I have tried today, never even seen the website before. We use Smoothwall, the site works fine through Firefox and Chrome, but not IE.

We have a lot of Netgear Prosafe (all edge switches) here, mainly due to budget restraints and we haven't had any problems with them, they have been in 3 years. Get the best that you can afford, put in for HP if you prefer, if the school says we can't afford that then get the Netgear instead. We use Netgear and D-Link (core) here due to the costs, and haven't had any issues yet. Everyone has preferred manufacturers and everyone has different budgets, different students etc. Make the choice that benefits the school more, if your school is in dire need of new switches but also has very little money, then you need to way up the benefits of the better switch to the school as a whole, or whether money saved is better for the school.

Yep Himji that's GPP for you, I have spent hours trying to solve a GPP issue before, having the computer in a clean environment etc and it simply won't work 100% of the time, even Group Policy refreshes stop GPP from working. Technet is full of people who have the same problems, and this forum has a lot of people who went from printer scripts to GPP and then back again.

Ours are off the domain, we have thinkiosk on them, this auto logs the computer in, and replaces the explorer shell so the user is presented with a login box only. You can use any old computers remember, doesn't have to be WES7 clients, and indeed Linux ones are fine to. IGEL equipment seemed good when we saw it but it isn't the cheapest, the management software is good to as glennda said. Biggest issue I had with IGEL was with how pushy the sales bloke was. ThinKiosk (which is free) has some GPOs that go with it.

I would advise you revert back, then you can use IEM while you configure IE10 to use GPP. As oppose to trying to fix IE10 on the fly, once you have IE9 working with GPP then you can move to IE10 seamlessly. Why wouldn't you take that approach?

We have Windows 7 embedded thin clients, because we wanted to utilise RDP 8. So we have 10zig WES7 clients for our pooled desktops. They weren't as cheap as the linux alternatives though, but ours are in our SLT offices. If I was using thme with pupils I would have got cheaper linux ones. We use Remote desktop session host with our students.

Can you edit that RDP file easily? I can give you my basic settings from a virtual pooled (personal though)

to have IE10 listed you need a W* computer with RSAT on or a Server 2012. Or you could hack the XML

We have done it with a 2012 Server, we have done this to staff only. But I would avoid IE10 to be honest, GPP IE settings is similar to GPP Printers, it will work 99% of the time, but not always.

In terms of pooled VMs, the different is in the RDP file itself, you can easily take the RDP file that RDWeb Access creates by going either through the IIS settings on the physical server or by opening up RDWeb Access in Firefox, then when you click on the RDP file it will ask you if you want to download it, then you have a copy of the file you can deploy to the clients. You can create the file yourself but it is easier to take this pre-made one then edit it as appropriate. With regards to physical hardware, there are multiple choices and different ones offer different options. There are vendors like Axel, HP, Igel, 10zig, Dell Wyse etc, apologies to any I have missed out. Most of these are customizable and will mean you can make them turn on (login locally if necessary) and then launch the RDP file. Then a user would be faced by a box asking for credentials, most clients would also let you make the RDP relaunch when closed etc. I would setup your pool, then use some old hardware to create a test "thin client", you can use software like ThinKiosk.

That is odd, as Windows Server 2008 R2 should be fine managing IE9, though you do need to have put a certain update on it (I can't remember which one). Have you tried using RSAT on a W& client with IE9 installed, you could then change the IE9 policies while you investigate why your Server 2008 R2 doesn't have the policy there.

Has to be Windows 8 or Server 2012 or get the GPP for IE10 i'm afraid. You could remove IE10? That is what we initially did while we sorted our Group Policy out.

We moved from IE maintenance to GPP for Internet Settings. Setup your GPP to point to the correct proxy etc and any other settings as required. Then use GPO to enforce these settings so they cannot be overridden, if you set a proxy in GPP then use GPO to stopped it being altered then there shouldn't be an issue. If you are trying to use GPP to override IE maintenance policies then that is unlikely to work. To configure IE10 though, you need to have a Server 2012 server or a Windows 8 computer with RSAT. We have moved our staff over to GPP and GPOs for all the Internet settings, so it does work.

Use GPP and then use Group Policy to stop them being changed. Your real issue is that GPP have a habit of not quite always applying, just like GPP Printers.

Its chaos, and the traffic hasn't been improved either. No one having right of way means no one has no idea what to do and just pulls out randomly.

Any thin client that supports RDP 7.0 or above should be fine for what you need.

have you checked the jack hasnt got full of lint, I have seen this before where unless you are physically pushing it in, then it won't work.

its numeric order on the first digit, so if you used 07 etc that would be an easy and quick fix.

LSAP over SSL is secure though, so should be allowed. Neither use the normal ports though, so you would almost definitely need to ask.

You could use LDAP over SSL, not sure if you would still need to open a port up for that though, as it defends how your firewall is configured.

I only checked on the 3rd picture I saw, because the 3rd and 4th were the same even though I moved my mouse a little bit.

I found myself checking if it moves your cursor a little to match a pointer photo and it does, only by pixels but still.

I walked everywhere in the day, then used the Metro to get back to the hotel. Watch for pickpockets and you will be harassed by "beggars" who are small children, asking for money to give to their "mothers". Ignore them, if they are persistent then speak French at them, they soon go away as they aren't targeting french people only tourists. I enjoyed the sites of Paris, but the problem with beggars, and groups targeting tourists was beyond belief, we had some african gentlemen try to force sell us some wool bracelet for 10 euros and he got really annoyed when I told him "No", started getting a little aggressive.
