to expose more of my network than i have to, and I'm considering on putting a read only DC in a DMZ - i don't know if this will work or I'm just grabbing for a solution, i dont know but any advise on what other schools have done would be grateful thanks
