Sky only have 5 HD channels too at the moment, its too "new" (yes i know the USA have had it for god knows how long but yet again its the whole big UK catch up crap we have) so its going to be "wait wait wait" as usual, and see who launches what channels and when. TBH, i dont think ill be getting the PVR for a while, but i wouldnt mind running my projector @ 1080i...

And if you want to put it on your internet site, use a specific css sheet for the kiosk to enlarge the fonts and use different menu buttons

Teleport TV? ive got it here (no 10mbit currently, still waiting) and its cool. Also next year, telewest are introducing a 160GB PVR with 3 tuners and HDTV... i have 2mbit, talk eveing and weekeds and the top tv package, csts me about 60 a month

TBH, i quite like the feeling of owning something a lil different (ie a PPC chip), cus i dont throw away my old hardware, i like to collect it. Ill prolly buy a new mac mini in a few years to save buying a new version of OS X lol.

hrmmm... well i tried this and it launches the apps, but even tho its told to hide them, they still open their main windows on login ahh well ill just have to click them myself for now lol

Opens fine in textedit (mac) too, tho it is using cryllic encoding. Pages reports the font missing is called "Estelle Black SF" Im guessing she has managed to change word to using a cryllic layout instead of the norm.

Hi folks, first mac question... (wow its been over a week, amazing lol) How do i get a program to start up (mail and ichat to be exact) at login _without_ opening its main window? i know how to get them to load at logon but not how to get them to do it without opening main window.

ummm so he must "like" running all these apps, considering you dont need to run them on a mac... and to debunk the theory that none of it exists, Norton AV for OS X IS available, you dont need to defragment a mac hdd cus it looks after itself every time it installs an app etc, no spyware for OS X AFAIK so running adaware would be pointless, and it has a system updater rofl, ive only been using macs a month and am still a novice, but this guys clueless... And the fact a mac cant run windows xp.... yes it can... but why would you want to?

There is issues using the windows drivers tho, i always try get the PCL drivers for all network printers as you lose functionality (HP2200 windows driver wont allow a 2200DN to double side for example) and i found it took down the print spooler more often. just before i left waverley i had set up all the network printers on a w2k3 box and were running manufacturers PCL6 drivers and not one single driver or spooler problem since it was set up. before that it was every day something would happen.

lol my mac mini is stupid fast imo for the stuff im doin on it, im used to waiting for windows tho and have never been graced with using a G5 like you russ so i think we wont mind

@Free: I dont you think your comments are needed and it would be dissapointing to see this thread turn into a flame war over a difference in opinion on a piece of software, we are all professionals here and we all have a job to do. If some people do it a different way to another then so be it, there is no reason to bash it. My personal experiences of ranger are similar to yours, i hated it and preferred a vanilla 2k3 system. I know of other schools that run Ranger sucessfully and helps them manage the unmanagable - its all based on wether or not you have the time to do it the M$ way or for ease of life you do it the Ranger (or any other management system) way.

Well i finally took the plunge and bought myself a Mac Mini... So far, i havent been able to fault it, it runs incredibly fast for its size and spec, (ive even been playing games on it, lol) tons of eye candy from aqua too if thats your thing and it looks so damn good sitting on my shelf lol You can even get a bash terminal so you can do things the *nix way if you wish to and being built on BSD, ive got a good foundation from using FreeBSD 5.x The only gripe i have is the keyboard... its like some USA/UK evil hybrid with the @ keys in the wrong place, and keys missing like the # key is actually alt + 2 (i had to google to find that out). There is no home/end buttons either which is a bitch (unless im missing something). (excuse the poor picture, was taken with my phone and the projector screen tends to screw up photos)
