I don't think it is misleading - the Axel clients do not have an O/S, they simply have Firmware. Think of it as an extended version of a PC BIOS, but with RDP/CITRIX etc built in to the BIOS. NO operating system needs to be installed on top of this "super BIOS" and none is. Butuz

Zero clients are a great idea. Why use a cut down version of windows or linux installed on a flash card, when you can use some ultra efficient firmware integrated into the device itself. The first Zero client I tried was an Axel M70w and I knew then that this was a big step over normal, fat thin clients (?!!!) like HP/Wyse etc. Near instant set up, and near instant boot up and shut down made me go yay!!! The M80 I have here is even better as it can actually play video! I also have two Sun Ray clients ready to test out but I have not had a chance to set up Solaris and the server back end. Annoying as I cant wait to give them a go! Zero = Hero baby! The HP fat thin clients I have here are now totally outdated in my eyes, and use a gargantuan 15watts each. Yuk! Butuz

I've got a 2510G-48 from CP LTD as my core switch here and to be honest it's doing pretty darn well considering how cheap they are!!!. If it does me as a core switch it should do you as an edge switch very nicely! Butuz

Right - you need to sort out the root cause first: Conficker. Confricker infection is purely down to workstations and servers not being patched correctly via windows update. Conficker will automatically affect any PC or Server that does not have Microsoft KB958644 patch installed. Any PC that has conficker will automatically broadcast the virus out to any other PC that is not patched. How to identify which PC/Servers have conficker: Download Nmap Comand Line version and run a scan on your domain controller. This will identify any PC's that are definatly affected. How to remove conficker from your network in 4 Easy Steps: 1) Install KB958644 on every server and PC. Install it on all your servers first. Best way on PC's in a large network would be to run it "quietly" via start up script. Restart all your PC's NB. This stops the PC from being re-infected with conficker - it does NOT actually remove conficker itself. Now they are all protected from being infected by conficker (though they still may actually have it and be able to spread it) 2) Run Microsoft Malitious Software Removal tool (kb890830) Run this on your servers first. Best way on a large network would be run it "quietly" via start up script. This actually detects and removes Conficker (any many others) and is a super bit of software. Restart all your PC's. Now as long as they are also patched with KB958644 they will be immune to conficker. 3) Run Nmap again and hopefully you should now find that no computers are flagged as being definatly affected. They will however be flagged as being possibly affected, this is because they have already been affected in the past even though they are clean now. No way to get round this without a format c: 4) Enable windows updates on all server and PC's so you dont have this situation again!!! Hope this helps! Butuz

If Vlan 1 is your Primary Vlan then by default all ports will be untagged on Vlan 1. You then untag ports on Vlan 2 that are going to be used for that vlan only. Then on Vlan 2 you tag the port(s) that are going to be uplinks to other switches. Do the same on each of your switches. You've now got your uplink ports able to carry traffic from both vlan 1 and vlan 2 whilst still keeping the vlans virtually seperate. Kinda like this: As you can see all curriculum ports are untagged on Vlan 1. All admin ports are untagged on vlan 2. All uplink ports are Untagged on Vlan 1 and Tagged on vlan 2. Butuz

Excellent!!!! Thanks for the quick replies!! Sounds like replication is what I need. Yes I to am very interested in how replication will work on live VM's? Will I have to shut down all my VM's in order to perform a "replication"? How does it work on VM's?! I think I'll start off with a schedule of replication each night and see how that goes - if it works well I may try continuous replication! To be honest I didn't expect automatic failover and will be happy to manually fail over to the other san if one should god forbid fail. Even with manual failovers - this is going to give us a level of data protection waaaaay beyond what we had previously as I will be combing the SAN replication with anormal disk to tape backup of all the VM's. Hey Guys. What mirroring / redundancy options are available on a pair of 7110 2tb SANs? I originally bought a pair of these SAN's based on a project that was to create a new building with a second server room and have a SAN in server room building 1 and a san in server room building 2 and both of them mirroring - but the entire new building plan got shelved, and so I am left with both SAN's in the same rack of my only server room. *sigh* Not ideal!!! But better than nothing. This storage is only being used for VM's over NFS. (no CIFS or iSCSI). So what do you knowledgable guys thing is the best way for me to configure it so that my VMs are mirrored across both SANS so that if one san does go down I will be able to access the VM's off the second SAN straight away. I see in the interface there is "Replication" and also on the filesystem there is "Snapshots" but I don't know what does what. This is what I am aiming for. Can it be done? I have not had time to do proper research into getting this configured on 7110, I have 6 big projects on at the moment as well as the day to day stuff, and Offstead in in January. As you can imagine I am struggling somewhat!!!! If anyone can help me my giving me the lowdown or idiots guide on this - I will be most greateful. Cheers! Butuz

Log on as the local admin, go to Start, Administrative Tools, Computer management, Local Users and Groups, Groups. Double click on Administrators and make sure your domain admin group is added in there - e.g you should have something like this listed: Administrator DOMAINNAME\Domain Admins If you only have administrator in there and not your domain's domain admins group that will explain your problem! Not on CC4 myself but I would assume that you could simply edit the Scratch.ini in the package on the server's and then de allocate and re allocate the package so that alll workstations get the new .ini? Butuz
