Same here. The script detects which OU the computers are in and installs the printers accordingly and there is a shortcut to the script on their desktop in case it doesn't work for any reason (script itself is in a folder on the network with appropriate permissions set to allow access but prevent tampering, etc). This is only done for student installs as the teacher can install printers manually.

I needed some extra PCs over the summer and the only way to afford them was to buy off eBay. I also sourced a lot of other spares from there including brand new power supplies for our old HP laptops as they were half the price of anywhere else. There was a possibility that one of the faculties was going to have a new computer suite but I told them the only possible way with the budget they had was to buy refurbished.

I told a member of the admin staff this when they complained their computer was slow. She wasn't impressed and definitely didn't see the funny side...

Not recently but there were pre-prepared grids for some meetings when I was in the RAF! Only thing that kept you awake / sane...

In the main we have produced specific 'how-to' guides ourselves but they end up just being left on shelves, in laptop bags, etc.

Another AB Tutor Control here - only installed this summer in the 3 ICT suites and the teachers think it's amazing.

Placebo at the O2 Academy in Sheffield last May - it was only a few days before the album Battle For The Sun was released and not only was it the first time they'd played it to a paying audience it was a small venue and I was stood on the balcony as close to the stage as you could get. I also really enjoyed their gig in Manchester at Christmas but the Sheffield one edged it. Other than that I once went to a free event for Vodafone when my wife worked for them. The acts were Sheryl Crowe, Madness, Blue and Elton John. Every single one was amazing, I never thought I would say that about Blue, but Elton actually did more encores than he had planned as during the last one he was wearing a tracksuit as he had changed ready to depart.

I had a major rant at every opportunity when doing my HNC in Software Engineering because they dropped the OO theory element in favour of teaching 3D Studio Max. The tutor was supposed to relate it's operation to OO principles but he was an animator / graphic designer type so he didn't care about how it worked at a base level even if he actually knew. I was accused, quite rightly, of getting on my soap box but it annoyed me massively then and still does now.

I take it you have checked that Sanako doesn't start until after network login?

Do you have any sort of desktop control software installed? We used to have this issue with Sanako Study 300 if it wasn't set to start after network login.

I did clone a laptop once using a Ghost Enterprise floppy boot disk and a USB to USB laplink cable some years ago but I have a feeling it was a bit hit and miss. We purchased some hard drive cloners from Lindy last year for about £45 each and they have been a godsend!

I went for the large engine option mainly because of the number of miles I do. I've always found them better for commuting and the engines last longer - my last car was replaced at 205,000 miles purely because it needed a lot of welding doing which wasn't cost effective.

In my last job the NM always seemed to use 5m cables when .5m would have been more than long enough. You would have to wade through a multi-coloured "spaghetti screen" to get to the hubs (yes, I mean hubs!) and the telephone patching panels.

I need to spec and purchase a new server for SIMS but as I have never done so in the past I am being extremely careful. Even more so now I know that SIMS won't run on Server 2008 R2! Anyhoo, the LEA recommend 3 hard drives in a RAID 5 config but I am tempted to go for 2 mirrored drives for the OS, etc. and 3 hard drives in a RAID 5 for the data. This is what I would do for Exchange as it is akin to a SQL database so to me it seems logical. Can someone please let me know if my reasoning is sound?

From what I can see now I've had a chance to speak to them properly is that RBS need a comma delimited file and the one produced is tab delimited in some places and not delimited at all in others e.g. the bank's sort code has lots of other numbers after it (acct number, date, etc) in one long value.

Our Finance department have started to set up BACS payments but have hit a brick wall that the LEA say they can do nothing about. Although we are also contacting Capita and RBS again I wondered if there was anyone out there who can help? The issue they are having is that RBS claim that the file created by FMS that is sent to them is not in the correct format (the LEA says it works fine for Lloyds and the Co-Op). The finance department believe that it is because FMS isn't separating certain data entries with a comma. Has anyone else encountered this before? I find it difficult to believe that we are the only school in the country trying to make BACS payments to RBS through FMS!
