File Server low on space - best course of action?
Iain.Faulkner replied to bandgeekmafia78's topic in Hardware
Have you got limits set on users home drives etc? -
Not my school, but one local to me. Bramhall High | Staff Vacancies I know the NM there, he's a good guy, always been happy to help me out when I've sent out pleas :-)
-
I really want to see this :-) Hope he brings it up north :-)

This has been one of my jobs for the summer, setting up our first school intranet site. I've done it in Sharepoint 2010, and it's looking pretty good. Wasn't too difficult to configure either. I'd be interested to know (apologies for the thread hijack) what other people have on their intranet? Currently I've got things like the staff phone list, access to e-mail, access to the VLE

Ours is frightening on the petrol, costs a fortune to go anywhere!

I've got one (see pics) :-) Ours costs less than £400 per year to insure, that includes full european breakdown cover. We've used ours plenty this year and she's been very reliable for us. She has the odd quirk, but then I think they all do :-) They don't half cost a fortune to maintain though! We got ours on ebay :-)

Time to make a return to this thread :-) As I've said, I started trying to lose weight in earnest at the beginning of this year and was doing pretty well. However a couple of health issues meant I couldn't go to the gym for quite some time so weight loss kind of went on hold... However, I've been off the booze for a couple of weeks and been back at the gym and weight watchers, and this week I had another 4lb's off and have now lost 2 stone 1.5lbs from my heaviest approximately 2 1/2 years ago :-) It's taken a while, but it's progress. Still no real goals for me, other than to keep a steady downward trend :-)

Other than a week booked off, I'm here all summer as well...loads to do though, even though we've bought no new kit this year!

It came as part of the bundle when I bought my megadrive.....it was actually a good game :-) Anyone remember Striker on the Snes? Quality football game :-)
-
So many old games that I still love and still have to get out my NES, SNES, Megadrive etc to play :-) Sonic the Hedgehog Super Mario Brothers Super Mario Brothers 3 Golden Axe Colin the cleaner (zx spectrum game, my first foray into the world of gaming) Michael Jackson's Moonwalk (don't ask) Mortal Kombat Theme Hospital Donkey Kong Country Mario Kart the Dizzy series and probably hundreds more :-)

We've done exactly the same as others that have posted, left Viglen about 2 years ago and have never looked back. The only thing we do differently, is we use Salamander for our user creation. It sits there and when a person is added into Sims Salamander automatically creates them an AD account :-) Just in case you don't know, Classlinks classroom management is actually a product called Netsupport which we've bought back in. Still a quality product which some additional features that aren't available in Classlink/Ranger/RM Tutor. Only advice on this, is to go to Netsupport directly for a quote.

I wish our head was this open to alternatives :-(

Olympic Ticket Allocation - What did you get?
Iain.Faulkner replied to elsiegee40's topic in General Chat
I've got my ticket for the Beach Volleyball :-) -
Afternoon all, Got a weird problem with an Epson Aculaser c4000. Essentially it seems to be leaking blue/cyan toner onto the right hand side of any page that it prints. The leakage isn't constant and looks different on each page, so I don't think there is something on one of the rollers or anything. I've swapped the fuser and the toner cartridge but things haven't improved. Anyone seen this before, how did you resolve it?

Network Manager Post in Audenshaw - Tameside Excellent Salary
Iain.Faulkner replied to ctbjs's topic in Educational IT Jobs
Morning all, Just wondered if anyone else on here had applied for this besides me? Given they were looking for someone to start asap (according to the application pack anyway) I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything about interviews.... -

Afternoon all, Bit of an urgent one this. Teacher wants to use an image created using wordle for tomorrow's lesson (we have ofsted in, so ask no more :-) )but we keep getting hit by an error. Image creates ok, but once you save it to the public gallery you can't view it anymore. The error we get is "Not in GZIP Format". I've never come across this before, has anyone seen this? I've updated java on the machine in question, but still get the same. It does, however, work when logged on as me. So it may be an access right issue. I'm particularly interested in anyone who's had this problem that uses smoothwall. Apparently this used to work a few months ago the last time she used it, but since then we have installed smoothwall and I'm wondering if there is something I need to setup there to allow this through. Any suggestions, as always, are greatly appreciated.

Ofsted are in today and tomorrow...everything seemed quiet on the Western front..... Starts to rain, and rains extremely heavily most of the morning and the drains flood, spilling into the corridors, leaving half the school underwater....just what we needed.

Thanks for the link on that, that could prove very useful. I don't suppose anyone has a guide to setting up exchange for allowing mobile devices to pick up email? I would love to be able to offer this facility to our staff (as the majority of them have smart phones), but am not sure where to start with regards setting up activesync?

Have a look at the Ergo Securedesk, they give the functionality you require, but the PC itself is actually built into the desk as well. I've seen them installed in a few places and they always look very neat.

Afternoon, Slightly weird group policy issue. I've got one PC in a room of 31 which won't apply group policies. Essentially I'm trying to rollout Adobe CS5 in the room and every other machine has picked it up fine. I've tried renaming the PC, adding it to a different OU etc but still nothing. Any suggestions?

Afternoon all, Strange one this. One of our users has reported that a weird black line has appeared on her screen (see screenshot for example). This black line is visible on any application, and can even be seen if you are simply viewing the desktop. The line is also visible when projecting through the room's digital projector. The PC is connected to a Smartboard and is running the latest version of the smartboard software. The line doesn't appear if another user logs on. Any ideas?
