  1. Im lucky in the sense i managed to scaremonger SMT into buying me 2 new servers over the last 2 years running which now have nice big shiny LTO2s in them with Veritas BackupExec with SQL exchange and remote modules. I run a full backup every weekday, as it only takes bout an hour and take the tapes off site
  2. Probably the way to go mate If the option isnt available via the volume control under advanced options it probably isnt available at all
  3. Does anyone here use con2prt anymore? it has the option to set the default option when installing network printers, and i jus launch it using a batch file assigned in group policy at user logon
  4. Birmingham Grid for Learning Unfortunately the page you have requested cannot be displayed at the moment, for the following reason: Inappropriate Content Blocked by: N2H2/LOOPHOLE 0 1 Gotta love the filtering systems here in birmingham eh
  5. voted now i knew i was voting on the correct bit lol
  6. I have to take my hols during breaks, btw Mark your poll reads wrong, it says: "When do you take annual leave? Strictly term time only", shouldnt it be strictly non term time only?

    New Windows Worm

Cheers for the info geoff, time for another test of WSUS and Sophos methinks...
  8. ahh right ok lol Im too used to windows being a pain in the rear end and making a task like that over complicated, ill take a screenie when i get back into work on thursday
  9. Well im a bit of a sad git and play a game calledMapleStory Havent got the rig to play games atm jus my works laptop (its got an ATi X300 in it but it aint that great trying to frag someone with a touchpad... )
  10. I have a newly fitted 10Mbit fiber link from telewest courtesy of the BGfL (o well you cant have it all), theres a big projecto going on where telewest are dropping in about 700-800 fiber links in across birmingham for all of the councils facilities and its all vlanned with QoS. should be interesting... as for lan side ive got a gbit backbone (running on cat5e! lol) with 100mbit to all desktops and 80211b/g to the laptops
  11. rofl someone had a laugh when they made that, gets the info across tho and how many geeks will be humming that tune for the next 6 months now...
  12. Server room has an absolutely huge air con unit in there, keeps the place at 16C so i just pop in there when its too hot , problem is if u stay in there for more than 5 mins u get hypothermia
  13. I love the way you put windows before dos lol!, and yeah i was wondering what the "blobs" were untill you mentioned it Ric_, maybe some front oriented ones would look better?
  14. id post my desktop but i have no idea how to screenshot 2 across 2 desktops lol any ideas? (im guessing that i screenshot each one individually then PS them back together
  15. 22 here, and i will have the joys of cable TV on wednesday so Cbeebies here i come lol

    WSUS experiences

Tarquel, did u type http://servername:8530 or just servername:8530, seems daft but ie wont accept it without the http:// and u will get a page cannot be displayed. EDIT: ahh nevermind just realised the board parsed the tag and dropped the h t t p : / / from the start
  17. Well ive got a bunch of Cisco kit, and so far it works with everything ive thrown at it, as for WPA, i have had the whole system running WPA with PEAP (via a RADIUS server) and it was totally seamless, the only downside being the client must have a cert before it can join the network, but i use group policy to deploy them at the end of a RIS. Sadly, not all my gear is 11g yet so i had to stop dreaming and turn off WPA for now, and am running unsecured at the moment
  18. If you are still looking for mods, then ive got experience on several boards as mod/smod, had a play with admincp on vbulletin too , Im mainly Windows/HTML/C#/Active Directory/Group Policy type of person but will mod anything.
  19. ajbritton, Assuming that you are performing a RIS using a physical connection to the networkand are installing windows XP SP2, you should be able to deploy WLAN settings using group policy: Default Domain Policy/Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies When the computer completes the RIS, group policy will update and deploy the wireless policies for you
  20. lol mine was a 2000 exchange box till i did an in place upgrade to 2003... its serving all the staff (bout 85 people) and its a 900 duron with an ATA100 HDD and 256MB RAM... so performance is poor unsuprisingly lol
  21. Well ive got HTML and CSS skiills, and i code database driven c#.net websites, so my vote went on C# im afraid (not a fan of VB) Suggestion: make the frontend web based? dump it on an IIS box with the correct security and you can delegate tasks to trusted users, also means its very customisable. Also means you could make it database driven (msde?, unless you have a fully blown SQL box to dump it on of course) and have bolt-on module suport?
  22. Well makes my holiday pale in comparison: 12 new laptops to unpack and RIS 2 admin workstations to be set up and RISed (1 is in a room with no network point, gotta run a cable the length of the building *yay*) Teach myself to stop playing with the Cisco APs when the headteacher is in work out if i can convince SMT to buy 80 802.11g cards so i can finally enable my RADIUS server and WPA Fit some new shiny 5.2dBi antennas to some of the poorer performing APs spring clean all the servers Create 150 new student accounts (yes i do use scripts, im not mad lol) RIS 100 exsisting workstations RIS every staff laptop that enters the building over the hols invent a good way of destroying the exchange server so i can buy a new one anything else i think to do On hols atm till next thursday, when im back i should have my 10mbit lease line courtersy of the BGfL woohoo
  23. Personally, i swing both ways for diffeent situations, Intel in laptops purely for Centrino, and for general workhorses id still go with Intel at the desktop level due to the high non gaming benshmark scores. AMD is a gaming chip company at the moment and kills the competition, but kids at school are'nt playing doom 3 are they I couldnt comment on 64Bit at the moment due to lack of exposure on my part, i must admit tho the X2s look intriguing...
  24. Server 2000/2003 2K and XP over here, trying to get rid of the 2 old 2K server boxes but need some serious hardware upgrades before its worth doing as its the exchange server box
