did you wait for the policies to update or do a gpupdate /force (xp only) or a secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce and secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy /enforce (2000) to make sure the policies were updated?

using names as a basis for comparison is a bad idea, for instance, i could just rename a malicious piece of code to a process name that has been declared safe to run and voila, md5sums of the exes would be more useful, but would need to be updated when the program version changes On a side note, doesnt windows group policies have a similar sort of system for safe program execution (which uses the path system and invariably can be bypassed with the method above)

Use windows authenticated logon if its an intranet... saves coding forms based logons and messing with ad integration + IE will automatically pass authentication from its current windows session so they wont even have to log on to the website.

I cant get fiber at my new workplace, hell i cant even get an IP lease, theres question if we can even get SDSL at any reasonable speed so im screwed lol (we run VPN on a 512Kbps adsl line atm.... lol) You guys are spoilt in schools you know, they want £300 a month just for 2MB SDSL and you guys get 10Mbit managed links (or more depending on the locale) with support (yeah i know i know, its not always brilliant but its support nonetheless lol) I spose i do get the joys of controlling my own connection tho (has its downsides too tho)

Dont microsoft have a shared computer toolkit that does this for free? i seem to recall some discussions on this forum about it (i dont have time to search now, im up at 5am to get ready to jump on a train to london for some web training and im way behind on packing lol)

the MSI might have a custom dialog, causing the install to halt, i had a similar issue with one of the Serif packages, afaik theres nothing you can do about it either :grrr:

are te computers stored in a different OU? im guessing it could be a permissions issue across seperate OUs. When you added teh perms on AD for the RIS account, did you do it on the domain root or a specific OU?

Used to have a similar probelm to this, i was using the stock windows drivers for the HP 2100s and 2200s and the used to hang like you mention. I rebuilt the print server and decided to use the manufacturers printer drivers (more specifically the PCL6 drivers) and since then everything functioned correctly till the day i left.

I didnt get any geeky presents per say, cus i bought myself a black ipod video a few months back (and a white one for the missus) and a mac mini bout a month after so im all geeked out lol I was chuffed about the mac mini tho, got it for the price of the base spec (the 400 quid one) but got the 1.42GHz one with 512MB RAM, superdrive, 80GB HDD bluetooth/wifi and modem, shoulda been 569 quid so i was chuffed Gotta love their 14 day no quibble returns policy, all that "refreshed stock" waiting to be bought got full "as new" spec and warranty on it all too Saying all that, i did get CoD for my mac (it runs bloodeh well too, i was suprised)

what client card and what wifi management software are you using? people always forget about hte client and a lot of problems reside at the client end (/me points at dos_boxes and my 2200BG cards from intel...)

At me old place it was 20MB a year, staff keep stuff on their laptops (long story) and offsite backups were 2 LTO1 drives (1 for students profiles and the main server and 1 for everything else)

At my old place, CMIS and ePortal was running on a Dual 3GHz Xeon with 3GB of RAM, and to answer the "Why is it so intensive" CMIS has a MSSQL backend, and ePortal is Java based, using J2Se and Apache Tomcat by default, the DB is roughly 700 tables, last time i was there the DB in RAM was about 2GB so its a bit of a beast. We ran regisration twice a day in a 700 student school, so im guessing there was at least 20 registrations + everyone who is using CMIS Admin too (about 7 or 8 people if i remember right) The problem isn't ePortal, its the size of the DB imo that cripples the boxes. ePortal is just slower on lower performing boxes, people want instant websites so keep hiting refresh, thus a catch 22 emerges.

Tell her bollocks mate, (in the politest possible way of course). Theres no way in hell she can force you to do something you think is wrong (and possibly against the data protection act?). She cannot sack you for not doing something under these circumstances. The next question is are you in a union? if so phone them. This is what they are for. I had this a while back at my old job when they wanted me to go diving into staff mailboxes with no signed AUP and no auth from the head teacher so i stuck to my guns and said no. Paid off in the end as i got the email i wanted to cover my own back. The very nature that she wont sign a piece of paper shows me that she doesnt think shes doing the right thing or doesnt even understand the situation, and wants a scapegoat if something does erupt. Bottom line is, dont do it without written auth, its not like your asking for the kingdoms riches, just a squiggle (which they freely sign whole budgets away on crap already...) ahh but did he google it? we will never know.... lol Saying that, that was like the current job i just applied for (and consequently got) The agency were told to perform a skills test with any clients that they thought were suitable, and mail the results back to the company. Turns out, the dumbass at the agency emailed the test to most of them untill the company got suspicious when everyone kept getting every answer right AND were all worded nearly identically. As it turns out, i was asked them all over the phone (still get em all right too :smug:) It didnt help the poor guy who was 9 years my senior with a masters degree tho, cus there was another technical barrage of questions and he didnt do to well (well i beat him and thats all i care about lol)

Sounds like when i had my first week off in 18 months and got called in on the 3rd day cus they couldnt download the exam results... i got 1/2 day back on holiday... i was in for 4 hrs, travelling for nearly 3... and i DONT get paid to be on call, especially when on holiday as for the phone issue, refuse to support them, stick by yer guns.
