Getting staff to use an online helpdesk
strawberry replied to fafster's topic in How do you do....it?
the phones just an awful way of doing things. Its bad enough asking the users to type in an error message but how they expect you to deal with remembering all there details when your already on a job is unreal. If the school want rapid response they should commision a helpdesk sytem that will alert you in realtime with all the details of the problem. pda with gprs is ideal. -
school server support contract needed
strawberry replied to z4ydi's topic in Network and Classroom Management
that is reasonable, depending on the level of engineer they will send. Best thing to do is get different quotes from companies. Compare price to service offered. -
not available here, has too many security risks and everything that's there can be achieved by menu navigation.

exactly! i was explaining this to a teacher last week, that banning youtube and not google videos is just not right. Only difference is a teacher saw a rude word on youtube.

Help, Advice, Fancy taking somone under your wing?
strawberry replied to TornUp's topic in Educational IT Jobs
i bet its not as big a problem as you think it is!. There are many entry level jobs going and they often require less skill than you seem to have. the mcp's might help, be proactive, dont wait for funding, get a book, read it, find other resources (cbtnuggets, measureup, testout) and go for the exam once your happy!. -
dont know of a company, but this is something i've been looking at recently as well. With the eeepc its easy, you can create an image and distrobute it at will, 3 year warranty and 3 year insurance can be purchased cheaply. the problem you will have with the others is the software licensing, with windows based systems the best thing you can do is point parents at one of the cheap ms dealers but then they own it and pressure will be on you to maintain it!. I'd find a package of a decent pc and and a decent software company and advise that everyone buy insurance and an extended warrranty.

speak to a h+s rep and find out about things like safe temperature for a room and fire escape regulations if a room is redesigned. For desk size remember to allow enough room that a station can be right handed or left handed and allow enough room for desktop extras like scanners.

stick a huge file in the profiles to slow down the logon, change the dns address to a far away server or even better use the first dns address to use a fake dns server.
-
hmmm, not had much luck there, not clever enough to set up 2 websites on the same server!. Suprised moodle doens't have something like this built in.
-
shall give it a go in the morn! cheers fellas
-
Helllo all, would like to include a simple to use image gallery in moodle. have found the glossary module but would prefer to use something else. if nothings available can anyone recommend a simple setup to link to a moodle page?

I can introduce you to a chap who oversees the managed services of several acadamies, not sure he'll want to do anything less than a presentation though!

Is that the new rm minimine?
-
they'll either belong to you or rm, seeing as you still have possession of them and rm haven't indicated they want them back i'd imagine the payment has been made (which i asssure you is a much ebtter option than collecting all the original lease equipment which for us included cabling!!!) it might be worth a quick call to rm, but bear in mind that if something has gone wonky you might be stirring a hornets nest!.
-
at the end of the lease if the items aren't returned a final payment is made and the job lot are now your problem!.

sorry, i meant for the screen monitor side of it. it's best only for admin, its not really a teacher type product, for that i'd use ranger remote control. If you did want to use it its an exe file, but to see screens you only need admin to that pc, you dont need to deploy to it. in terms of remote control of screens it deploys vnc straight to the machine and you can then uninstall with a click of a button.

we have various scripts that we use on a new computer in a new computer ou. Once the computer is on the network we add it to the new computer ou, reboot it severaltimes and that installs all the software we need and does any of the other stuff we need (usefull for if a small fix is made when its not worth creating a new image)

whats that got to do with the ladies? its not even been cleaned up yet!
-
simple really, you goto post, get someone to check it, fill out the change control form, get it signed off, submit the post and wait 10 days for an indian tech to check and allow the post.
