  1. Might sound a daft question comming from a 'supposed' technician but whats the easiest way to find out what spec our Equinet Cachepilot is? I now have two going spare now we got rid of Espresso at those schools ( and I now have the extra cash to buy more print toner with ! ).
  2. you jest surely! Not here!
  3. The files are not in the redirected desktop but on the PC desktop. Happened when the network was down during summer and at the beggining of term when PCs logged on locally as the domain was not available so they saved odd files to the desktop! Now just want an easy way to tidy things up. Things were alright with redirected desktop before the summer.
  4. Is there a way I could auto remove spurious files i.e. files members of staff have dropped on the desktop that should not be therewith a script. We have a redirected desktop, so it would need to remove the files before the desktop files are loaded I presume, so where in GPO would I need to apply the script.
  5. Just had a look in there and in the Content.IE5 folders as well, lots of files but none relating to the work. I think once she exited the document because there were no errors all temp files were cleaned up relating to that particular file, she's not a happy bunny at the moment...keeping my head done, I've already had the blame because I work with computers!
  6. Just had a quote of £64 for 50 so ending up not as bad as I thought, got to be cheaper and better than sitting down with a laptop and burning one at a time which is the option they expected me to do
  7. Just had a major calamity from the wife, she had a Word document as an attachment, opened it up from Outlook Express (did not save it somewhere first after being told to do so last time!), said I kep saving it as I went along but now when I open it up all my changes have gone!!!! I've had a look in all the obvoius places but is there any chance of getting the changes back from a temp copy somewhere? Otherwise I informed her that unfortunately she will have to re do them and learn from her mistakes :-(
  8. Does anyone know of a reasonable dvd copy service and approx how much it would cost to get 40 copies of a disc. Its not pirate or anything, its a school owned DVD for new starters.
  9. We have had this problem on some of the older Sony Vio laptops. Fix it by just going in to the display properties and switch the external display to the primary display and visa versa with the laptop display and Bob's your uncle (or not as the case may be!), video on whiteboard and blackimage on laptop. Not a problem as you only need the video on the whiteboard as you can see the rest of the screen area on the laptop.
  10. I like the title of the track, 'Bleeding', just about describes my ears after listening to that..think I'm just getting old (or already there depending on your age and point of view!)
  11. Got a problem never been asked before so here I am, have a teacher (Polish) who just bought a new laptop when in Poland (Toshiba, its above board with warranty etc) and she was told it would be OK in England, however getting here its in Polish and she wants it to be in English. What options does she have to either change the language or is it a case of getting new restore discs in English instead of Polish, I presume from Toshiba. Think I found the answer, if Home edition, need to purchase english vista, if Ultimate or Enterprise then can change via control panel settings, multi-language.
  12. However Two Ton Ted from Teddington, who drove the bakers van was all cozy with Sue who lived at number 22.
  13. Its an Amstrad. Turned it off last night and back on this morning and its back to being OK (at the moment). Problem was it had lost signal from tuner/input 1, swapped the cables and still the same so I know its not the dish or leads and the box in the other room works fine. After a little googling this morning I found that it seems to be a common problem and is by all accounts related to the hard disk (I know it seems strange but thats from them who apparently know). Will just wait and see if its happens again. It is slower on the menus than our other box (don't think thats an Amstrad off hand) seems to wait ages before showing whats been recorded or even hangs for a few seconds so not looking good.
  14. Was that Steve Jobs I heard or those ghostly milk bottles a rattling in their crate....Ernie and he drove....(for the older members)
  15. Anyone tried to get in contact with Sky tech support (my Sky+ box has stopped playing ball!). Just tried at 11:30pm and get told they are very busy and cut me off. Am I in for the long haul in trying to get in contact with them oris there a 'good'time to call?
  16. Thanks, given us lots to look at unfortunately as we are a bit limited when we can fly it seems the flights will our biggest cost. Info has been much appreciated though.
  17. Whoops! Told you I needed another holiday!
  18. Thanks but not available to book in April
  19. Just comming to the end of the summer holidays so its time to start looking ahead to the Easter ones ; just like my performance management answers, Q: What are your targets? A: Pay the mortgage and look forward to he next school holiday...Oh sorry you meant me to be serious! anyway, the wife and daughter want to go the Florida and do the Disney holiday thing using a villa (not my cup of tea but hey ho), got some approx prices from the holiday shops today and they are wanting about £3500 for villa, flights and car hire!!! Anyone done this before and found a better way to get it all a bit cheaper?
  20. Thanks, there were not any NAS drives in my price rage last time I had this problem, hence the USB solution, but now there is. Its the way I want to go, the Iomega is not hyper quality (the drives are not replaceable) but it hits the right price range and hiost the basic requirements. Does anyone know what it means by being able to be configured "mirrored RAID1 or JBOD", I know RAID1 but not JBOD? [Forget the last bit, just googled it :-)]
  21. Went through this scenario last year (at another school) and (for the budget we had) ended up with a USB raid storage device WD My Book Mirror Edition 11 2TB Hard Drive Extern - Misco.co.uk which has worked quite well so far, but now the same scenario has cropped up at another school and I have come across this Iomega StorCenter ix2 2TB Network Hard Drive - Misco.co.uk for a NAS storage device that for the cost should cover our needs. Any views on it? The bughet I am looking for is £200 and below i'm afraid and its only September! Forgot to mention that for storage 1Tb total (2Tb mirrored for safety) would be OK
  22. Thanks to all, LogMeIn it is then, used it before so don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place.
  23. Just gave my mother a laptop and internet access...now I need to support her when she gets stuck. Whats the best (free if at all possible) solution so that I can do effectively a remote desktop session to show her how to do something when she gets stuck. She is on a wireless dongle (3G) and I have a broadband connection.
  24. Have a look at the Hitachi Education models. We have a few in school now. So far so good.
  25. Any chance of a copy of that script?
