Hi guys, Strange problem, every DHCP server I add to the snap-in (even using it's FQDN), appear as IP's. Bit annoying as we have quite a lot of them! I'm running Win 10 now, wasn't a problem with Win 7. Any ideas? Thanks.

Big Game. One of the worst films I have ever seen. I did laugh a few times though, because it was so bad.

Been in contact with Dell. If anyone's interested, it's getting the motherboard replaced. Seems the VGA board is knackered. I saw the same strange behaviour occur at the BIOS screen and while an external monitor was connected (both laptop and monitor went haywire). They told me it's a rare issue.

Just updated the BIOS to latest. Bitlocker kicked in and as I was typing the recovery key, screen went black and power light started flickering. Came back to itself after a couple of seconds but repeated the same behavior shortly after. Did this about 5 or six times before settling down. Now back into Win7, and it's behaving so far.

I read about the magnetic switch causing problems with bracelets, but it's not that (unless it's faulty). It's not manually entering sleep either, when it went funny I wasn't even touching it. Battery is charged, BIOS says it's health is excellent, and power scheme is set to always stay on.

Hi folks, I have been given a Dell Latitude E5450 to look at. User was complaining that it would suddenly switch off. I had it on for a few hours, ticking over without a problem when suddenly, screen goes black, then it comes back on to the lock screen, then black again, then lock screen etc. until eventually it goes black and stays black. Power light pulses indicating it's gone to sleep. I wake it up, and it sometimes goes back to sleep straight away or after a little while. Now it's been "awake" for a couple of hours straight. Power options are set to never sleep while plugged-in (which it is). Dell diagnostics reports it's A-Ok. Strange thing is, the same user had this issue with a previous laptop... Doesn't appear to be any logical reason for the sleep shenanigans!

Strange issue... Whenever printer was connected to the JetDirect, phantom jobs would appear and disappear on the panel, and wiping HDD didn't fix it. Connect directly via USB to PC and it was fine. Anyway, had to resort to a PC print server in the end. Everybody's happy now they don't have to spend a couple of grand on a new one!

No bent pins. Thanks for the link. Going to try a few diagnostics test and probably wipe the HDD. Hopefully we'll be able to get it going again...

It's out-of-warranty and very unlikely anyone will pay to get an engineer out or buy a replacement... So, we've got to come up with a workaround... The ethernet port doesn't work on the formatter board, which looks like this: (image grabbed from ebay), but it appears the USB port is ok. We tried connecting a JetDirect en3700 to the USB port, but for some unknown reason there are a huge amount of jobs stuck in the printer and there appears to be no way to clear them all in one go, other than through the Embedded Web Server or some defunct software no longer available from HP (Easy Printer Care). A factory reset didn't work either. There are numerous jumper switches and even a microswitch cleverly name "SW1" on the formatter board and I can't find any information about the board itself on the internets. Has anyone here got any juicy knowledge about this beast of a plotter or the board? Thanks.

Think I'll wait a bit before getting one for myself then! Sister went and bought a Kindle anyway - she typically leaves things last-minute. Shops were out of stock, and she didn't have time to wait for delivery. She wasn't leaving in 5 weeks, more like 5 days!

Hello folks, My sister (who's not very tech savvy), will be going to San Diego in 5 weeks for a fortnight. She fancies taking a tablet and is also looking for a new phone. I've advised her already to get a Nexus 7 and a decent android smartphone. I've never been to the USA, and don't really know anyone who's been with a tablet. She'd like to stay connected while she's out and about - says she'll be doing some travelling while she's there - and keep herself entertained with movies, books & music. I thought an N7 combined with an Android phone would be the perfect combo - she could tether the N7 to the phone. I also thought buying a PAYG SIM out in America would be a good idea too, and cheaper. Was this good advice, or does anyone know better? Thanks!

Currently reading Peter F Hamilton's "Great North Road" - a big read! Before that I enjoyed Iain M. Banks "Hydrogen Sonata". The Gap series by, Stephen R. Donaldson.
