just feel pouches will just be a nightmare and students would always find ways around they damage them etc and this would cause more issues than having the mobile phone itself. i think that parent engagement is the key and making their kids understand the impact it is having on everyday life and also later in life when they get a job. I was surprised that there was nothing on this at BETT this year seem as it is a government lead thing.

i am don't think the pouches will work and must be an absolute nightmare to managed, there has got to be a better solution out there. Do any schools put the responsibility onto the parents to have a word with them to stop them bringing them in or get them come up to collect there mobile after been taken off them would they get annoyed at coming up all the time, ultimately the responsibility in on the student. I have seen that you can get lockers in classroom that house mobile phones does anyone have these? and how successful have they been?

Guest/BYOD Network Filtering
nathan3388 replied to Latics83's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
we use fortigate as a transparent proxy that will allow the device to be filtered and we use the NX filter free to filter the BYOD network where guest and staff members have access we are in the process of using radius with the wifi controller that we us ruckus so that staff use there credentials to login and this will log against who been searching for what. -
hi, I do the ICT support for a local primary school and with budget constraints, i am pleaing to the edugeeks out there that you might have some of these lying around in the cupboards. if you could private message me if you have that would be great. D-Link DEM-310GT or something similar that will work with old Dlink switches. Thanks Nathan

Me please! -
Sorry forgot to put the quantities down we currently have 113 r650 aps for 1 high school and 7 primaries
-
We recently updated out wifi point from the ruckus 7363 to the R650 this has improved the wifi considerably and also we went for the Virtual Smartzone director and can manage multiple sites under one instances. currently have 8 sites with different wifi setting VLans, in a day with average about 1500 devices across the wifi network and copes extremely well. We only had a 3 year support contract with ruckus as well. Also with the R650 I like that it is AX and 4 4x4 antennas so coverage is better and also that it has 2.5Gb port for when we upgrade the switches to cater for more speed in the future .
-
Could be a faulty switch, if you are dropping pings to a certain area of the network could be a loop back on the network?. Have you spanning tree turn on might be worth it. To check the network.
-
We are using the ruckus virtual smart zone with 110ap across 7 sites really gd and we have a mixture of aps as well. R500, R600, R610 and r650 and these work amazingly. Easy to setup and deploy WiFi’s with 20 seconds

Thanks will look at libresoft, If reading cloud don’t get my problem sorted. Had a problem logged for nearly 2 months now and still on going

Hi Just wondering what systems people are using for their library management. We are with reading cloud at the minute, but on about changing. The software would have to work on a MacBook and iPad and be able to check out books on both systems. Easily and use a Bluetooth scanner to scan books barcode. Thanks Nathan

@mrwoberts look at transparent proxies this will inspect the https webpage and if on the filtering list block it without installing a SSL on any device that the organisation doesn't not belong to

You can set the fortigate to do https traffic inspection on guest networks if you know how the network works and can configure it. We did have this setup with a transparency proxy but we noticed that the cpu of our fortigate went through the roof. So that is why we use the nxfilter for the guest networks during the day as a basic filtering solution. If we are not using transparency proxy and just a normal rule with ssl inspection on then we have to install the ssl certificate on the device to trust the fortigate to inspect the traffic else it will throw up a certificate error. You can turn ssl inspection off but willnt filter https traffic.

We only use it on the guest WiFi. We use fortinet on the main filtering solutions and this has worked wonders for years and we also use fortianalyziser to do the logging

if you are after a free solutions then we use nxfilter and this uses a transparency proxy to be able to do the inspection of the traffic and records it.
