Im trying to cost up us buying our new licenses next year . I dont want to ring up any agents for quotes as we dont want to buy till late next year so will just be a waste of there time . has any one this year already had quotes for buying licenses this year ? If so could you give me a general cost for buying these We require 4x 2008 Server Standard 64bit OS 250x - device cals 1x Exchange ( latest ) 64bit 250x Device cals . 250x Office 2010 If any one could give me the price they maybe paid this year or last to actually BUY the licences , would be great . I am trying to do a 5 year budget plan so its all guess work really. Just to be clear we want to BUY . No annual renewal .

I would be careful with them Its service costs - Item Worth 9/10 You will end up oweing them money unless your equipment to them is worth a lot !

require a vbscript or bat to do the following I need a vbscript to copy from a network share a shortcut to all local profiles on a machine in the 'start menu' . I cant copy it to the allusers 'start menu' as the mandatory profiles will pick it up so they will have two shortcuts there . also copying it to the default profile wont work as the local profiles have already been created . Any one got one lying around ? so it can save me the hassle of making one ! Many thanks luke

And Also change the following ? Obviously replaced some of the sesnsitve info with server. Under quotaservers where i have listed the drive as 'J:' . Is this refering to the virtual mapped drive of HAP or the real drive letter that the shares are on ? ALso installed the service on the server

I done one of these 'good wills' once. basically a neighbour wanted her Laptop setup ! and had no idea howto and didnt know any one who could. As we are in a road full of house we decided i would go over 'once' after numerous phone calls and a offer of a donation. Heres a few things to do 1.) If doing this in school time 'Do not accept cash' when offerd . 2.) Do not give them your mobile ( unless you want some private work for penuts ) 3.) Give them the phone number of a £50-£70 a hour friend . State if you was to do it , it would cost £90 a hour + call our charge 4.) state you are doing this as a ' one off ' as you are extremely busy . Do all the above and you wont hear from them again.

they work like this 1.) User logs onto machine 2.) user pulls Profile off of Server and is created into a personal local profile 3.) any changes made to this profile are not kept 4.) when the user logs off the profile is deleted Mind you does not always work out . Sometimes it does not remove the profile fully and if you goto document and settings and look at the folders you will see multiple instances of user accounts i.e. 2097.1 , 2097.2 etc We use the Hive clean up service and a Script at startup which deletes all profiles on the desktop that Begin with 06/07/08/09 and 10 ( wouldnt want it deleting the staff local profiles )

If you have a AD structure . Say Each room has there OWN OU It would be quite easy to do this . I would probally recomend writing a PHP script to use the already created Login Tracker script. The login Tracker script already shows you how many people are logged on in each room ( OU )

Actually done this my self yesterday as my database had only 500mb Left On the computer that is running Exchange 2003 SP2, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Click one of the following registry subkeys, as appropriate for the store that you want to increase: For a mailbox store, click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Server name\Private-Mailbox Store GUID For a public folder store, click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Server name\Public-Public Store GUID On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. In the New Value #1 box, type Database Size Limit in Gb, and then press ENTER. Right-click Database Size Limit in Gb, and then click Modify. Click Decimal, and then type an integer from 1 to 75 in the Value data box. Reset the store service after doing this . No need to restart the server Hopefully will sort it out for you

are you sure its not the backup software causing exchange to crash ? I imagine you have the backups set for a nighly backup ?

try and stay away from IIS and go for apache . Stick with Joomla . If you was to ever leave its a lot easier for some one to manage a joomla site VLE with tie in with AD easy. Unsure why you want another Internet connection ? Your current provider should be able to set you up with everything you require.

The reason im doing the upgrade is that this server when i first got here only uses 3.25gb of ram - even though it has 6 gigs and another 6 gigs i bought with it being standard it can only use a max of 4gb but the x86 version of enterprise can some how use more memory (up to 16gb) this will allow me to lower the page file size and speed up everything . I can upgrade to server 2008 . But That wont be untill all our clients are windows 7 . Or atleast all the I.T. Rooms

Has any one changed from server 2003 standard to Enterprise by upgrading and not installing everything from scratch ? It is a DC running AD , DNS , DHCP etc Also exchange 2003 standard i think Not looking to run into any problems but you never know !

bit hard to understand but where is the redundancy ? Surley some one taking a line of fibre shouldnt take down the whole countrys Internet ? Or have i read this wrong..

our music dept is also on our standard network . We run Cubasis ( Cubase old version ) Audacity and Sibelius All seems to run fine . Does help the machines having dedicated Sound cards soundblaster and the keyboards work well together
