In all fairness even when people do protest and do things, it makes no difference. Iraq war was what 2 million people on the streets? Ignored... University fees, 100 of thousands protested? Ignored... Even the riots because of lthe killing of Mark Duggan? Ignored... Nothing has changed. Most political parties have similar policies on a lot of things and when you live in a society where people expect the people at the top to all be lying all the time, it can hardly be right. I vote out of principle, not because I believe in any of the political parties. I would prefer a proportional representation system as well, I don't care if Fred won with 30% of the votes, because to me that means 70% of people who bothered to vote didn't want Fred. Lets include the fact only 40% even voted, so infact the vast majority of normal people didn't want Fred but we get him.... I think we should have proper proportional representation, whereby if only 40% of the overall population vote, then only 40% of the seats in the houses of parliament are filled. That would make people actually work for the job because someone not voting would be be someone voting against you.

I donated mine instead of "Music Magpie", I think it was about 50 DVDs and Music Magpie offered my about £14. I would rather a charity shop got £1-2 each for them and make much more.

Interestingly we had an ongoing issue with the web proxy failing which meant we had to restart the whole UTM1000 box fairly regularly. After a year of re-installing the box, even replacing it with a new box, Smoothwall support were unable to find a solution for us. I never saw the processor spiking a lot though. We "fixed" the issue by sorting our core switch out, we set up proper access lists etc. Since then the Smoothwall box didn't crash once, so it would appear there was to much traffic hitting smoothwall (a lot of it duff) which was causing the problem. We did however have our smoothwall UTM providing DHCP for our guest wireless, so it mgith have been guest wireless traffic that wasn't good. Just a thought.

He would want to look at FTe licensing, are you mad? He has 260 FTE (in Microsoft's opinion) for 200 pupils and only 90 computers (assuming 3 in each classroom). Surely per computer model is far superior when you have nearly 3x the staff to computers.

Most hard drives, cd drives, screens etc are generic. Take the old one out and get the part number off them (screens are easy to get hold of). Plastic casing is the worse thing to get hold off, you need proper suppliers for them, some keybaords too.

a desktop.ini file is beign created int heir home drives and they are they appearing named different. You can delete the desktop.ini and stop it being created using rules or you can add directory or folder name (can't remember which) to the explorer windows to see the actual name of the folder.

Use Control Panel and then Mail to try and repair the account.

We had to run "repair" on our outlook accounts. Basically when you upgrade your mailbox moves locations so you need to reapir your account then the autodiscover will point it back to the right place again.

People shouldn't need a boom arm blocking both sides of the road but in the UK we are modernising them, so everything is blocked, both lanes, pedestrian sections after those two teenage girls ran across (having ignored the warning lights and gone through a gate) and got hit by the train and killed. Apparently, this is the only way to stop people killign themselves by accidentally doing everything your not meant to do and jumping in front of a train. I believe in the case above because the gate wasn't locked Network Rail had to pay compensation too.

If it is queing then it can't go out, it isn't setup properly. I think you can open the emails in notepad and it will tell you why it is queing, I know you cna open badmails and it tells you.

We use a SMTP server in IIS and then send it through Office365.

Also depending ons chool size ofcourse But what do you use for your current filtering? I wouldn't worry about getting a different ISP for the staff and students unless you are already having problems with the amount of traffic on your main connection. You can set up a seperate SSID on your wireless points, you can then tag the guess SSID on the separate VLAN. If you then allow this tagged traffic through your switches you just need a gateway for it. You can use freebie software such as dansguardian that will do firewall and filtering and also provide DHCP as well. So effectively all your guess wireless traffic goes through this box and then out into the big wide world (usually through your firewall or even just the general network).

A lot of it depends on your filtering and firewall solution and then some more of it depends on the amoutn fo work you want to put into it. Yes those wireless points can definitely do it, I personally have used them before when creating an ad-hoc non-managed wireless network with two SSIDs but we had to manage them seperately so it was a nightmare. Basically though, you create a second SSID on your wireless points, I would put this on a seperate VLAN as well. You then have DHCP (from somewhere) giving addresses out on this VLAN and this VLAN then hits a filtering and firewall appliance or something similar, and goes out to the Internet without touching the main network and can then be filtered/ firewalled as appropiate. Some issues you get: Are how are your users going to authenicate against the filtering, or are they at all? Is everyone just going to be treated as a default "Student". You want a transparent proxy ideally. Are you comfortable setting up the VLANs? It is all simply things but still needs doing.

The problem is for most manufactuers and this is why Apple gets the "top" customer service is because they take their shiny item to the shop and see how amazing everything is, everything there is even more shiny. Then a "genius" tells them they have borked up their device and takes it off them to fix. They get a phone call and then they go and collect it, and people feel they are in control of the situation and like talkign to a person. The whole process might take 2 weeks though. However, other manufactuers usually do a pick up and return. People don't like it, they feel they have to wait in for someone to come and collect it and then they are forced to wait in for it to be returned as well. It is definitely less convenient for a lot of people. The process might take only 4 days but people feel more inconvienced having to wait in for a "non-personal" service. For businesses however, the return to base or engineer coming on site is the best option, because we are at work 8-5 or whatever every day fo the week. It isn't inconvenient for them to come anytime between 9-5 etc etc. It is all about who you gear your service for, and Apple target consumers as already stated. Back to the original person's query, you can get contracts with authorised repairers for free repairs, or just free labour etc, even after "Apple Care" has run out. So that is your option.

I work hard but that doesn't mean I remote in every night, we aren't paid too so why are you doing it? If your checking your servers every night and at the weekend then I wonder what your servers are doing. I trust that my servers will still be working every day when I come in to work, because I look after them when I am in work. Sure there may be the odd day where you need to come in early or even on saturday to get a really important job done. Also the summer holidays is there for most of the disruptive jobs, installign new RAM in a server in 2nd week back? Surely that was a summer job. Servers shouldn't need constant attention, 24/7 in a school environment. Also what you going to do if they all go off at 10pm at night, the answer is probably there isn't much you can do except know the next day won't be fun. Sadly while the staff and students are in the job is to help them and keep everything going, no matter what your next big project is, becuase your next big project isn't happening there and then and it is very likely that it can be interrupted.
