Job, Technical Specialist @ Smoothwall (Leeds)
kmount replied to tom_newton's topic in Educational IT Jobs
Goes without saying, any opportunity to work with the Smoothwall team should not passed upon by anyone looking for that next step. -
That is fantastic!

Completely agree.

In my experience they tend to work fine as long as they aren't looking for any RM specific unc paths (rmshared, rmpublic etc) as the RM Application Wizard is just a wrapper for WinstallLE with some exclusions etc. (Well, in CC3 anyway..... CC4 who knows)

2008R2 sp1 killed our Wyse S10's RDP Connection
kmount replied to sacrej's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
If it's greyed out something is controlling it normally GPO. Do you have any apps on there that could be putting in this requirement? Do you have a spare box in the farm to shove in the Computers container with no GPOs applied to check? -

Suspect that's going to be down to group policy or the tsconfig itself but you've eliminated the latter. Look at Computer Configuration > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Security > "Require user authentication for remote connections by using Network Level Authentication" (of course you may have several policies so you may need to gpresult first) -

It's there on my 2008r2 SP1 TS. Right click my computer, properties, remote settings, 3 options, pick the middle one (any version of remote desktop) -
Google's not heard of that filename, removing the .dll leads us to some Blu Ray stuff, is this what you're after? I wouldn't recommend downloading dll's from the internet and using them as you cannot be sure where they originated. Normally you're better finding the software download that includes the dll and installing that. Cheers, Kim

Fair enough, I would have just thought it'd have been sensible to not have the whole operation floored by a single disk failure. It may not be a big 'job' to rebuild it etc but it seems to be one that's pretty easy to avoid. (I've seen this before when the back up exec db was stored on the OS Disk that wasn't considered important and when the disk did fail, all of the data was there and happy on the storage array but they had to reindex the whole lot because they didn't have the sql db) I don't see the point in deploying anything on single disk these days if you can avoid it. EDIT: Just re-read your backing up the server anyway so you could bare metal restore that from the tape library onto a new disk I guess.
-
I'd rethink you running the OS/Apps on a single disk for when that fails and you need to rebuild it. How much data are you talking about, how big a back up window do you have, etc.

MOODLE LDAP not working after upgrade
kmount replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Oh hang on I read ldap capture up there, that's an addon module (certainly in 1.9 days....). What did you upgrade FROM to 2.0.2 ? (have you got a copy of the ldap capture module installed ... I don't see one for 2.0 but then I've not used 2.0) It's different to the normal ldap auth module (again, certainly in 1.9 days) -

It's something as crazy as the account in moodle is set to a different auth type than ldap? -

Have you downloaded a build of thinstation which has the open view client installed within? I've not done this before so I will let someone who has explain more.
