Hi Everyone, At our primary school we have year group logins e.g. yr5, yr6 etc. Years 5 & 6 have been given Net Books. The Net Books are really for research in classroom; saving work to mapped drives on the file server / domain controller (they have been added to the domain). When Yr5's and 6 want to use RM Maths they go to the ICT Suite where RM Maths is installed on 30+ pc's (all pc's on the domain and RM is networked). The Year group logins have redirected Desktops and Start Menu’s. With this setup it is a little untidy when they log into the Net Books they have shortcuts (RM Maths and MS Office 2003) that don't work and aren't needed. I think one solution would be to have different Desktops & SMs based on the computer they are logging into. Does anyone know or can they point me in the direction of some info on how to do this? Hi, I look after the IT at a Primary School this year we have almost used all the space on the server. IIRC its an old IBM server (x series 206) with RAID 1 and a capacity of 70GB. I think C:\ is ~20 GB with 5 GB free and D:\ ~50GB with 1GB free. I don't think there is much money available and a new server isn't financially viable at this point. Ideally I'd like to add the storage internally on the server but if there are good arguments for Storage Servers, NAS and Ext HDD then I could be pursuaded. I was think of just adding a IDE 500GB HDD inside the server and making sure it was backed up properly but obviously this doesn't have the protection that comes with being part of a RAID array. Does anyone have any thoughts? Many Thanks

I recently started to support a Primary School network for 3 hours per week. They currently have an IBM xSeries Server running 2003 with 1GB of RAM. They have ~20 desktop and ~30 vista business laptops. They are intending to purchase 60 netbooks and have a wireless infrastructure instructure installed. I'm not sure what kind of wireless system to advise them to get; I'm thinking they need a managed solution as I'm only there 3 hours a week and they can ring a third party if they get problems. The other unrelated issue i'd like advise on is WSUS; they currently have only one server (no plans to get another) which is the dc but it also runs WSUS which is quite heavy on it's resources. WSUS hasn't been touched for over a year and many security patches need approving as well as other issues. I'm thinking of removing WSUS and letting all the desktops/laptop get their windows updates once a week by leaving them on overnight once a week (probably the night before my visit) is this a good idea?
