  1. Hi, I have setup some roles for our users but noticed today that they cannot push out the client when right clicking the client. I would create a custom role but i cannot see the option needed. I presume it is nested beneath another option. Does anybody know which option i can use?
  2. Yes, Automatic Deployment Rule
  3. They are using a different subnet, so i could distribute the content that way. Will that mean that i can use an existing ADR for Endpoint updates?
  4. Hi, Quick question regarding distribution points in SCCM! I have never needed to use them until now, but we have three remote primary schools that are connected to our school via wireless point to point links. To save bandwidth, i would like to use a machine located at the school to distribute content such as windows updates and endpoint updates. But my question is regarding the deployment, can i add the distribution point to an existing advertisement and the remote clients will know to use the local point? Or does it have to use a separate advertisement that targets these remote machines and the specified distribution point int he school?
  5. I use the different approach and use WMI queries to setup my collections. We have three promary schools within our AD structure and machines are named using a two letter prefix for the school. So in my queries, i just look for the prefix with a wildcard. ICT rooms follow process by using the room name in the machines netbios name.
  6. Do you mean that it was automatically booting into PXE without F12? This will be the WDS from your SCCM server. Try looking at the settings within WDS and see what is selected. Make sure that the server is set to respond to F12, you could also set this to require authorisation from administrator. If you want to keep both servers running and responding, you can set the respond time for the sccm server to 5 seconds.
  7. Nice little chat to yourself there
  8. I use DPM and SCCM 2012 here. I have just started rolling out SCCM 2012 over our existing 2007 install, and got to say that the changes are quite dramatic. Things have got a lot easier and extremely useful in 2012 which I'm sure that a lot SCCM users can back me up. Yes, in 2007 things were boring and very difficult to get working, but that's all changed. The only issues I see at the moment from SCCM is SP1. A few bugs being created from it, but tell me a service pack that didn't bring bugs? SCCM is a beast, and you.do have to devote some of your life to get it working but well worth it. In terms of comparing to third party products, client cals are free as they are covered by my desktop licensing and server licensig costs £70 a year with SQL. This was for 2007 R3 at the time, I had my renewal yet.
  9. This is something that i didn't even know existed! Can i get a copy of that PDF or a link to it please?
  10. Hi, Just a note that Microsoft have released a Hotfix for error 0x800b0101 when installing the client. This error can be found in the CCMSETUP.log on the workstation. The hotfix link can be found below. Client Hotfix SP1
  11. Bet me to it @FN-GM Check your boundaries. I had issues with deployments etc. Then realised that i still had my test boundaries setup Also, look here for the location of log files and what they mean Log Files
  12. Definitely worth the effort! I have worked through windowsnoob guides and read other blogs to get my setup working
  13. I had something similar to this before where it asked for a particular SQL version. I manullay upgraded and found that it stilled complained. If memory serves me correctly, I think it turned out to be a reg key that had not been updated during the upgrade process. I manually changed the reg key value and the install worked fine. I can't remember the key but it is what is checked for installation to commence. Can we interegate the SQL version from WMI?
  14. Im not a subscriber to Technet but the Volume Licensing is showing the download as "with SP1". Will they put this on Volume Licensing portal or is it there but named differently?
  15. Hi, Im currently running SCCM 2012 along side my existing SCCM 2007 but with limited boundaries for testing. I have created a number of collections and created a few ADRs for Endpoint, Windows 7 Updates and Office 2010. This new feature is one of the best i have seen but i just wanted to see what other users of SCCM 2012 are doing for their updates? My current Windows 7 and Office updates run monthly on the second wednesday to pickup the Patch Tuesday updates, but by the following month, those updates would have been overwritten by the ADR rule that is in place or are appended? How do people cater for new machines that are built with a six month old image? I dont use OSD through SCCM yet but use MDT 2012 from a different server. Could i auto assign the machines to a collection where all these updates sit during the deployment? Thanks
  16. There are lots of different solutions available that have there pros and cons. We use GPP here and then use ILT to ensure the right print is set as default. We have also used Group Policy in the past, but you gave to make sure that the clients are in then correct OUs
  17. Are you using multiple NICs or just the one?
  18. Sound likes you may need to clear out the appdata
  19. I'm actually about to embark on the same journey as you as soon as the hyper v host has been setup. We currently use SCCM 2007 R3 and I'm excited to see all the changes to make life a lot easier. My resources are from Windows-noob.com, where MVP Niall has some really good tutorials. I find his step by step guides are great and he includes screenshots for each step. Here is part 1 of sccm 2012, just search for then other parts after this and by part 9, it will be over and setup http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/5452-using-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-part-1-installation-cas/
  20. Usually the VM time will be taken from the Host server. Do you have integration services enabled in the settings of the VM?
  21. Check the Start Menu for a program that comes with SmartNotebook 11 called SmartInk. Launch this and you should now be able annotate on different software. If this still does not work, then check its enabled in the new menu that appears in the far top right corner of the different software.
  22. Do you have SCCM?
  23. Generally this should not be an issue unless you refer to the servers IP address instead of its net bios name. Check and confirm the address used in your connect.INI file. You may need to check anything such as firewalls, av, backup etc. But generally most things will refer to the NetBIOS name. Just make sure you clear your DNS cache before testing your change
  24. I have had the same issue on loads of different servers. For a DC, you can edit the local config file so that you miss the BMR and just do a system state. This will then fix the issue with backing up the DC
