LMFAO I love it when people think they can create a better MIS than the school have. I have to admit that as a Capita customer I have many issue with the way the software works, however does it work and allow us to do what we need to do? yes I have looked at the others in the market and they all promise the world but in my experience are contrained by the same problems. A small company may be able to write something new but will they be any better at dealing with the DCFS than any of the others? I doubt it.

I haven't tested this on more that 10 but I don't think that there is a number limit on the connect.ini. HOwever I am not sure that it will really work in a terminal solution as it will write back the current database as it is used and muliple use will result in exsessive access to the connect.ini.

try running the pulsar.exe. This will start SIMS .net without calling for a check on any upgrades. If you use SIMSLoad it will check the versions and download any changes

Capita's anti-competitive practises Strange how everyone seems to be looking at Capita all the time. Lets not forget that Bromcom used to hold the "rights" to attendance recording using wireless and made everyone use their option or else.

if you don't ask you don't get. We certainly allow this in for tech staff in any of our schools but require the schools to agree and only allow access to specific devices from specific devices

when we set this up for our schools we need to allow an access list between the schools, which is banned by default to avoid complications

who control the internet access at the site where you can't get access. Sounds like a firewall issue.

You may stuggle with the VAT as most manufacturers are only building to order. I have just done this and it is worth going to a dealer that is exlusive to a manufacturer, as they may be able to move a car froma another dealer. I got a SEAT ibiza 1.2, cheaper running costs and vastly cheaper insurance, generally it has been OK although there have been a couple of niggling issues with the stereo and the door leaked due to a part not being fitted in the factory Can't help on the insurance

these don't always work as well as you want. I had one at home and hoped that the power to the TV and Cable box could be cut when I turned them off by remote. The power drawn by the tv caused the system to spike and this may happen with a monitor as well. What I now use are remote controlled plugs which I can turn off from a central point

Not always the case as often when we find a problem we will be advised to apply the update as that may fix the problem!!

hey Phil I know that you all work hard to continue to deliver a service and we generally do appriciate all you do... It just seems so disheartening that the move to seasonal releases to try to make it easier for us to deliver releases to schools without seeming to be months late has mean that we are again in the position that we tell schools that we are delivering the autumn 2009 update in 2010!!

Equally it is worth noting that even once a product is finally released then we all test it again and often find problems are still present leading to the patchwork quilt that follows a release

So do you get any form of benefit for this work that you do? I would guess that if the licence cost was lower for being in the UAT process then it may have certain benefits. Given that I have 70 databases to support I really do not have a great deal of time to spend looking at the UAT process. We instead expect that the cost of the SLA allows for capita to deliver the product that we require, and also expect that the timescales for that delivery be met. Lets be honest some products (SM7) have consistantly been removed from the process meaning that some of the ways that the product works are still akin the the common platform days.

I agree with the approch taken by Capita to delay a release when a problem is discovered. This main issue I have is with the number of times that this is happening!!! I can't remember the last time that Capita actually released a product on time. The worry I have is with the clear difference in the testing done prior to the UAT. Are their own internal processes actually that basic? I often undertake Beta testing on products so am not simply complaining for the sake of it

SIMS 2009 Autumn Update Release - Change of Date An issue has been discovered in our final release candidate for the SIMS 2009 Autumn Update release.
