  4. Hello all, i've just purchased a rackmount server expecting it to just screw into the cab. But i've been advised i need a rackmount kit, is this the case?
  5. check the processor is properly seated, and try resetting the bios.
  6. TBH do whatever you like at uni mate, just pick the right one. Once into uni you'll be able to change courses fairly easily and most courses are modular. once you graduate (or come close to it) if you want to become a tech then your best bet is to look at the a+, n+ then mcp's to become a mcsa. Then get a decent job , dont worry to much about pay, but make sure the training and development is there.
  7. wasn't planning on it, but its local!, any details?
  8. you dont, it has a 1 minute warm up, and does 4pages per min. On a very good day, most days it wont work in the slightest.
  9. .. on this... what sort of "tweaking" does it require ? its mostly just changing the interfaces so they are how you like them, learning how to use it, setting up backups. It pretty much works out of the box, but it does pay to have a little fiddle with it.
  10. moodle takes about a week to get running smoothly. I'd recommend.
  11. it wont install 2 versions of outlook and word will reinstall everytime u load it, no matter which version.
  12. have a look in the bios.
  13. we use moodle, took a day to build, 2 weeks to beta and refine with head of ict and ongoing training provided by the curriculum staff ( its a curriculum tool afterall)
  14. Very interesting the attitude towards NM's in that thread, that we are there to serve the staff!. Very interesting view, Would be interesting to point out that we serve the staff on behalf of our SMT in the same way they serve the children on behalf of the SMT. Anyhoo, we dont allow staff access to areas unless they have a very good reason or one that the information manager believes is sufficent. Its not a case of data privacy its a case of data preservation. Each person has sole responsibilty for their workspace.
  15. its not as complete as you'd think, might be worth an ie reinstall.

  17. although they have individual channels the 11 (or 13) channels available will overlap. The optimum set up is to use 1, 6, and 11 in the same region as those 3 dont overlap each other. Best thing to do is use a product like netstumbler and walk around your school, see which areas have overlapping signal and rearrange your channels. The common symptons with overlapping channels are that the signal will show up strong, but the information passed to it will become distrorted ( think 2 tv signals on one channel). One ssid enables laptops to go from one ap to another almost seemlessly rather than having to reconnect.
  18. remove one of them, and change the channels on the remaining 3. One to channel 1, one to channel 6 and one to channel 11. might also be an argument for using one ssid and remocing the mac authenticion.
  19. I'd strongly agree with the poster above. 4 aps will almost be almost certian to cause a problem.
  20. i use a vbs script that opens word and autofills the footer with the logonname.
  21. they want to expand, they only wanted to go so far as oxford. Let me know when you have some kit, i've got kit to go as well, so they'll be more liekly to come out.
  22. for us department heads arrange purchase of laptops during budget. They apply for either a standard laptop, hi end laptop or a custom one ( music, graphics). Sometimes departments will have to trade in a laptop which is then passed onto another person. We buy laptops with a 3 year do what you like guarantee and insure them thought the schools insurance. After 3 years any repairs are charged to the department or if the laptop is written off it goes towards spares. There is no replacement policy so departments are encouraged to budget for a laptop after the third year, even if they dont actually buy one.
  23. same thing happened wiht me, not to worry, shall have another load ready for them in january!
