  1. Thanks, reasonable idea. Don't recall needing any before when I replaced the hdd in the laptop 6 months ago and I've even tried the dell fix-me-up cd that comes with it Thanks for the suggestion though, it's one I hadn't considered.
  2. Oh, and yeah I'm currently running chkdsk from the vista DVD to see if that will trick it into playing again. EDIT: which just finished and the problem persists.
  3. Here's a puzzler for you all.. Dell Latitude D610 won't load XP setup when the hdd is connected. You get the press any key to boot from CD which you do and then you get the usual checking hardware and the hdd indicator blinks once and the machine hangs at a black screen with no cdrom activity when you'd expect the familiar blue + white windows install screen. Some notes: * Removal of hdd set up runs fine * Will boot no problem from any linux livecd I've used but point blank refuses to boot from either of the two XP CDs I've tried * Will boot however from a Vista DVD I've been able to recover all of the data using a linux livecd and smarttools is quite happy there's no disk problems in an extended test. The fault reported to me was "disk read error, press ctrl alt del" when trying to boot windows which we all know means XP has had a tantrum and needs a chkdsk/fixboot/fixmbr/a cuddle. I don't care about the data anymore but if I can't boot the bloody thing to install XP I'm loathed to trash the partitions to find I still can't. Any intelligent ideas welcomed. Ta.
  4. Highly doubt they will be rolling out 2.0, it's very new and has some problems. (associated with being new/different). Stick with 1.9.10 for now, might go along a bit better.
  5. Duke, Drop me a mail I'll sort it out for you.
  6. Davids' software is fantastic and this is a classic example. Works perfectly fine with delegated access to the users OU.

  9. The same offer applies to UK. The problem is that it won't work on a NAT (well it wouldn't when I did this some years ago) set up even if you have a public IP natted because eth0 won't *have* this IP.
  10. Can you show us the output of ifconfig netstat -rn cat /etc/resolv.conf (all from a terminal) Can you also from your browser try visiting BBC - Homepage (should take you to the bbc news page) so we can see if its dns related.
  11. Yeah, I didn't bother waiting for the timeout after 30 secs or so of trying to report a post I gave up.
  12. Without seeing the SQL query and an example from the database it's hard to tell...

    Win 7 64bit?

With that in mind if you have kit that will do it I would.

    Win 7 64bit?

You (and everyone else) could argue the pro's and con's of a 64bit system but lets be realistic, the future is 64bit (well, MS don't bother making 32bit server versions anymore) so getting on the band wagon if you can might not be a bad idea. I've ran 64bit linux since I had a 64bit capable processor and all has been fine, no oddities as such to speak of but I know some gamers have had some issues on 64bit OS' but my wife runs a 64bit rig and she's not screamed too much recently so I guess it's OK. What specification kit are you running?
  15. Ah, yeah I seen it coming with the beta's and still have reservations over this 'way' of developing the product (core + ext) but we'll see what comes of it.
  16. Good question, I haven't got a gentoo box around I'm afraid. Tried X11 forwarding to open up the virtualbox gui over ssh?
  17. Have a look at Chapter 7. Remote virtual machines Suspect you need to check you have the expansion pack and have enabled vrdp from this. Would not necessarily rely on an nmap of localhost as I'm not sure if the vrdp bind would include loopback in addition to the specified interface address.
  18. Fortunately not!
  19. *shrugs* it says revised in 2009. I'm just googling. Did you look on the inside of the case door to see if it provides info on there? Regardless of the speed I suspect they would have kept to the same conventions if they are still deploying on two riser cards aligned in the same way regardless of the 'size'.
  20. How do you upgrade the RAM in the original Mac Pro? How much RAM of what type does it support? @ EveryMac.com
  21. Knowing nothing about macs I'm not sure but if you're saying you currently have a matched pair in A1 and A2 why are you putting them into C2 and D2 and not C1 and C2 (or D1 and D2) like the existing? (also, are the new the same speed as the existing, be careful you might get better performance out of the 4x4 new and not using the existing 2x1 if it's going to throttle down)
  22. Really? You've been misled. It's completely possible to have a TS environment on a CC3 system. I wouldn't recommend running it inside the RM structure because of the voodoo RM stuff that goes on but there's no reason users cannot have a desktop, mapped drives, access to applications, printing etc with their normal user/pass.
  23. Why not? Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package Not tried it mind you.
  24. Hi there, Welcome to Edugeek Do you have access to phpmyadmin? The database collation needs to be adjusted as per items 2-8 above. Might be worth popping a support ticket into your webhost and ask them to do that for you. Not a big job Cheers, Kim
