I have actually moved jobs since the last post, but I know my replacement is on Edugeek as well. The clients themselves were fine, I would definitely recommend using Chrome though over IE because of how the clients try accelerate the content on IE results in some screen flickering. The server we used, had SSDs, and two 16 core AMD processors and 64Gb of RAM. We had 50 or so clients running on the server with no problems what so ever.

The problem is now resolved.

I think when you enable the process launcher to launch an RDP file instead, it gets rid of the citrix URL, i'll install thinkiosk now on my computer and check. Yep when I point the process launcher to my RDP file, the URL box disappears (on an older version you had to stop it manually). So install ThinkKiosk, open the Offline Configuration Tool (its on the start menu) and then add your RDP file to the process launcher to start with, remember to tick the Enable Microsoft RDS mode first, as you are using a VDI server, or the RDP file will relaunch continuously.

you can see if the ldap module is installed and working by going to site administration then server then php info Do a search do ldap there. I mean the directory with the contexts, although it would appear you might not even be getting to that part. Don't worry about the samaccountname part, mine has stayed lowercase now and still works.

I wonder if it doesn't like the space in "cn=staff users" do you have an OU you could try with no space?

I don't mean to insult you, but you defo have the ldap module in your php, and you defo have the samaccountname filled in AD right?

Have you tried using a domain admin account as the bind account to make sure the permissions are correct?

Fair point, turn off the citrix web URL. Then make it auto-launch an RDP file on login, if your using a VDI pool (which you are) then you need to tick a checkbox for that as well. Once it all works, then you can replace the explorer shell with thinkiosk. You can also do all this by GPO, we have a GPO that copies the RDP file locally and does all the setup for ThinKiosk except replacing the explorer shell.

Is it not to do with iSCSI and LUNs? And how each device can't see changes to the LUN you setup.

Is it internally hosted? Also does your AD server give any errors from the binding?

I have never used multipoint so cannot comment on that. We have NComputing L300s connected to an Remote Desktop Server, they run fine, use Chrome though instead of IE otherwise you suffer from "ripping" and page flickers. The real advantage of using an RDS server is you can then use it to allow remote login out of hours? I have also read some funny things about Multi-Point and licensing but they are probably cleared up now.

We use thinKiosk, though it doesn't replace your current windows install, just replaces the explorer shell. It is controllable by group policy though, basically the computers auto login to a local non admin account, and ThinKiosk launches an RDP connection to the virtual computers, and relaunches it if it gets closed. The advantage of staying with a windows as the base image? You can install stuff more easily locally and still get it to the virtual machines, e.g printers.

I have just checked ours, it is hosted on site. Our Host URL is just ldap://server.domain.local the other differences are below, we upgraded from 1.9 to 2.2 though: our distinguished name is set as [email protected] The user attribute does remain with the capitals though, but when i hit save it went lower case, then after i logged in again to check it worked, it was back to the original format (odd I know). Edit: if your Moodle is externally hosted, remember the firewall ports for LDAP over SSL etc need sorting.

So it appears the whole software is slow. I shall raise a ticket about it, the more people who raise the problem, the more likely it is to be solved.

We use smoothwall to, though I am inclined to think it isn't the problem. Have you tried it from home by any chance, so then we could rule out Smoothwall?

We never reported the problem because that was "normal" to us. What filtering are you using by the way? I don't think it would effect it but it is good to check these things.

We have bought MLS recently and honestly, if the person who ordered it saw the system how it is today, then I would wonder why they ordered it. Ever since we have owned it (about 2 months) I would say it was awfully slow, considering the cost of the system I would have expected a much better solution. The main page seems to take a while to open, it gets to 100% then sits there for about 5 seconds, the menus move like they are in a timewarp and the search takes a few seconds to open every time.

Hi Alis We have GPP doing our IE settings, and I know about the red/ green underlined thing. The issue is one that seems to be with all GPPs as oppose to GPOs, they just aren't guaranteed to work, they seem to work 99% of the time, which is annoying. As for do you need to setup a GPP for each IE version, I think the answer is yes (we have), as all IE versions have slightly different preferences to choose, the difference between 9 and 10 is quite a a lot, not so noticeable with 8 and 9.

It depends entirely on how much you want to control them, it is more limited to blocking them or unblocking them. You have the standard guest portals and user codes for access for periods of time etc. Guests can be isolated so that they can't access anything except the internet etc. But the traffic control is all by VLAN, as for VLANs need constant attention, since when, sounds like someone is hyping up a product that stops the need for VLANs using some rules on the controller, since all traffic is routed there. Personally I prefer none school owned devices entirely separate from our network though, on its own VLAN. Future proofing is always an issue, it is difficult to answer that. If in 5 years time there is a sudden increase in demand on the wireless, then unify would need replacing probably, but then if it cost you 5k now, then is that a massive problem? in 5 years time, there will likely be new wireless protocols, running at faster speeds, that none of today's access points can support. Your choice may well be you spend 5-10k every 5 years on a new wireless with decent technology (unify) but not the best, or you spend 50k every 10 years on the best now. The best now, will probably be better for the next 5 years, then it would become on par for the next couple and then probably worse for the final three. It also costs you 30k more over 10 years. Its a budget and technology balancing act.

This might be a real long shot, but it has happen to me. We has some Lenovos (in a language lab) that had the headphone jack and USB sockets next to each other, and they kept not turning on. If a student accidentally put the jack in the USB socket, even just touching the end, the computer would turn off (if on) and refuse to boot for a random amount of time, there was no consistent fix.
