(ml310 G5) link HP ProLiant ML310 G5p Tower Server - Misco.co.uk leaving lots of money left over for drives etc however you have said sharepoint. so you are idealy looking at sas drives and a decent box. (ml350 G6) HP ProLiant ML350 G6 Tower Server - Misco.co.uk leaving a bit ofr drives and memory.

Ok the time of year has arrived when I have to think of projects to bid for. Currently we have well maintained servers (no need to upgrade them) Other than planned upgrade of workstations (no need to bid for more) Currently running windows 2008 r2 and windows 7 (no need to bid for more money on that behalf) Have good home access solutions (no need to bid) Have some signage but (will bid for more.) Have open wifi hotspots (will bid for more of these) Thought about thoutch screens? My question really is has anyone else got any thoughts of added extras that would enhance the school that I can’t think of? Maybe a TV studio…. Any other random suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Peronsoaly if you are a well established school. i would say the "trinkaty" e.g. laptop for everyone aproach. or simply the internet speed/cost is going to hit home as more and more aplications/media streaming is required.

just add a raid card and have 2 x 1tb mirrored. cost effective and masses of storage. nas boxes are very good but how would you controll permissions on them properly in this environment (obviously without going to the high end ldap integrated nas boxes)

If you are looking for redundancy, openfiler with redundant second box. We use openfiler (slightly tweaked) doing this and works perfectly can reboot individual storage boxes and no iscsi connection is affected.

i agree. 1400 students. 10 sata drives raid 5. excellent performance. much better than the old 15k sas.

Paging files is another good monitor. Average disk queue is probably the most important. If this is high then sas would be beneficial. sas would not be over kill for the c drive or even roaming profiles if you can aford it. However for the small number of users sata would be far more cost effective specially if raided.

i would stay well away if your a school. we have had great difficulty getting them to process our sertificate request. over 3 months and on the 10th atempt.

We have EMBC. Good filtering - if not too good. (Admin interface to unblock sites) Meant to have a 10mb symmetric link, for 700 pc's. Simply not fast enough. Drops out allot at night. We also have a 10mb DIA line from NTL. More expensive but 1000% worth it.

Was actually caused by the main uplink from met net in london having a problem. (problem is still there) however midlands/above are being routed round.

Yup i have done a very similar process to upgrading our exchange box. acronis will do this perfectly. :-)

I am using Exchange 2010. Upgraded month back. Runs very nice not much difference from 2007 uses slightly more ram yes even more than 2007. less cpu. has some nice new features for managing user accounts. other than that no difference from 2007. Well from the user point of view.

Try the HTC HD2....
