[mdt] mdt issues on booting client pc client pc just reboots
ChrisH replied to sted's topic in O/S Deployment
Has it already got a task running on the disk that isn't working? Have you tried clearing the disk on the one you are trying to boot from first? -
I wouldn't use raid 0 it isn't worth the risk. I am using some 2 TB SATA drives in raid 5 with a disk for the OS. Mine is on an HP ML 115 with 3 gig of ram under server 2008 R2. The 3 gig of ram is not enough but it gets by for now with the occasional restart when it gets a bit sluggish. I am using it to back up about 8 VMs and our user data via DPM.

I'm going to guess answers will be between scale 5 to so1

You might want to expand on what that role is for you as I am sure it will vary. Some deputies still hold this type of role while other places have specialist staff or like me I am Network and Systems manager so I do it all. What I can tell you is there doesn't seem to be any appropriate profiles for it under the EPR.

If I remember correctly they will need full permission or at least modify on the folder that the program is installed.

Preplogic $1 & $3 mega guides are back
ChrisH replied to Kitkatninja's topic in Courses and Training
Thanks Ken I purchased a few of them. Annoyingly they have everything but the 70-646, which is what I am doing next. @Steve21 the books themselves are PDFs and they are more of an exam cram format for the specific exams. That's not to say they aren't good for getting a good overview of that particular subject. -
You can apply a different weighting to the different servers in the farm. I don't know how well it works as it is a future project for me. I am currently only using SIMS.Net as a published app and it works fine. It will will work even better when I move away from XP so I can use the pass through authentication.

I meant tcp ports.

Si, You need a filter or proxy that you can put on 2 different ports. Unblock Youtube at the LGFL and set one port for the teachers log on and another for students. You wont have to worry about usernames and I am sure a simple squid setup would cater for this with some sort of rule to block youtube on the student proxy. If needs be I am sure you could run 2 virtual instances, but I doubt this is necessary.

I don't rely on my 2003 shadow copies either as I have seen this weirdness. If shadow copies do let me down I have MDT that will let me go back 3 months for user files. It's a bit more involved than retrieving a previous version but still only an extra minute or 2 to get a file.

Firewall? Can they all ping each other?
-
Is it UAC that is asking for permission or is it a general file permission error? Also just in case you didn't know you can use a remote shell to execute commands on Windows 7 machines as well although by the look of it you will need to add your controlling computer to something called a trusted host list if you are working in a workgroup. Otherwise you just need to run winrm /quickconfig on all the machines once to set it up.

Pearson Vue, OCR tesing, "Delayed Write Failed"
ChrisH replied to CapnPugwash's topic in Educational Software
The hard drive is failing. I have seen that message many times, often accompanied by reboots with scan disk and lots of orphaned files. -
Have you been backing it up regularly so the transaction/log files (can't remember which exactly) get cleared? What OS is it Installed on?
-
I would still have been lazy though and put it on another server temporarily then reinstall and make the temp one the upstream.
-
Ah okay I didn't read the post properly
-
You could have just set the old one as an upstream server to the new one.

Any thought on DirectAccess in 2008R2
ChrisH replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Two things to note about direct access, you will need all resources to be IPV6 and you can only use it with the top 2 editions of Windows 7 eg Ultimate and Enterprise. Apart from that I like the sound of it. -
I have this on my Kindle, it's an educational read.
-
I would be a little more wary of applying without VMware experience, it's quite a core part of the job if they use it for most servers so I would say that is quite a big gap that is vital to the environment.
-
If that is the only thing then I would still apply. Maybe try and read up on it.

[sims] Make profiles report text come out as justified text?
ChrisH replied to ChrisH's topic in MIS Systems
Okay thanks, sounds like it's a no go. -
I am just experimenting with profiles and one of the last things I need to do is to get the output text to be justified as they are very keen on it here. I have tried marking the report tag in the template as a justified area but this doesn't affect it. Can this be done?
