Though I have not tried myself I have heard of a software called AirServer, not sure if it works in the UK as I can only see US prices, AirServer - AirPlay and Miracast receiver for Mac OS X and Windows PC Sorry if this doesn't help Edit: Saw this when look for prices of AirServer May help -

In the past I have given one member of staff admin rights on there own computer, only because he was in the same office and he need to ask me or the other IT techs if he could install stuff (mostly flash and java). -
Hope it lunches before August, be nice to see if it is worth upgrade the students computers

Sorry been no help so far, the last thing I canthink of is trying the win 8 drivers and seeing if that works sorry that I can't think of more -

Is there a similar printer on the network (an older colour printer) you could try using those drivers -
The only advise I can give is to try and relax, there undergrads so they are going to want to be there so they should not be talking to each other much. If you have a chance maybe you could have a practice in front of some people to try and make it feel less worse. You may want to leave sometime for questions Remember when talk not to have a paper in front of your face. I hope it goes well for you

If the drivers from the disc are not working you could download the least drives from the HP website -

I've used both Netsupport and Impero, If you just want a classroom management system netsupport is most likely your best beat, but impero gives you lots of options if you are want it to block websites or manage what programs can be opened on the computers for which user.
