Microsoft no longer ship media. Your only way is to download the ISO from the Volume Licensing as stated earlier and burn to CD/DVD. Login here Manage My Agreements

We have TMG 2010 installed on our Virigin 50mb line which is A-Syncronous. At the moment we are experiencing very slow upload speeds of anything from 1.5MB to 5MB and download speeds at 48MB to 50MB. I have checked on Microsoft and apparently it is a known bug which can be fixed with applying SP1 Update 2. This update has been applied, along with SP1 and update 1 but I'm still experiencing slow upload speeds. Has anybody experienced this with TMG and resolved it?

I have resolved the issue.... Creating a GPO with the Point and Print features enabled under User Configuration / polcies / Administrative Templates / Control Panel / Printers. You will need to enable the following settings (When installing drivers for a new connection: Do not show warning or elevation prompt, When updating drivers for an existing connection: Do not show warning or elevation prompt) under the Point and Print Restrictions. The user will require a logoff and logon for changes to be picked up

We have a number of Brother 6050 printers in school and today we are receiving messages on the workstations stating that an updated driver is available and needs to be installed before the printer can be used. Nothing has been changed on the print server regarding these drivers, but a HP Laserjet driver was added yesterday to the server and has been since then that issues have arisen. We also noticed today that the driver used in the advanced tab of printer properties has been changed on all 6050 printers. None of my team has done this and we do not know why. We deploy printers via Print Management and GPO and have tried countless restarts GPupdates and the drivers will not install unless a member of my team with local admin rights logs on. The driver will then automatically install in the background and not prompt. I know we can do this site wide but would take too long. Has anybody got any ideas how we can resolve our situation. I have read about using Point and Print options in GPO's but would this resolve the situation.

We are currently using shared start menus at the moment for the entire school, and all shortcuts mare shown regardless of whether the software is installed or not. How can I only display shortcuts in the start menu for applications installed?

Internally, what address are your users connecting to access MySite?

Indeed you can delete all of the desktop.ini instances that appear in the users documents but they are re-created the next time the user logs on. The topic of the documents has been discussed on here in a number of threads with a number of different solutions. I believe the Windows 7 gotcha post that's pinned to the top of the windows 7 section documents the best solution, in that you create the user folder, named with the username and then create a sub folder called documents within here where their files are stored.

my recommendation is to not use "make available offline" on a network client. If you read many other threads, this service can cause a hell of a lot of problems. I experienced issues on my network for 4 months until we found out it was the offline file sync of windows 7. turn it off via GPO and dont use it!

@Gatt what is the scheduled deployment collection for?

a second vote to say MDT and WDS are really awesome! The only limitation that I find is thatthe workstations cannot be left in a room to build during atypical school day. This is because as the image finishes, the workstation will automatically logon as the local administrator account, join the domain and finish the lite touch scripts. I'm not sure whether this is a configuration item I have overlooked somewhere, but its not an issue as we simply pull the computer out to our build area for imaging. This is the reason why I'm looking into SCCM, which will give you zero touch image installation, with imaging in the class that finishes with the ctrl+alt+del screen.

That's good to hear! As I said above, I have only done the software title as of yet but had plans of using rooms as well to make things easier for remote support. I did find an interesting article about matching your collections to AD OU's, which would be even easier as this structure would give the ideal collection setup. Going to have a go today and will let you know the outcome.

We have SCCM R3 installed on our network and i'm pretty new to using it. I'm currently using SCCM for software installation, which i have learnt from various guides. My question is around the allocation of software to be installed by SCCM. What i have been doing is creating seperate collections for the diffrerent software and then adding computers to the collection. I could group these by department or even room if needed but before i install any more software, can somebody tell me whether this is one of the correct ways of allocating software through SCCM?

I finally got round to installing the SCCM Console today and it working a treat with reports able to be run remotely. One thing i had to get right though is the user rights at the bottom of the SCCM console. I found that a slight permission out of place caused a lot of issues but was resolved when full control was given out

Same here! I had hundreds of machines that listed the client as NO, but if i right clicked the workstation in collections and chose properties, i could see all the information about the machine. This lead me to believe that it was some issue with the reporting back of the client and just ignored it as software installation worked anyway

Same as BlackSheep! SCOM and SCCM installed but not working together as of yet. We had SCOM setup up for us as we were told of its integration with SCCM, but only just getting my head round SCCM at the moment and cant see how the SCOM is going to help

What can i do if my agreement falls short? We have had our reminders and currently awaiting quotes to come back but i do not want to sign up for a new agreement with the new licensing arriving a month later! -
Currently using MDT 2010 and WDS for image deployment. Just finished configuring software installation for our SCCM 2007 R3 so next task is to set up the zero touch installation!

Default Save As location for applications other than Office...
deano replied to kennysarmy's topic in Windows 7
That's really helpful Kenny! Been meaning to look into this for my network for a long time but other things have taken precedence. I knew about the Office 2010 ADM templates could resolve that issue but i did not know where to start with the hundreds of other different pieces of software! -
I had 5 different machines today with students having issues such as no documents, no start menu and no redirected desktop. After countless restarts and log ons, profile reset etc. we used the tip from Killer_bot. Logon as an administrative user of the machine. Search for Sync Centre and choose Offline files. Within the new window, choose disable offline files. The machine will then ask for a restart which you will need to carry out. Once restarted, all will be fine!!!!

Hi, Need to set default language for only student users using powershell. I have used the script to set individually and this works but need to do on mass for about 1300 users.

Hi, We have in house Exchange 2010 setup and being used in school. For students, i ran a powershell command to setup the default location and language so that they did not have to choose the option. Now though, when users try to access the ECP, they are shown the default language choice screen and when they click continue the page errors. Has anybody come across this problem?

Hi, We have Windows 7 vanilla domain and are having issues at the moment saving files as students. We have two different GPOs setup for staff and students. When aa staff member saves a file from the web using Save target As, they recieve a message about restrcition by administrator and then are shown the save box. As kids, the same thing happens except they do not see the save box after the error message. Where in the GPOs is this stated?
