    Web Filtering

Only if you allow them to run executables from removable devices in the first place... Perfect example of what software restriction policies are for.
  2. Woohoo! well it finally happened, Tis my last day working in a school , i managed to get a job working for Energy and Utility Skills. Ill still be lurking tho, would like to keep up on events in the schools system and its such a good community here(no trolls etc, apart from the odd flamewar on roaming profiles lol )
  3. Do you run Sophos?
  4. yay filtered for porn :\ lol
  5. well ,so far we are running the technical audit, and i must say, the tool doesnt do anything i couldnt tell them directly. Have had numerous problems with the registration system on the website too.
  6. The problem we have here is the kids change the desktop pics constantly during lesson, so resetting it makes no odds to them, its the "ability" to change the desktop that causes the issue for us.
  7. Yeah a kid walked in when i changed page and that appeared, sometimes having a 19" monitor doesnt pay...
  8. Ran thru a similar situation here, and luckily i start my new job on monday and i wont be working with kids anymore! I will still be tied to the DFeS (theres no getting rid of them) but its for adult training in the energy and utility sectors. I do feel for you ssimstar, but jus keep looking, something good will come your way soon.
  9. Does it fix the problems too? we can all hope...
  10. i have 100 invites too if anyone needs one
  11. LOL you seen the message you get if you open it in IE? Tis sheer class: "If you're running Internet Explorer, please upgrade your browser. Choose from the links below:" About time
  12. woohoo, yeah it was huge, i was contemplating greasemonkeying it at one point lol Is there no way of fixing the width in the site css? or does it just mangle the rss feeds?
  13. Well i was doing really well when reading thru all your info and advice till i hit: Mine takes up 2 :S Nice to know i was doing something right tho as generally i fit what you said. @Tarqel: ill send u a copy of my CV for you to browse over mate.
  14. I use google talk... Works quite nice actually and it works thru the BGfL firewall(!)
  15. Thats screwed up :S It would be interesting to hear his views on as to why he wont do it, most of my software goes out via MSI or scripts on the RIS, it saves me about 3hrs per workstation on manual installations. RIS + MSI deployment means where it used to take a week to prep and rebuild a computer room, it now takes 1/2 a day... i cant see ANY reason as to why this is a bad thing... Sorry this does not hep you out daverage but there is no real solution that i know of apart from group policy deployment (MSI publishing/assignment or scripting unattended setups) or SMS(expensive), and it seems your NM has a bugbear with something to do with the process so is cutting off his nose to spite his face.
  16. I usta play C&C alot, but that was years ago, never got past Tiberian Sun tbh lol. Might be worth getti nthat uber box set tho cus i enjoyed them all
  17. i dont know but to hazard a guess, its probably embedded in a DLL somewhere knowing microsoft. If this is the case you can use resource hacker to modify the files but from previous experience it doesnt work too well vs windows file protection
  18. Interestingly enough, i phoned M$ a while back about a hotfix requireing a phonecall and they were mroe than happy to provide it with no CC details at all... maybe it was cus i made them aware i was only after a download from the beginning or something, they did mention the call 'could be chargeable' but said they would invoice the school if it was(!) they never did though...
  19. /me hands Geoff the MD5sum stick to beat beeswax with...
  20. Try this Ive had many a fun day with intel nics not playing ball, it has always been an inf replacement that has fixed it (ive had it with several pro/100s and a pro/1000) BTW: I know it states for 2K3 you should apply the hotfix, but i never have as this method works and i dont have to phone M$ every time i set up a RIS server...
  21. Yes they can: Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->System Services You can define what to run, what not to run and what to leave up to the computer.
  22. My sister is gettin sky+ i think shes already ordered it tho, ill give her a call an ask. If she hasnt id love a voucher
  23. i have 10 Cisco Aironet 1200 APs, over 400 quid a pop but superb coverage, the usual cisco configurability (is that even a word? lol) but for a P2P, probably way too much money, jus a pair of buffalos as Geoff mentioned. Out of interest Geoff, how far is the air gap between the APs and what are the aerial specs?
  24. to get back on topic, (lol sorry for hijacking the thread)... The SX280 uses some massive edge connector, its nice to see Dell following some sort of "standard" connector (even if you couldnt physically fit anything else in there) at least it opens up 3rd parties to develop modulebay items and could provide some interesting "mods" wedged in there too lol (like card readers etc)
