No, kids here, but looking how they can act not sure how the human race has lasted this long. When I started I thought have kids was something I would like to do but now I can see why kids are not for every one.

Maybe it's time to move away from party politics, all they seem to do is pass blame and every Wednesday get in a massive shouting match with each other, I have seen primary school students have a more civil argument than half of the time you see the prime minister questions and other times they are sitting down shouting at each other.

That sound like a practical idea but teachers are never that practical, the teachers where I work only have laptops if they are middle management up. Most departments use their budget to buy them if they have a teacher that really needs one.

Today I have been asked to find an inspirational video to be used in an assembly, does any one have any good ideas?

I use Venue booker. It's quiet a lot but we use it for all of our bookings (sports hall booking, Mini bus etc) and it is simple to uses, you could see about having one booking system across school and SLT member to pay for it.

Our school wireless network has always been made up of the little £30 wireless routers, at the time when the school installed a new network they decide to save money and not get any wireless points what so ever. Then the day came when a room was give 30 laptops and we need to get them working wirelessly, we had to put four wireless units in one area to get them to work and they were slow as well as not always working. This repeated to a few time and now almost every room has a £30 wireless routers. Luckily we are having new buildings biult with professional wireless points put in, we have one of the builds done already and it works like a dream, only problem is that the department does not have laptops there and the teachers use it more, but when the big building is finished it 'should' make wireless acess better.

Hey all, I have had a teacher come up to me today, the teacher almost fell for an fishing e-mail. After coming to me we check to see that it was a fishing e-mail and then the teacher deleted it and went back to he's Prep time. This got me thinking about the advice a give out on safe use of e-mail when talking to the staff or students, I normal say when they uses their personal: - 1. Only open e-mail from people you know. 2. Delete or move to junk anything you think is unsafe. 3. If it's to good to be ture it's because it's to good to be ture. 4. Don't give out your e-mail to people on the street or to websites that you visit researching work, or have a diffenet e-mail account just for that. 5. If you do get an E-mail that looks genuine copy and paste a bit of the text into Google, Yahoo, Bing etc and see if a hit comes up saying it's fake. 6. Come and show it to me so I can check the links. 7. Don't use a school computer to check you personal e-mails. Have I missed anything?

maintenance. A laptop can be taken a part and parts replaced if need be (or improved) easily, where iPads to have anything repaired needs the iPad sent back for fixing or reseting on a computer for a software problem.

Shame the schools no long teach common sense anymore.

Where I work I'm the only full time tech and the school highers 3 placement students from the local University to work for a year, I tend to start off the relationship with them by talking about them (family, were they came from, uni storys) and then talk about things that we have common intrests in. Not using e-mail right away is a good call, and every so buy food for them.

We have used desktops in the classrooms for about 5 years now, it worked fine for years only problem we had was the desktops that we had were Dells and they have a lovely red volt switch on the back (the self destructed button). Something to keep in mind is how long to use the computers for, 3 years on we started getting compliants of them being "slow". We would of changed them but the SLT went down the BSF path and said that will have to last because they didn't want to put more money into buying desktops

I've had a lot of that in the past, all I did was get the dt tech to cut out some lovely green plastic covers for the missing sections and then me and the other technicains super glued them on. Who do you think is more to blame the students or the teachers that "don't see it" when they are in those rooms? My boss riase this with the head of IT and the head explianing that if it continued that there won't be many lessons that will be using computers, it soon stopped.

Well I was having a look on a squid website and the newer versons seem to run on windows, not sure if that is the case though.

One idea is that you could use squid. I used it and it worked fine until we need to move systems due to BSF (which never happened). It can be hard to set up but if you are ok with Linux but now newer version seem to work on windows, and it is free (unless you want to donate).
