  1. That was an old setup. the one i'm toying with at the moment is attached. We have a 16TB NAS connected via iSCSI and a 48 tape LTO Ultrium
  2. We use DPM 2010 here too and run short term to disk and then long term to LTO tape. The short term solution syncs as you suggest for 30 days and tapes are one every week, one every month and then one every year giving a Grandfather, Father, Son approach. Make sure you set up the alerts aswell. I have all alerts at different times but the best is the tape details. It alerts when tapes are ready to be removed from the drive and also alerts when certain tapes are needed.
  3. No, SP1 going on tomorrow morning so will see what happens
  4. Yes Internet Explorer and fully up to date with all relevant updates!
  5. Hi, We are running Windows 7 32Bit Enterprise and Exchange 2010 in which users are connecting to OWA. Majority of staff have no problems but one thing that keeps appearing for staff is the interactive functionality. Staff report that the Inbox opens but they cannot click anything on the page at all, but if you press F5 for the refresh the functionaility returns. Not sure where to go with this and what to search for on Google, any help much appreciated
  6. Hi, Can anybody tell me how i deploy the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and Aftereffects CS4? We have purchased the Adobe Production Suite CS5 and using the CS4 freebie with the package it will not generate an MSI. According to documentation the deployment creates two files called AdobeUberInstaller.exe and AdobeUberInstaller.xml How can i deploy these without the MSI? CS5 creates MSIs from the Adobe Toolkit but you cannot do this with CS4!
  7. Hi, We are successuly using MDT 2010 in my school for image deployment. At the moment though we have to remove the PC from the room to image as when its finished, the machine will auto login as local administrator and finish some scripts. Is there any way we can stop this or even another solution to auto log off??
  8. Sorry to hijack thread, bu have you experienced an issue with orientation of SMARTboards when not logged in as local admin. We are having to go round all PCs and orient boards for staff because there changes are not being saved! Anybody experienced this?
  9. Alan Richards has a post on installation. Check his blog out on Edutechnow.com
  10. Hi, We are experiencing a real weird issue around the entire site and from what we can see, it is totally intermittent. Symptom of Issue Students log onto workstations around the school, on different types of machines all with the same Windows 7 Enterprise image. The ideal logon would be to have a redirected start menu, desktop and documents which are all located on our file server. Most of the time students logon with no issue but randomly we get some users who may not receive one of the three or possible none. We have been able to identify that the issue does not relate to a particular user, workstation etc. The reason that this is weird, is that the same user can move location to another PC in the room and the logon works. Other users may then go to the faulty machine and use it with no issues with redirection. Event viewer logs show the redirection has access denied and yet permissions are set correctly as we set them via a group. Testing After some testing we have managed to replicate the issue by logging onto a machine as a student and then just as you get past the welcome message, pull out the network cable. Upon doing the above, the test student will experience the issues stated. We have then tried restarting the PC on numerous times and yet the student still recieves no redirection of any kind even after removing the local profile. Another interesting issue we have seen is that when the student recieves this problem, we have tried accessing the File Server and shares for desktop through explorer but recieve access denied!! HELP We are now at the end of our tether and staff/students are getting really frustrated as we have no fix for them when the issue occurs other thatn to move pc. We are now thinking its image related?? Setup Windows 7 Enterprise workstations using same sysprep image Windows Server 2008 R2 Servers over Hyper V Blades on 172 address range with VLANs Workstations on 192 address range so not to affect CCTV and VOIP. Core switch has Helper address for two networks
  11. Hi, Recently had a vanilla domain installed and working through our small issues. At the moment students and staff are using IE but are unable to access the favourites. They recieve access is denied. This means people are unable to add favourites but cant see where any GPOs i have added remove this access ?
  12. We found that a number of older machines required BIOS upgrades before rolling out the upgrades. Another thing to point out is that we have a mixture of new CISCO kit and old HP ProCurve. We have noticed a significant difference between the two types when it comes to imaging. The CISCO can cope with multiple access to the deployment shares and multicasting, whereas the HP show fatigue after 10 or so machines are running. Can the wait take 5 minutes even with one machine?
  13. Could you not create a reference image and deploy that to the workstations instead of deploying software through MDT?
  14. Hi ppl, We have recently moved to a new domain with existing users migrated from server 2003. At the moment staff and students have a default password, what I want is a tool or a way to create unique passwords for users which can then be put into a mail merge do we can give them out. I know that tools exist but just wondering which people recommend and/or FREE
  15. Hi ppl, I have vanilla domain with server 2008 r2 and windows 7 clients. I'm currently using MDT for deployment of a standard image and intend on adding specific packages for rooms via GPO. My problem is that when I assign the package, upon reboot of the client, I simply get please wait. There is no status of what is being installed. Can this be changed anywhere?

  17. In my previous school (upto April 2010), i had Easynet providing a 10MB line which served 325 workstations and 150 laptops. During this time we never lost service but were covered by a backup ADSL line just in case. In all the time, i never had any complaints of any speed issues for upload/download and could never fault the service. Engineers on the other end of the phone were always pleased to help and were able to make all changes that we requested, given a good reason!
  18. Hi, To keep costs and workload to a minimum, i would like to utilise virtualisation. We currently have an in house ESX server that is currelty only running a SQL server and SharePoint server. What i would like to do is setup a mini network in a classroom for staff to come in and try the new O/S and get familiar before we change over. My issue arises because i do not want to take over an IT room completely and take it out of action as well as messing around with cables and switches so it creates its own network. My ideas were to run a virtual server on the ESX setup up with the new GPOs etc and then virtualPC Windows 7 for the training on each PC. This would obviously mean that we would have to copy and install images on all of the PCs. Could we not create an image of a Windows 7 PC on the ESX and connect remotely using some type of viewer from each PC? Would we also cause issues running another domain temporarily next to the existing? Has anybody got any simple solutions?

  20. Hi, I have started work at a new school and they utilise an RM D2D2T server for curriculum and exchange backups. At the moment the entire network is in plans for complete replacement in August so i need to keep everything ticking by until the then. I have no prior knowledge of D2D2T and at the moment we are getting scratch media for any tapes that are inserted into the carousel. We have tried a new tape but we get the same thing
  21. Hi, I have recently made a change to the SIMS setup as we have moved from Bromcom to SIMS.net in classrooms. I map S Drive for staff and hide it at the same time. SIMS runs perfectly fine along with FMS and staff are members of a group with full access. The problem we are having at the moment is that staff cannot print timetables as they get an error of Access Denied from TTPRINT.exe. Does anybody know why this is or know of any special permissions required for some other locations?
  22. We are thinking of rolling back to 7.0 as we have major issues when printing from 9.1 The file prints first page then stops, can print 5 or so pages and then stop or simply does nothing

I definitely recommend Windows Home Server, but it can be overkill if its simple file sharing you require. Check some blogs out such as mswhs.com for more info
  24. The school I look after is CC3 and we use SIMS. We originally used Bromcom but we moved from them to start a trial for the council on SIMS Learning Gateway. At the moment, the behaviour is not accesible as a web part which means we have not had any behaviour reporting since September. We were hoping to see the web part introduced in october but now we have been told it has been put back until September 2010. The school wants to install SIMS into each classroom to use lesson monitor and continue to use SLG for marksheets. My problem is that I currently have the admin server setup with a trust relationship and each workstation that currently requires SIMS for admin, has the member of staff set as priveledged user. My thoughts are to map an S drive using RMMC to the admin server, create a shortcut to the sims app when installed on each workstation manually, add each staff member to the trust relationship so they use the share and they should be able to run. Does this sound correct? Or is there an easier altenative that somebody has implemented?
  25. Its quite simple really to understand the concept of the modules. I used Photoshop to create my template but something like Fireworks will do the same. You need to first specify a size for screen res on the Onelan box for your plasmas. I cannot remember what we did but i think it was 1280 x 8xx i think. You then need to create a new document in your editing program and make sure its the same size as your screen res set. Now you create the design how you want but make sure that you do not put too much on as this is for info and should not be cluttered. Once the design is complete, you need to bring on the rulers and add soe guide lines. From the guide lines you will be able to work out the exact pixel from top and left for placement of the modules. You then just need to add the module and play text and background colours
