Ok, back to this :-) In 2007, I could use interactive buttons to call the new form for a particular list. In 2010, I do not have the option of using "interactive buttons" only asp.net or html. As I've said before, I am a complete newbie to this sort of thing and I have no idea how to set up the events on a button to get it to do what I want....any suggestions?

Training? What's that? Don't we just know everything already? Unfortunately, we're the same as most, we spend absolutely nothing on training. We ask every year, we put business cases together (having been asked to provide information), but because of the costs of the courses we require we get told each time that the money isn't available (apparently we would use up about 60% of the whole school training budget igf we went on the courses we want). It kind of makes the yearly appraisal/PDR a bit pointless given there is a whole section entitled "Training Needs"..... I've just been in talks with the school, offering to pay for the courses myself, all I am asking from them is to be able to take the time off work (not out of my holiday entitlement) to attend the courses, but have been told "no" again as the number of days I would require is more than any other member of staff would get in an average year. How am I supposed to improve!?!? anyway, rant over :-)

Multi-user basically means that you can give individual people their own account to access and use Schoolcomms. If you go for the single user, it means although you can allow as many as you like to use it, they all sign on as the same user and only one can access the software at once.

Looks like you can actually pay the intouch installation over 3 years, so comparing costs to schoolcomms (as that's the only other quote I have at the moment) it's actually pretty much the same as paying for the multiuser license.

Agreed, if we are able to put something like this in place, then to have multi-user would be a definite advantage for auditing purposes. I do like Intouch, having spent some time with Capita at Bett2011 looking at the demo's. Does anyone know though if it will do anything like the achievement postcards (type thing) that Schoolcomms offer?

That's interesting, based on a single user license, the quote I've got from Schoolcomms for annual maintenance is cheaper than Intouch.

I wish our Head was thinking this way, I'm currently fighting to get something like this in place but she's not keen. I looked at InTouch and was shocked by the £3k installation fee!

Took the plunge and upgraded to Sharepoint 2010. Although I've taken a backup of the site I was building, I'm starting again from scratch (as I believe the experience will do me good). I do have one issue though (alongside my ongoing issue with not being able to set permissions as mentioned previously!), I no longer seem to be able to do any work in Sharepoint Designer (I am currenty running 2007 though so I don't know if that's the cause). It's telling me that editing using SPD is disabled in my site...... any suggestions? I've checked the central administration site and it looks like it's all enabled.

I'm already having sleepless nights, I wake up in the middle of the night either in a cold sweat or shouting Eureka as I've just worked out in my head why a list won't display the way I want it to! To be honest, there's no real reason why I've chosen MOSS2007 over SP2010. Thinking about it, I'm tempted to upgrade to SP2010, but do you know if a template site created in 2007 will be usable in 2010?

This is how I believed it was done. However when I go into the list, and go to list settings (by clicking on the list, then settings, list settings) I look under a column with the header of "General Settings" there is an option for advanced settings, however there is nothing about editing your own items....... am I looking in the wrong place?

Morning all, Still trying to get my head round sharepoint :-) I'm trying to set permissions on items held within particular lists so that staff members can add to the list and edit their own items but no-one elses. At the moment it seems that my only two options are to allow them read (which means that they can't add something new or edit items) or contribute (which allows them the ability to add, delete and edit everyone's items). Anyone got any idea how I might achieve this?

Exactly the same for me, I find this really difficult. What I hate though is when suppliers won't take no for an answer as well and keep coming back! I'm currently in the process of switching consumable supplier, and one potential supplier just won't take no for an answer. They've sent me through three different set of quotes so far and still cannot get near my preferred suppliers pricing, but they're still going to send me another one. How do I get rid of them without being plain nasty to them (it's really not in my nature to be nasty to people)?

I think Sharepoint just likes having hissy fits full stop :-) You've got me very intrigued by your last comment, are you in a Stockport School as well?

I'm still working on getting weight off, I haven't set myself any long term targets, I'm just wanting to keep losing weight at this point (although I may reevaluate where I want to get to when I get to 36lb's off)

Think I'm making some progress with this now, thanks irsprint. Able to remote desktop to the server using its IP address, and I'm also now able to access my site via IE using the IP address again. Just added an A record to DNS, and we'll see what happens.

Thought I'd post a quick update. Weighed in last Tuesday, lost another 5lbs which takes me to a whopping 18lb total weight loss since January 2nd 2011 and means I am now 29lb's lighter than I was at my absolute highest. Been a frustrating few weeks though, doctor has told me to cut down my exercise as I'm overdoing it and have pulled a ligament in the top of my leg :-( Hope to be back on it soone though, in the meantime I just have to be even more careful about what I eat (and play more golf, as that's classed as ok exercise :-) )

I've put the official red nose day wallpaper up on everyone's desktop.......other than that, not a lot happening here. We do have some people wearing one item of red clothing though.

Evening all, I'm having a bit of a play with Sharepoint and I've hit a bit of a problem. Setup is Windows Server 2008, and I'm running Sharepoint Server 2007 with SP2. I've installed Sharepoint and on the server itself I can acces sit and make changes, create sites etc, but i'm struggling to access it from a standard desktop. Interestingly, although I don't know if this is connected or not, I can't remote desktop directly to the server either whether I try to do it via IP or by server name. I've checked the remote desktop settings and they all seem fine, but still nothing. Has any Sharepoint Guru's got any possible suggestions as to what might be causing these problems?

Can I ask who your training provider is? £1500 sounds very cheap for MCITP level training, particularly 18 days of it.
