Thanks Conrad, I do not get any error messages. When I start the Cisco VPN from home it works and tells me I am connected to the school but I don't seem to be able to go anywhere from there until I start a remote connection from my computer and enter the fixed iP of my school PC. That works fine provided it is switched on and no-one else is logged on to it. I set up the VPN exactly as instructed by the school ISP. Steve

Hi Rob, Our ISP told me the same and I thought I had it configured according to county procedures. If two people tell me the same thing it has to be right!! I can connect using the VPN providing I use RDP but can't do it using the VPN alone. I must be doing something wrong. The question is what??? Thanks for your support with this. Steve

Somehow I feel like this is a dumb question. I am using a Cisco VPN. I can get through the gateway into school from my home PC and I can access my school PC (providing it is switched on and no-one is logged on to it) and then logon to the network in the normal way. My PC has a fixed IP address and I use that when starting a Remote Desktop connection from my home computer. My question is, can I set up the remote connection so that I can get to a specific drive on the network without having to first logon to my school PC?? Thanks,

I now have this working after lots of effort but mainly because of your advice. I think the kb was the key but did the other bits as well. Won't get a proper test until after the hols but looking good. A thousand thank-you's !!

I can't get my xp clients to retain printer connections after a user logs off. When they logon again the printers have disappeared from the 'add printers' view. I've tried lots of thing through deployment using Group Policy including the 'pushprinters.exe.' but printers don't seem to deploy to xp although it seems ok on win7. The printers are on the network and working fine. Any ideas appreciated thanks, Steve

Thanks James, What I mean is that they can get the same profile wherever they logon. It is a standard desktop etc. but needs to be the same whichever machine they log on to. We have used this with all xp machines for ages on server 2003 so I'm unsure how to mix in with windows 7. Steve

I am installing a new server 2008 and creating a clean network. All our roaming mandatory profiles work fine with xp but I want to introduce some windows 7 laptops as well. Our users need to be able to switch between xp and windows7 computers but be able to roam with a mandatory profile on either. This seems a bit complicated from what I have read. Is there a simple way to do this? Thanks,
