I have problems with IE10 and assigning sites to zones, it works fine on IE9 but not at all on IE10.

I've got it working now, for some users, the issue was regarding some old legacy settings elsewhere that were overriding the GPP settings, took some digging to correct them. However, does anyone use GPP to set IE settings and also use mandatory profiles? Because when I have tested this, it doesn't work, the proxy settings don't seem to apply, the rest of the policy does, just not the proxy.

Interesting report considering a school local to me tested its Unifi (standard point) by streaming HD video on 30 Macbook pros at once and they said they noticed no slowdown from it. I'm actually slightly surprised that almost no AP could have 20 iPads too. Edit: Did anyone else find the fact they changed the colour for each AP constantly a little annoying?

GPP works fine for it, we use a 2012 DC for this job. However, when you move from IE Maintenance to GPP, you will have loads of fun and games getting it to work as even "not configured" settings interfere if they sue to be set. We moved all ours to GPP just this week, except the homepage simply will not work.

Personally Rich, I wouldn't change in your circumstances but there is no reason why you couldn't, some pros/ cons quickly off the top of my head. Pros: Easier to manage thin clients, probably cheaper in the long term, cheaper to add more "computers" Cons: Single point of failure (most likely), video playback isn't the best on them, you limit your software usage a little, you need to learn to set them up yourself of course. With regards to your licensing, yes you would need to ensure you have the correct RDS licenses for this setup, cost depends on your licensing.

We block everything then add exceptions to the correct locations, such as program files etc.

Or give permissions to the mailbox by the group and not the individual users, such as your admins group.

Hi Andy We use the thinkiosk process launcher and launch a local RDP file, we also use thinkiosk as a complete shell replacement. There is an update coming that will allow you to provide a list of rdp files to choose from too, though probably not necessary for you.

If you have fat machines already then use then with Windows 7 Thin Client or even win7 pro, you dont need them to run anything but Windows, Anti-Virus and RDP. If you make them auto login in locally with something like Thinkiosk, then that login doesn't slow people down either.

Apologies didn't get an email sayign there was an update. We use NComputing thin clients to our RDS server. Then we use WES 7 thin clients to our VDI solution, we can then use RDP 8.0 and get better results. We also use server 2012 as the VDI host.

We run 1GB to clients, is the network usage on the VDI server high? We run 45 on an RDS session host (32 core server, with 64GB RAM) We also run a VDI Pool of 15 on a matching server. We have no slow downs

What spec are your links between the computers?

ThinKiosk will not be causing the issues, we use it with ours and have no problems. What is your server load like when they are all connected?

I personally used this as a guide Deploying Windows 8 Virtual Desktop Infrastructure on Windows Server 2012 Then when I got stuck just Googled for any answers. My one bit of advice is when you first install the server roles (as above) if you get an error, check the system logs for services not starting. This is because sometimes, ok most of the time, the account the service tries to run with can't actually run it. There is also sometimes a quirk where you VMs won't start, try doing a gpupdate /force and then start them (no need to lgo off even if it asks) Edit: We have Windows 7 Desktops event though the guide is for Windows 8

What your attempting to create is a Virtual Pool of machines. Here is the very basic steps On a server (physical), that you intend to use (I recommend Server 2012) choose to make a Virtual Pool when you install RDS. You will then need to create a master image, then back it up (to allow any fixes later). Sysprep it but don't do anything else to it. You can then create a Virtual Pool for users to login to, test it internally. Then you can add a gateway, which has an external hostname etc that you can connect through. This can be the same server if you want. Or you could create a Remote Desktop Session based server, which would give you a similar result for less effort (in my opinion). We have both in place for different circumstances.

I would go for a wireless point to point link. I have heard that lasers really don't like snow or rain, wireless is effected by it but not as badly.
