can't you just block it's connection to the internet thus rendering it unusable?

I've used ehcp for this: http://ehcp.net/ It basuclly set the server up a normal hosting type server. Students can then aget access via ftp, phpmyadmin and the all the normal tools

I believe it only works with 2.2. you could always upgrade your phones to 2.2. You could flash exsting phones to upgrade them. if you were going to swap out to windows mobile you could just swap out to phones running android 2.2 instead. although seeing windows phone series 7 series phone windows seems to be failing to set the world alight you might find you could get a good deal on them.

no sorry by bad - you need to add the line to grub when booting from the server. If you can't get to grub on the server then best bet is to do as Los0jos suggests and reinstall grub

try adding 'apci=off' to your grub when it boots. when grub loads you press 'e' i bleieve to go into edit mode and then add to the end of the line and follow the onscreen instructions to boot it

you could try the community version of alfresco or something like open artrium: Open Atrium but hosting vital resources + windows xp + decommissioned server sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. At least get windows server ed or ubuntu on there

you probably need to start looking at third party stuff such a backup exec. I'm not sure how good support for vmware server 2 is though as they are aimed more at the esx market. Snap shots are really only designed to create an quick backup before you make a change. You then see if that changes has worked correctly and if it has delete the snapshot. if it hasn't then you revert. You shouldn't really be using snapshots as a form of backup

I'd take a look at some jobs site and then decide to learn php. If you want to go down the 'punk' route I'd go for python as django seems to be getting more of foothold than rails - django will run on app engine for instance.

do you need to use MS SQL? if you've got apache running instead of IIS you may as well make your life easier and just use Mysql

However active tutors are about 70% How easy is it to administer? As easy as any other LAMP/ WAMP based CMS Does it integrate with the MIS properly? We coded up a lot of stuff to work with our MIS (NG Correro) so it currently does a lot of what it needs to for us and we're constantly looking to do more, timetables are the next thing Is it expensive ?, I know how long is a piece of string but.... Moodle is free and open source. So it costs disk space, hardware and my post to run and develop it. I'm doing a load of other development and systems integration type work as well though. What do you use if for, - notices, lessons, homework, quizes, coursework, revision, reporting to parents? all of the above. also texting out to students, ILP's, intranet stuff, student resources

I've been asked to take the timetable information for each student from our MIS and dump it into a nice to read page for our students. A month view type calender like outlook. Does anyone have any recommendations for a class, jquery plugin etc for doing this?
